What film did you watch last night?

Gone through a few from Old to New -

Chef - 7/10 - A really "nice" story about a divorced father renewing his relationship with his young son via a road trip after the father loses his job as a top Chef and starts again from scratch with a food truck. Well acted, nice humour but a little to much of a "hollywood ending" for me.

Maleficent - 4/10 -Angelina Jolie alone isn't enough to carry this mess of a film. It has it's good bits and feels more designed for under 10's which is probably why it didn't work for me. Very good CGI for the most but let down by a poor script and some truly horrific accents.

Troy - 6/10 - I would score this lower but for one scene between Peter O'Toole and Brad Pitt where O'Toole is pleading for Pitt to return the body of O'Toole's son which is phenomenal. Sadly the rest of the film, which does have some very good little scenes, feels bloated with far too much going on distracting from the main story.

Zodiac - 5/10 - A well made film which seems to lose it's way in the last 1/3, much like the real life investigation. Some very good acting from both leads but the story meanders around far too much which made me lose interest quickly.

Toy Soldiers - 7/10 - An 80's version of "Die Hard with kids" but very enjoyable. The smart script does have a few cliche's but it doesn't distract. While the kids (Sean Astin, Will Wheaton etc) do a fantastic job of conveying their disrespect for authority I though Lou Gosset Jr stole the film with his performance of the stereotypical "tough but fair" teacher. The action sequences during the final act were very well done too.

47 Ronin.

Was alright I guess. Keanu Reeves was alright.
Some really pretty scenes and few good fighting scenes, but I don't think it's a film i'd re watch.

47/10

ok 6/10

I really must watch Inception. Started it years ago, watched about 20 minutes but didn't get into it. Everyone says how good it is so better give it another try.

Last night watched Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World 8/10

Very good movie, excellent dialogue, excellent fight scenes and ships cannons blasting the **** out of each other and great sound effects. Recommended!

If you didn't get into it in the first 20 minutes can't really see you being grabbed any more by the rest of it.

I seem to remember being either tired or distracted at the time or just not having my movie head on. I'm sure I'll enjoy it properly this time round.

How are you and others watching it? Just checked and its not released until the 14th october on blu-ray and 20th october on itunes?

 well aren't you precious.

A Million Ways to Die in the West

Well after enjoying Ted thought I would give this go. A good enough start but quickly ran out of jokes..... all three of them.

4/10 not the worst film I have seen but no where as entertaining as Ted and felt like it was dragging by the end.

It's ok, members get banned and threads moved or locked for talking about television epodes that haven't aired yet, but it's totally fine for members to obtain copies of films prior to release and post cinema showing and discuss them.

Inconsistent.

I watched a few films the last week but in case someone gets uppity about how I watched it regardless of whether it was legal or not and whether they believe me when I say it was ill review them with caution.

One was OK and the other was crap

Before Midnight
Having recently re-watched the previous two I had been putting the third instalment on the backburner for some time. The movie was good, not as charming or thought provoking to begin with as the first especially but in the 2nd half when things heat up you're left wondering wtf!

Nice to see films like this, they tackle every day issues through intelligent dialogue and many of which you can even relate to. It was also nice to see a few more characters in this one as the first 2 are pretty much dominated by Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke throughout.

Before Sunrise: 8/10
Before Sunset: 7.5/10
Before Midnight: 7.5/10

Her.

Good story, mix of sci fi and romance. The sci fi angle made me think of Asimov, which is pretty high praise. Joaquin Phoenix is very good, considering he's talking to himself for most of the film. A couple of bits fell flat for me, like I could have done without the computer games scenes, but overall it was very good. Quite thought provoking, and I thought it touched on a lot of ideas that we'll face as we develop more advanced ai's.

I watched an incredible documentary on Netflix called 'Thea Dark Matter of Love'. 10/10 Pretty incredible stuff.

http://www.thedarkmatteroflove.com/

"Documentary on the psychological aspects of growing up with and without parental love. It centers around the Diaz family, who chooses to adopt three orphans from Russia, and how their new and old kids handle family together."

Didn't watch anything last night, not a thing, in fact I was busy doing the washing up!!!!! :D

Not the best film ever made but entertaining, decent action and humorous in places!

A solid 7/10 for me!
