***The Official Forza Motorsport 3 Thread***

It also seems the 'chrome' might actually be correct too, it seems you can get the DBS with/without chrome, so when you choose the colour of the car, the de-chromed one may be in there somewhere!

Coolio, ive not exactly read up on it just seen the images for it so wouldnt of known its been said. Ill still end up buying it though fil lthe gap untill GT5 arrives.

If rumours are to be believed, you might only be playing it for a couple of weeks or so then, I wouldn't bother!..

If you gel more towards GT, you may be in luck, more and more people are jumping on the 'before' XMas rumour..

It'll be a pain for me, I want both, but FM3 for the real racing/community events, GT for just doing SP and more car porn.. :)

Each to their own!

Oh bugger, I really wish I hadnt wandered into this thread,I so want a fanatec wheel now:(

Are there many stand type things available? I do have the MS wheel already, so i might just make do with a stand.

Even worse for me..

The master plan is to get another PS3 (sold my last late last year!) for GT5 as well as FM3, as I love all driving games, however, cost of Fanatec wheel = cost of PS3 (just about).. and I can't afford both!..

Decisions, Decisions...

I had it confirmed to me the other day that X360 will require a patch/update to help support the Turbo S & Clubsport features which FM3 will support.
Its going to be pretty special and wheels at E3 were not complete with the full features. Cant say anymore for now but the game with this wheel/pedal combination will be a big step up over the traditional wheel not only in quality but the features from the game.

I still cant understand why so few here are interested in it as really the official wheel is below par in build, FFB strength and a bit too toyish.

Who here has ordered?
Who is considering?
Who has a standard wheel and happy enough with that?

Are most of you guys really just pad players?

I'd love one, but it's a case of the cost..

Basically £305 for Turbo S with basic pedals/shifters/dongle..

With the exchange rate hitting us badly it's just a bit too much...

It is looking like it is 'the' wheel to get, what we really need is a £150 'g25' quality 360 wheel for the inbetween quality/price point and I'd splash the cash..

Firstly
Hows it only for FM3, if anything its for all racing games and the best Console/PC platforms. If your a multiplatform owner then its even better value. I personally bought some games on PS3 because I could play with the G25 rather than the benifits of Live and using the X360 wheel. This wheel ends that, no longer do i need to sacrafice.

If your already a X360 wheel owner you CAN get a PURE edition and use your X360pedals, if you want PS3 support or better pedals buy them later. This helps reduce the costs a lot. You do have to warrent the sheer quality of the product and its features to its price.

Im asking these questions for the comparison im doing as id like genuine feedback on how much of a problem the price is to must guys here. Judging by sales not much in general but perhaps OcUK has more casual FM fans? Still good to get anyones views.

No need for it to derail the thread, even if its within the topic of the game.

I don't think it's derailing the thread, it's a good question.

I think the bottom line is, we all know how awesome value for money it is considering the quality and it can be used cross platform, but it's still a lot of actual money..

Quite a few of the fastest guys in the world still use a pad, I don't think not having the most expensive wheel you can buy makes you casual.. it depends what you are after..

That cant be right you sure?
True yes their is at least one tuned version in FM3...
SHIFT does however feature this car both the 2007 and new 2009 V-Spec edition and videos have shown damage and full on rolling for this game.

I would imagine its possibly to do with the strong relationship Nissan has with Polphony Digital and a bit of competition snubbing possibly going on, who knows. Only last week GT PSP was announced to have the latest version of the GTR-V Spec also.

If its not in FM3 I will miss it for sure as its one of my fave drives in GT5P

In NFS:Shift all their cars seem to be done out in race livery (I can't find a shot of a standard road car), thus it's conceivable they are licenced as race cars, which is a different set of rules iirc and possibly why they've managed to get the level of damage etc..

I'm sure if the standard GT-R doesn't make it, it will be as you say, because of commercial reasons, whether that be exclusivity or tie in with Sony (and why not, PD have some relationship with the GT-R afterall)..

I can understand you believing Che or doubting my post.
Best way to reply I guess:
Also I believe their are videos of the GTR without race decals.
Shift allows custom paint like Forza 2 but will also include personalisation for inside the car as well.

I don't think Che has said anything really, it twas the Tofu R guy that just really said they couldn't get the licence, but didn't really know why, hypothesising that if other games had it, then it must be political/commercial, but yep, that looks for sure EA have the production version! Nice.. :)

Oh, did you also hear Thomas from Fanatec has confirmed that the Vibrating brake pedal on the clubsport pedals will be supported by the 360 in FM3!!

Just yet more pretty decent looking Photo's.. (Click for large)

And please someone, make me a Castrol livery for this..

It’s a fine week for more automotive goodness in the form of a Pitpass Report here at Forzamotorsport.net. So to recap, let’s see where we’ve gone so far in our bi-weekly reveals of Forza Motorsport 3 as we speed down the road towards our first launch day in Japan on 10/22/09.
Turn 10 has shown you a handful of our new high-end cars via E3 2009; traveled to Le Mans, France, to unveil the Le Sarthe and Bugatti circuits of the legendary Le Mans track; gave you a glimpse into the world of Japanese tech, then Euro sport compacts on tracks like the new Catalunya and fan-favorite Nurburgring Nordschleife. American muscle was next on the gorgeous new Sedona Autopark Raceway. In-between all of these car and track reveals was info about single-player career mode, drag racing, and more in our Pitpass Report Podcast.
And now, we bring the car enthusiasts in our community another little gift in the form of JDM Icons. The seven cars we’re revealing this week represent both the past and future of Japanese motorsport. From classics such as the Datsun 510 to the first-gen Miata roadster, through more modern track beasts like the Nismo R390 and the Acura ARX-02a LMP car, we here at Turn 10 tip our hats to our fellow petroheads across the Pacific.
Forzamotorsport.net will continue to reveal new cars in this series of Pitpass Reports to check back often for new updates. Enjoy!

Forza Motorsport 3: JDM Icons

1970 Nissan/Datsun 510
Produced from 1968 to 1973 the boxy Datsun 510 created a strong cult following fueled by its performance on the track. Powered by a 96-horsepower L16 four-cylinder backed by a four-speed manual gearbox, the 510’s strength was its unibody construction and independent rear suspension. Under the Brock Racing Enterprises Banner, driver John Morton won back-to-back Trans Am 2.5 series championships in his patriotic red, white and blue #46 in 1971 and 1972. Still highly desirable today, it shouldn’t take much to transform a Dime into a serious contender. 96- horsepower has never been more fun.
1984 Celica Supra
Feeling old school? The ’84 Celica Supra, a MKII edition in the Supra’s lineage, sports a 2.8-liter 5M-GE rated at 160 horsepower in ’84. The inline six-cylinder engine is stout and able to handle all types of mods but the car has no discernable racing pedigree so you will have to step up to the plate and create one from scratch. Remember overcoming the challenge will only make you stronger.
1994 Mazda Miata
One of the most raced cars in America, the Miata roadster combines a light chassis, modern suspension and extremely balanced weight distribution to create an agile lightweight spec-monster in Forza 3. The ’94 model features a bigger, 1.8-liter engine than the earlier 1990 to ’93 models. With its affinity for the track there will be many hard-hitting tuning options for the Miata, which packs a much bigger punch than its diminutive size may indicate – especially if you strap on a blower beneath the hood.

1994 Celica GT-Four ST205
Jump a decade down the road and the Celica and Supra have gone their own separate ways. This Celica has plenty of racing heritage to draw upon and may be one of the biggest sleepers in Forza 3. The Celica GT-Four took WRC driver’s titles in ‘92, ‘93 and ’94. The 1994 Celica GT-Four ST205 puts all that experience on the street. It features a turbocharged and intercooled 3S-GTE four cylinder, rated at 225 horsepower, all-wheel drive, lightweight aluminum body parts and the heart of a champion.
2009 Scion xDAnother B-segment buzz bomb, the Scion xD is a powerhouse amongst its peers, generating 128 horses from its 1.8 liters of displacement. But one has to wonder if the car is in a “big fish in a small pond” scenario. Can the little xD compete with more performance-minded machines? The challenge here is maximizing the Scion’s potential in the tuning garage and taking a “drive it like you stole it” approach on the analog stick/wheel.
Acura ARX-02a #66 de Ferran Motorsports
Generate some serious Gs in this American Le Mans Series prototype machine. Assume the role of Acura team drivers Gil de Ferran and Simon Pagenaud and take this LMP1-class Acura to the edge. The car’s open cockpit design, high-revving 4.0-liter, 620+ horsepower LM-AR7 V8 and lightweight chassis and purpose-built suspension make for a visceral driving experience. Whether you roll with the Acura’s black-and-green Patrona livery or dial-up your own color scheme with Forza 3’s new ability to now completely re-paint and makeover any race car, the ARX-02a is a can’t-miss proposition.

1997 #23 Nismo R390
Go the distance behind the controls of a 24 Hours of Le Mans legend. With a 641-horsepower, twin-turbo 3.5-liter V8 hovering a touch of the Y button away, Forza drivers will be in awe of this long-tailed endurance racer. This car finished 12th overall and fifth in class at the Circuit de la Sarthe. Can you drive the R390 and its eye-catching red-and-black livery to the victory it should have had a decade ago? See you on the podium.

The car list so far:

That list is a fraction old I believe, and not as 'official' as you may think (despite being on the FM.NET forums!)

The best place to go is..
http://www.forzacentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31595

This shows a more 'definitive' (Ba-dum) list of cars revealed so far..

BadNed, the guy who runs the site is clearly an insider or someone who works very closely with T10, he knows the entire list, but does compile the list when 'proof' is given, it usually just takes a vague low-res picture, and he'll take it as good enough, then puts the exact model year/type up..

I am confident to say, this and his track list are pukka.. And he even drops hints everynow and again, or releases some random photo's..

:)

Yeah, they're using the select button for the rewind but im sure FM2 used the D Pad. It's been a while.

I'd love to tune a car properly but I've never bothered, don't know where to start and there is no help out there really.

Also, aren't we due an update today?

I believe we are, the official forums are down, but a podcast/blog is expected, as is Dreams Vol 2 video..

Here's hoping..

Bad link for me, what did it say?

PUMA who are sponsoring FM3 had an article about the new Natasha Ganshang (sp?) being the new face of Forza, and that she was due to race at Donington later in the year, but hadn't been to the circuit before and was practicing it on FM3..

This seemed to indicate Donington was in the game..

However T10 soon jumped on it and said it was a mistake..

There is an outside chance it was a quick attempt to deny/cover it up, as BadNed on Forzacentral did initially go with it, and updated his track list, which he then revoked saying it was a surprise to him.. which is odd, as clearly he has much inside knowledge of T10 and all cars/tracks..

I wouldn't hold my breath however, but it would have been nice.

That was a bit of a Bungle err zippy, lol.

They say 100 tracks so if they have that then well has to be many great ones in their. I wish they would have stated no. of tracks and no. of routes to give us a better idea.

115+ Layouts/Courses is all we've been told...

We've had 19 tracks sort of confirmed with just over 70 'courses' although one or two tracks don't have their layouts mentioned yet. I'd say there are at least 4 or 5 tracks left we don't know about..

Bugatti Veyron is in!

Well it look absolutely nothing like the quality of any video or image released to date, so I think it's safe to assume it's a poor quality image.

Yeah, The Joystiq video is hideously compressed and that still is really poor quality..

Hopefully T10 will release some better images, and perhaps the uncompressed vid!

Oh, and a youtube of the vid if that's easier the Joystiq's stream..

What Im curious about is still the lack of info or details on how this game will continue after FM2 to please racing fans, not just drifter or painters, video editors, kids grannies or grandads with one button play.
This is also going to be a racing game still isnt it?

Im aware of more upgrades, more cars, more tracks, more polys, more texture detail, more races, more variety. Im also aware of cockpit view, rewind, barrell rolls, tyre deformation, physics data from Mclaren and Michelin, hell Im even aware of how great their water physics were modelled.

However.....
We hear on numerous occasions of how "phscyed T10 are" Im not being a pain in the ass here, this was one of my first concerns on this thread and here we are 3 months now after the E3 announcement.
On a positive note we know the game supports clutch now and on the wheel its meant to be full analogue controlled with H shifter support and 900 degrees but this will effect very few users that buy a Fantec Wheel.

Is anyone else insterested in knowing or even the slightest bit curious of how FM3 improves as a racer:
There is a bit of information released on some points..
How is AI improved to be more challenging, we know FM2 was flawed.
Lets face it, all games have flawed AI, FM2 was not the worst by a long shot, but you are right, it needed improving.. The facts so far for improvements are that AI now can make mistakes if pressured (level dependant), the difficulty of the hardest level has been increased. The AI's awareness has also been improved, they should yield much more cleanly this time.

On a technical level how has the physics been upgraded.
I think this is one thing they all keep close to their chests. They mention tyre deformation (obviously), but the actual extents of this are not known, we do keep getting the claims that some aspect of the tyre deformation is not being done even on PC sims (according to the dubious Dan G). The problem is it's easy to claim tyre deformation, but how accurate and advanced this is is anyones guess. Some tidbits we've been told are that it can even allow for the tyre slipping on the wheel.. coupled with what sounds to be a reasonable attempt at tyre deformation bodes well enough, but somehow I doubt it's going to set the world alight, not that it needs to..
Oh, and collision physics has improved, you can 'lean' on other cars more realisitically (very welcome), FM2's collision physics was the same for static barriers and other cars but it generally worked OK, FM3 is reported by users to a nice step in this regard.
If a user has the Turbo S wheel will they gain a speed advantage if they can master the wheel with all aids off.
I think that's easy to assess.. apart from the obvious difference between a wheel (Even the MS Wheel) and a controller are the same for all games, the clutch is mappable to a button (negating the clutch pedal), the only thing I can see is the clubsport vibrating brake pedal with it's load cell design would naturally allow more consistent use of non-abs brakes?
How has Turn 10 implemented that pad, X360 wheel and Turbo S wheel will or will not give an advantage or disadvantage
In what way? as I say, we know the clutch is mappable to a button and it's a digital affair in operation, so what is left?
Do online leaderboards now have the facility to report the control method
A good point, it's been talked about quite a bit, but no news so far, I'd agree it should take this into account, but the proof that some of the top drivers still use a pad seem to keep negating the idea that the wheel is dominant.
Can leaderboards of wall riders, shortcut laps be reported to be removed when verified
Any car contact/drafting/wheels off the course etc are uncertified in the game, the leaderboards automatically put certified times above non-certified times. There should be no instances of this occuring. I know you can report these things to T10 in the event they occur, are you then asking if they have the ability to remove individual times rather then a whole leaderboard clear? I don't know, but it would be handy, wiping leaderboards has happened in so many games lately that you do wonder why they aren't doing something about it.
Does damage now feature improved or different damage/handling
The only thing mentioned is that aero is more prevalent in the damage model, but this seemed to be in FM2, so no idea what that actually translates to, I believe it's going to be largely FM2 which wasn't too bad. Visually, it does seem that the deformation has more 'detail' to it
fm3damage.jpg

Penalty system, ramming how will this be tackled.
Any contact with another car uncertifies your lap. This was mentioned in a recentish interview, and the phrase "You need to drive super clean to get a certified time" was used..
Sector times, are players sector times and lap times displayed after races
A good point, would be nice, no mention though! I liked this in Race Pro, although I would have like more detail then just 3 sectors.
Are best laps after races highlighted to let players compare
Good point, I'll check some vids, but I am unsure.
Does upgrades also change the interiors of the cars
Yes they do, in terms of weight reduction/roll cages at least (that's all that has been said). I doubt boost guages are added when adding turbo's though..
Ghost cars, is their any feature that allows multiple ghost cars to be raced against in TT mode. Ill explain, say the same car but with different tunning this would give a visual performance of how each car setup compares
Would be good, but I don't think it's been mentioned and therefore unlikely.

Airbrakes etc. should really be in there if they've bothered to go as far as having tyre deformation. It's not going to ruin the game, but it would be a nice touch.

I was championing that fact over on the official forums, it's a nice touch to have and adds a nice visual impact IMO.

It was initially quite disappointing in a way for me, but the more work I realise they are putting in, the more I'm happier to accept that deadlines where the reason it had to be cut.

Nicely, the leaked Tofu-R information at least shows, it's in the list of features they wanted, along with weather/nighttime etc etc..

On the plus side, at least it should be more possible in FM4 since the graphics engine is pretty much good enough now, just some minor tweaks for the next version are required, the rest should be content/features etc.

hmm Just seen the latest video on pex. am not sure if I like the sound of the new carrer mode. Also is that rewind feature usable in all single player races? It's a lovely feature but that just seems like cheating

The career mode has 2 ways of using it.

1. You have a calendar style system, each race you do determines the next 3 events given to you on your calendar, so it dynamically changes the choices based on several factors.. Trying to keep you in racing how you like.. This sounds a bit better
or
2. As seen in the vids you can just bypass the calendar and see all events, which are unlocked depending on various things.

The rewind is available all the time, and yes it could be used to just go for an easy life, if you are that lazy of course, you can just hire an AI driver and not even do the races at all.. Or set the AI to super-easy, etc..

The problem with all these racing games is that to keep it accessible you can always dumb them down to make it super easy, you have to self moderate if you want the ultimate challenge, this is just an evolutionary step in making it more fun, certainly not revolutionary, which is OK I guess.
