That resonates with me as well and I'm in my 40s - it isn't just the youngsters.
I've spent a lot of time recently working out how I can afford to retire early or go part-time. Feels like pretty much everyone is fed up with the rat race now and I know some of my older colleagues at work feel the same.
So yeah, I do understand why someone would take what they see as an easy option.
Most people in my office are looking at retiring at 50-55. Even though they'll get less.
There are no real careers anymore. People work for years at a place and get treated like dirt. So why would they want to keep working. I've even seen jobs being advertised for 55-60k+ and they can't find people, because they want a full week in the office. Many people just don't want to do that anymore.
