What film did you watch last night?

Cloud atlas. Trying so hard to be clever and it was just tripe. Awful.

I completely agree but I couldn't help wonder if I'd only assessed the surface when in reality it was clever and I didn't have the aptitude to see beneath the veil. Naaaaaaa

Near the time of release, I was walking down the street and as I walked past this couple in deep discussion the woman turned to me and asked "Cloud Atlas or Inception?" to which I replied "Inception... every time."

Isn't it supposed to have some form of existential note... ?

Cloud Atlas tried so very hard to take on the incredible visual punch and storytelling prowess of THE FALL (2006) and it just ended up a farcical mess, such a shame.

Still find it hard to believe it was produced by the same people who made the matrix.

EDIT: Watched A million ways to die in the west on a whim tonight, putting it on almost in the background while browsing amazon, etc. it was mostly enjoyable - some genuinely funny bits and some surprisingly good bits from some actors though they are from high quality actors so not totally surprising but I think I'd have found it very tedious to watch in the cinema as a lot of the filler humour is just bad - there are 1-2 cameo bits though that are worth watching I think just for that (there are actually a few that are hilariously placed but hard to catch onto and others that are much more obvious and rather cleverly placed).

Watched a bit of transformers 4 so utter rubbish I couldn't get past the first bit and also just got around to the latest xmen movie which was quite good I thought can definitely tell its back to the original director - liked the way they used the powers in combination, etc. to add some nice layers to the movie.

Edge of Tomorrow - Really enjoyed this - Think I enjoyed some of the humour most of all. Good plot, decent ending and Emily Blunt! (8/10)

The Prestige - Don't know how I managed to wait so long before watching this. Thought it was superb! It's been a while since I got close to the end of a movie and I'm frantically trying to work out what the hell is going on! Explains it well at the end but going to have to give it another watch to pick up on some of the little things. Cracking film. (9/10).

Inbetweeners 2...despised the first one which fell really flat so wasn't expecting much with this but loved it, the humour was crude and puerile, jokes on target, had me in pieces...8/10

Some Kind Of Wonderful. Meh, not convinced. It is a long way from John Hughes' finest work. Very 80s - rubbish music, rubbish clothes, rubbish hair. The story is a bit sprawling and the dialogue isn't as sharp as it needs to be. It seems like it was a big deal at the time, so maybe it just hasn't aged well, much like Sixteen Candles, which is properly ropey despite having been acclaimed at the time.

Fargo

Thought I'd give it a watch with the wife as she hadn't seen it and it had been years since I saw it. Very unusual but unique and solid film. Also their accents are amazing lol :p

7.5/10

A Million Ways To Die In The West

Loved this film. Very entertaining take on the classic Western genre. Had to watch it again, just to spot the Ewan McGregor cameo and still enjoyed it second time around.

Yar?

I showed it to my girlfriend as well recently. She'd never seen anything by the Coen Brothers, so we started on this. She really liked it, and watched O, Brother Where Art Thou the following weekend.

She's catching on!

Neighbors
2/10.

Terribly unfunny and the neighbors (frat house), weren't actually too bad.
In a nutshell, the frat house (neighbors) just made a lot of noise, but were actually quite nice people who simply loved to party.

I've seen worse documentaries about bad neighbours on channel 5!.

Moreover, the acting from Seth Rogan and the lady who plays his wife was terrible.
If anybody wants to see a master class in how not to act, please, watch this. Its as if they got a couple of people from the street, gave them lines to read off a piece of paper and asked them to star in this movie, for $10, as thats all the producers had in their pockets at the time.

Zac Efron may have been the only positive in this movie.

Whichever angle you look at this movie from, its bad.
