I saw the remake a few years ago and quite liked it. Didn't realise until a while after that it was actually a remake. Got the the original for Xmas and although I normally dislike black and white films the original was pretty good if not as technologically advanced as the remake. The Manchurian Candidate 1962...
great film must have been mind bogglign when it was released.. and not the usual singey/dancey frank sinatra, he even brings out the Ghung Fu...
id heartily recommend this film although i was unsure of a couple of segments. if id been on the production.script team this would have been even more epic.
that I hadn't seen it before?
at my joke?
Thenwhen you got the joke?

Fish Tank
Ah OK.The first because for a minute I thought you were serious, then I realised that you probably weren't, then I laughed at the joke.

I do see what you mean. I think the woman Sinatra's character got involved with was meant to be the "love interest" of the film. Perhaps also his conscience? Good point about the Korean.yea i read the remake is okay but not as good..
what didnt make sense was who was the woman that sinatra got involved with? completely random with no explanation whether she was communist - at first i thought she was the same girl who had been out with Sergeant Raymond Shaw before he joined the army. and that getting married quick was her game when she latched onto a target or something - until Sergeant Raymond Shaw shot her and the other dudes woman lived on...?
and like the korean who came to be a housekeeper for the Sergeant once he got into a fight with the other dude why didnt he tell HQ that this dude remember and could be dangerous?
and despite about 3 agencies, inc the fbi etc all being included why did it always seem that there was no real department weight being thrown behind the entire operation? it just seemed it was 1 man, maybe 2 vs the communists..and a better ending would surely have had soemone controlling Captain Bennett Marco afterall because they wanted the US handler removed?
you know soemthing completely to throw the viewer and end ona somber note?

As for the 3 agencies they probably kept it hush hush so that not many people knew about it?
Yeah. I do see what you mean. I certainly don't disagree with you that they could have made the script a little more complete.i know but it wasd a ll a bit sudden, and then she came home said she wasnt married but was infact engaged?! i was like wtf u have only spoken to this guy one time on a train when he freaked out and now u give up a fiance and want to marry him? to me it would have made more sense if she was russian spy to keep tabs on his progress in the outside world? if she'd been his handler then it could have been more interesting!
3 agencies yes but they knew potential to have an assassination of the next president, you'd think bigwigs from oter departments would be crawling all over it and that sinatra would have to fend them off to even allow his crazy plan a chance to proceed - because it was so much higher risk than just bringing him in, given that he had already given away his handler on the call well before the convention?
heh not trying to be overly critical but they could have turned a great soryline into an immense one with a bit more scope outside the main duo of characters.
#"Rather interesting development, Sir."
"My general says there is no point in continuing this fighting. He wishes to discuss terms of a surrender."
"Shall I answer him, Sir?"
"Tell him to go to Hell."
"...we haven't got the proper facilities to take you all prisoner, sorry!"
"What?!"
"We'd like to, but we can't accept your surrender. Was there anything else?"
"..."
"Alright?"
