***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

I got it the next day... i was initially a bit annoyed especially after bothering to phone to reserve a black but am happy now as i think i prefer it :)
It is very pearly white, not Wii/iPod white in the slightest. Much more classy.

You lucky *******! :p

How are you finding the eeeXubuntu? Does all the hardware work ok?

I'm waiting for the release of the next 8G version before I splash out.

I want to use the EEE PC for reading Ebooks at work. I know that the PC comes with PDF reader pre-installed, but was wondering what the screen is like to read from.

I Stopped in and saw one in the flesh today for the first time and wasnt prepared for quite how small it is! I mean i was expecting small but it realy is tiny and the screen is even smaller. However I had a play with it and the screen seemed very good everything was readable even smaller text so I think it would be fine for ebooks. It just might mean a lot of scrolling with the limited resolution.

I just told the wife and she wants one for her handbag  so i think its only a matter of time before we get one lol :D

Cheers,

i dont own one of these but i can say that having used one for a few hours pdf reading is good, as thats all i used it for in the breif time i borrowed it

I dont know whether I shoud wait or not tbh...

I have found a place to get the EEE PC with 4GB SSD with 2GB ram..for about £280. Does the extra ram improve the performance or will 1GB suffice.

What are you guys using for hdd space. I'm thinking of getting a decent MP3 player that can also be used as a mobile HDD...or does the EEE PC run better with Flash memory... just trying to weigh up the best solution for watching films, reading Ebooks, etc...

You guys who have got your EEE's have to liven this thread up and tell your specs and show us your set up's!!!

im getting in the new year, just coz i am sure its going to become the most modded lappy in history:D

scotfree far as i am aware better to use flash than usb storage as its a little bit faster

I bought one a few weeks ago, played with it for a while then RMA'd it because of a dead pixel.

I think they are nice little units but i still think the screen is too small, they could have got away with making it a little bigger and people would have still bought it.

Seeing as they wont be back in stock till the new year I think I'll just cancel my order and get the 8g one when OCUK get them in stock. :)
I can't wait to get one of these things.

Hi,

Just got my 4g black from the Retail park locally for £199 :) XMAS Bargaintastic! Amazing little device and amazing screen. i was going to put XP on it but loving the Linux so far so dont think i will bother :D

Cheers,

How does this thing cope with being put to sleep? With my Mac I can close the lid and when I re-open it it will come back on instantly and can stay asleep for a couple of days. With most Windows laptops they tend to go a bit nuts when you do that.

ive only used sleep mode for about a week straight now o.o

When are these likely to come back in stock? Am i likely to get a good deal in January sales :p

Well they said to me that they wont be back in stock untill next year, so I cancelled my order. I'm guessing that once the 8GB version comes out that the 4GB versions will be down to £200?

Eee! My girlfriend went and picked one up for from the jumbo retail park. The keyboard is a little fiddly but I'm having a fun time playing with it. I've got it setup in advanced mode, is there a decent repo for eee safe apps?

Nah I think they will still be £220 its just the 8G will be £300

Pic's wallpapers screenshots of set ups is what we need at the moment. Please post yours!!

Heres mine.....1gig of ram running an nlited version of xp:D

This really is a versatile little machine. It fullfills its job as a travel device perfectly and is used for streaming foreign audio/tv in those places where a larger device just isnt so practical.
