The rise of OnlyFans

That resonates with me as well and I'm in my 40s - it isn't just the youngsters.

I've spent a lot of time recently working out how I can afford to retire early or go part-time. Feels like pretty much everyone is fed up with the rat race now and I know some of my older colleagues at work feel the same.

So yeah, I do understand why someone would take what they see as an easy option.

Most people in my office are looking at retiring at 50-55. Even though they'll get less.

There are no real careers anymore. People work for years at a place and get treated like dirt. So why would they want to keep working. I've even seen jobs being advertised for 55-60k+ and they can't find people, because they want a full week in the office. Many people just don't want to do that anymore.

Big issue for the government.
How do you keep people working.. When working sucks.

You have the rich important people (not ceos, surgeons etc) who don't need to work long to retire and are lost from the system.

You could raise pension age, but then people won't contribute to pensions. Very dangerous to move those goal posts.

You could raise the tax thresholds to make work pay.. But then.. Will people just build assets and retire.

Tax people more to force people to need to work longer.. But then, again.. What's the point of trying to progress.

Hard Balance to find.

If you sell your body for money you're a whore.
Fashion models, nude art models, building labourers, sports players... that's quite a lot of people.

My thoughts also, I get why women do it but I just don't get why men pay for it, it's not as though you can't find any of this type of material for free on the Internet
They don't want a type of content, they want those specific people. Intimacy breeds familiarity and thus a connection to individuals. Look how popular the whole Fappening stuff was - You can also find that exact content type easily, but specific celebs are a different matter.
There are several YouTubers I follow who do simple outdoor/bushcrafting content, but also advertise their Patreon accounts with 'private' or '18+' content. Some are from Central & Eastern European areas, where a lot of webcam farms are, so they do their own Patreons to make the same kind of money while avoiding that part of the industry. For some, that's pretty much their only prospect.

On the topic of paying for it. I know there's enough free content out there now, but pre-internet paying for jazz mags was fine. It's basically similar, but digital and movies now and a lot more selection.

Also lots of people in here saying they're fine with it. Any of you have daughters? What if they said they want to do OF when they're old enough, how would you feel ?

There was a thing popped up in my social media the other day about somebody that paid (I think) £20k to give his favourite (!) Only Fans “model” a hug irl.

She was then posting about the great holiday she had with her boyfriend with the money

It’s a sad reflection of modern society.

See, I have absolutely zero sympathy for anyone who would be as colossally as stupid as that. 20 grand to give someone a hug... Even if he got the full shellacking for a quarter of that I'd still consider them an absolute moron.

If you're paying for anything then surely you realise it's nothing more than a business engagement/contract.

The state of some people

Nobody wants to work a proper job anymore, they just want a quick easy buck. So you get influencers and only fans cam girls. Just a symptom of today's self obsessed, narcissistic and self entitled lazy society.

Be aware of them being vulnerable though.
Like an addiction. They could be lonely, mentally compromised but wealthy.
Being manipulated into paying for it. But they haven't really got the money.

Don't be too quick to judge.

Can you blame people?
Before you could work and get a final salary pension, work up the ladder in one place. Raise a family and retire with a decent state pension.

Now.. You can't. Not in an average job.

Can you blame people? Not really.

Some of these girls are making more money spending 30 minutes porking themselves with a hair brush than they would working 9-5 all month

So, you kind of understand why they do it.

From a societal point of view it's extremely sad.
Only a tiny fraction of creators actually earn decent money though it seems.

Supposedly for 2024:
- 300+ creators earn $1M+ per year
- 16,000+ creators earn $50,000+ per year.
- The median account makes $180/mo.
- That means ~$140/mo after taxes
- Top 1% of the creators earn 33% of the income
- Top 10% of the creators earn 73% of the income
- The average OnlyFans subscription is $7.20.
- Out of that $5.76 is kept by the creator and $1.44 is kept by the platform
- The average OnlyFans account has 21 fans

Slightly older stats from this data: https://www.businessinsider.com/onlyfans-monica-huldt-describes-how-makes-money-2020-3
  • The top 10% OnlyFans content creators make over $1000 a month.
  • The top 1% makes more than $6000 every month.
  • The top 0.1% make over $100,000 a month

I guess you can't blame people if the option is there, some will take it.

Personally I'd never lower myself to that sort of thing.

Not that anyone would pay to watch me sticking a hairbrush where the sun doesn't shine :p

My ex had (has?) a friend who used to be a bit of a dominatrix, she would earn money for simply verbally abusing men (at their request) on Twitter, and would do meets where they would just withdraw money for her.

I only heard it through my ex, so I always took everything with a pinch of salt as her friend could have been embellishing her stories, but supposedly she was mortgage free in her 30s and was lavished with gifts such as Louboutin shoes.

I always told my ex that she was basically taking advantage of vulnerable men.

I dated a dominatrix for a short while, she made a fortune.

Hot AF too. Was in my youth though, and I wouldn't entertain that for settling down.

She'll have her own Disney show next :p

Degeneracy has become normalised now, to the point the shame of being identified is no longer a disincentive.

If anything it's more likely free advertising and bragging rights for them not having to work a typical job.

Local communities less of a thing these days, so people make money whichever way is easiest and can be relatively anonymous.

I can't say I understand why so much money is funnelled into OF, similar to microtransactions in games it's probably tapping into the reptilian brains of the consumers.

In the future I expect some very strange reasons for people spending money as the world becomes more digitalised.

Yep. I mean, it makes sense when the average person is priced out of everything. The rich and greedy have taken too much.

Onlyclunge is an odd phenomenon. As others have pointed out there is better quality and more interested porn to be had for free on the internet. I think one of the 'hooks' with OF is that a lot of the girls on there have thirst trap accounts on Instagram that draw folks in and people then are curious about that specific girl and want to see her nudes - some of the girls from Love Island (a thirst trap in it's own right) do this for example.

Often the OF account is free to subscribe to, giving a taster of more content that is hidden behind a more expensive subscription - or offers to pay for specific individual content of interest.

I think, honestly, it's a contemporary phenomenon that offers the illusion of access to famous/hot women (they will often respond to DMs for VIP subscribers for example) but in reality, just like venues like Spearmint Rhino's, it's designed to drain men of money with no real contact. It's modern day, digital striptease.

My wife and I were actually talking about this the other day, one of the local mums she knows does OF and apparently makes a living out of it. Wifey also follows in instagram some woman called Rebecca Godwin (god knows why) who happens to have an OF that is quite successful too.

The pokimane incident comes to mind.

Bear with me on this but:

An OF account where the numpties from the Graphics Card forum separate into two equally dreadful teams, get naked, and then hurl insults at each other until someone either cries or furiously wets themselves out of the sheer injustice of their favoured team being misrepresented.

I would unironically subscribe to that channel.
