What film did you watch last night?

gravity - 8.8/10
i'd personally have had her eaten by pirhanas at the end but there you go
It did seem a very strange ending insofar as from the look of where she landed she might be lucky to ever find civilisation again... Though one presumes there would be some kind of beacon for them to come find her.

Only God Forgives

Watched this today. I enjoyed it but it's not a film I'll probably watch again in a hurry. Some weird direction going on. At times I thought I was Twin Peaks lol, but the graphic violent scenes made up for that. A decent film but not great.

White House Down
Biggest pile of steaming poo I've seen in a long time. From start to finish, it was poor; the story, the acting and the CGI. At least Olympus Has Fallen was entertaining. 2/10

Cloud Atlas 7/10

Sky Movies HD really is rubbish though. The quality is awful. I watched it on Blu Ray last month and it was visually stunning, on SM HD everything to do with the picture is just karp.

Gravity 2/10 - the visuals are good but that's it.

Visually good but that's where any semblance of a sensible and worthwhile watch ends.

Battleship had more to commend it on the acting stakes and the same people in charge of that navy seemingly wrote the script for this and decided that Bullock would be an ideal candidate to put into space.

Through a series of miraculous events she not only manages to alter a few of Newton's laws, find a space suit with an inexhaustible air supply and gain full working knowledge of the mind boggling intricacies of three different space stations on the fly, but also wrestle herself free from being a suicidally bereaved mum and find the strength and the luck of the gods to make a perfect splash-down landing in a Chinese space capsule not 10 yards from a beautiful sandy beach.

I've seen some American feel good and happy ending tripe in my time but this one not only takes the biscuit, but the factory and the whole production facility with it.

And there was I thinking this might be another "Moon" :(

Cloud Atlas 7/10

It just happened to be on so I thought I'd watch a bit of it and I got quite engrossed in it. A little confusing but I enjoyed it. Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugo Weaving so a decent cast :)

Ha, I really enjoyed it!

As for Superman, biggest drivvel ever. Was in the cinema with my mate, who just burst out laughing after about 20 minutes. May re-watch it, but it's doubtful.

Cloud Atlas....just wow! Epic....excellent film/parable. Very engaging, atmospheric tale that im sure will only get better upon multiple viewings... good performances from all the cast.. esp Hugo Weaving . 9/10

Oblivion (got it on bluray but watched at cinema while back) i would put at at a respectable 7/10

Robot And Frank - 8/10

Thoroughly enjoyed it, the bit with the "self destruct sequence" was especially good.

Agree completely, watched it on the plane last week and it was pure garbage. Dozens of highly-trained and experienced Secret Service and tactical agents cut down by a small, seemingly amateurish group of terrorists. The whole plot was nonsense and none of the actors felt like they were in the correct role for them.

That reminds me, also watched some other movies on planes last week. Kick Ass 2 - 5/10 I guess, not nearly as good as the first one. Rather bizarre that he spent nearly the entire first film pining over Lyndsy Fonseca's character, only to have her appear for 30 seconds in the sequel and then seemingly not even care when she dumps him. Still, Chloe Moretz is going to be rather attractive in a couple of years time I think.

Red 2 - 4/10. Seemed like it was marginally better than the first one, but still just a bunch of ridiculousness. Some decent action scenes at least but I really don't understand why they bothered making a sequel.

We're The Millers - 7/10, a pretty good comedy with some very funny scenes. I'm not a Jennifer Anniston fan by any means and she always ends up playing the same character in the same crap movies, but she was surprisingly good in this. Also, bonus points for Molly Quinn. Oh Molly Quinn.

Pacific Rim - 3/10. Some of the CGI was nice but the whole premise of all the countries in the world coming together to build stupidly huge expensive mechs was hilariously flimsy at best. Chuck in a hefty serving of poor acting, unconvincing accents and cliched character storylines and you end up with a movie that's barely held together by its somewhat impressive action scenes. I didn't understand why people got so excited about it when the trailers first came out, and I'm even more baffled having sat through it. I was willing to cut it some slack on the basis that it's obviously derived from anime/manga or whatever but I really didn't feel like it translated to film well.

Oh, and Elysium - 8/10. Had that same gritty feel to it that District 9 managed so well, really enjoyed this one. The ending seemed a little too "ideal" but aside from that it was great.

Also watched Man Of Steel but fell asleep a few times during it so it wouldn't be fair for me to rate it; didn't have time to rewind as it was just before landing. Didn't seem particularly remarkable though, but I'll give it a proper watch one day.

Recent film binge.

Pacific Rim - enjoyed it, but it is one of the biggest slices of ripe cheese I've ever seen, and my god what a terrible actor Burn Gorman is, just embarrassing. 6.5/10 [might have added a point if Burn had met a sticky end in the first few minutes]

The Hobbit extended ed - Seems to get better with each watch, even the opening chapter. The extended bits offer little, but the 9hrs of extras are fab. 8/10

The Great Gatsby - I wasn't expecting much but I really enjoyed this. The visuals, though not realistic, being mostly CGI are absolutely stunning, looking like paintings in many cases [3D bd]. I'm sure there is a better story than that presented in the film, but I enjoyed it none the less, and I though the performances were decent overall. 9/10

Before Midnight - third in the series following the romantic entanglements of Celine and Jesse. Another gorgeous setting, in Greece this time, but a far more sober dialogue... in fact, at times it feels like they spend the whole film arguing. The flush of youth over, and the realities of life, divorce and kids make this a very different film to the first two.

Too much arguing and tension... 6/10

Watched Fast and Furious 6 yesterday. 7.5/10 they really hit their stride with this one with the mix of action/driving/comedy. Shame it had the best setup for a sequel of any of them and it probably won't come to pass.

Echo the Great Gatsby comment above, wasn't particularly looking forward to it but really drew me in with some fantastic visuals and soundtrack.

Watched the Bourne legacy and I just don't see the point of the film it brings nothing new to the series, doesn't flesh out the story and doesn't do anything new. Its really hard to give it a score its not a bad film just utterly pointless.
