Ouch, more than I though. My system runs 400FSB fine at Auto settings, ran at 414 for a while but backed off to 400 due to wanting to use my system rather than stability testing. Looks like 428 (for 3GHz) is going to take some extra volts, managed to use clockgen up to 441 before a freeze so it's got to be possible :) (he hopes)

Yeah but TBH 2.8ghz is not really stretching that cpu.
I am on water and temps are around 29c idle 50-55c full load depending on ambient temps.

NB temps are fine too.

So no worries there :D

3.6ghz needs less volts obviously

Couldn't agree more, this has 3.2+ in it but I simply can't take the FSB that high with this board - originally had a E6600 otherwise I would have got a DS3. In reality I can't get this chip higher than 3GHz for 24/7 usage without frying my board.

What happened to the E6600?

Felt I went OTT, originally thought I'd upgrade my Venice to an X2. Then thought Core Duo will cost me a bit more but I could do with going 2Gb of RAM, should have gone for a 6300/6400 originally but got swayed into a 6600 for the extra cache. Bottom line, I spent too much and could recoop £100 by downgrading and getting comparable performance. This 6300 is plenty fast enough :D

I see! :p

To be fair, only a few chips can do that, a lot of people were misled by the ES results. +0.2v for 24/7 usage is quite high, and I imagine it'd get quite hot too.

I wouldn't suggest using that voltage on air. Before I got water I was getting 70c with a zalman 9500.Although on silent settings and it was the height of summer.

However with nice cooling 1.5v is fine 24/7

Many retails E6600's are getting 3.6ghz with a bump in vcore.
Just like may 6300's are reaching 3.2 ghz -3.4ghz with mobo's that can handle high FSB like the DS3.

If temps are fine the 1.5v is not that big a deal IMO.

Week 27 E6600 are doing well, I've seen quite a few 3.6GHz+ on air with less volts than mine, yet to see many week 28's. They seem to be getting better week by week, the early ones not so good. Don't know if its a solid trend or the 27's are a cherry week.

Have you been any higher than 3.6ghz?

lo your holding onto that faulty board too tight, just imagine you go for a refund and just get offered a replacement only :p .

Im bored with the p5b deluxe, i need something new but that stupid molex connector at the bottom on the abit & the weird all in one heatsink arrangement is pants, bah :o

Buy the ABIT please and let me know how you get on with it.
