What film did you watch last night?

Elysium - Sci-fi set 140 years into the future with most of humanity scraping by in shanty towns on earth while the rich live in a huge space station orbiting close by. It was good enough and the special effects were perfect but I was expecting a little more from Neill Blomkamp, the director of one of my favourites, District 9. 3/5

Gone Girl. Awesome, I felt the pace started off quite slowly then started to pick up. I completely lost all track of time watching this and was utterly enthralled by it. Brilliant movie.

Interstellar, 4/10.

Another **** film with rave reviews. Good sci fi films are becoming a very, very rare breed.

No character development - odd considering the number of years that pass.
The story lacks momentum and goes nowhere.
Laughable scientific concepts , such as the depiction of the planets near the black hole or 'love transcends time and space', just like that other pretentious turd, Cloud Atlas.
Forced acting.

I could go on but I'd just get frustrated as I can't stop thinking about the 3 hours of my life that have been wasted forever.

the story has great momentum, lee smith is one of the best editors in the business right now and made some great editing decisions to keep the pace such as the cross-cutting to the take-off.

this is also the most scientifically accurate movie in a long time, leading experts have said its wholly plausible. the "love transcends" thing wasn't used as a concept just an idea/feeling from brand.

on topic though today i binge watched 4 tarkovsky movies, he really was a phenomenal auteur director. Solaris is a masterpiece.

Watched Belle last night on netflix canada.

A very good period drama with some good performances. Thoroughly enjoyable film.

The Equalizer. Denzel kicking ass. Quite entertaining overall, though surely he should be arrested at the end. Killed how many guys in front of witnesses in a large DIY store and wanders out scott free. Ah well.

7/10

Shaun the sheep - 8/10

We saw it because its now the year of the sheep, its genuinely funny all the way through with the classic Aardman style. Well worth a watch.

Silver linings playbook

Wasn't really sure what to expect going into this. One of the best films I've watched in a while. Bradley cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were fantastic and thoroughly deserved the oscar/ nomination. From what I can gather from IMDB reviews it seems that this is a love hate film although I really can't see why. Brilliant film. 8.5/10.

The Judge 7.5/10. I enjoy a good courtroom drama and the only thing that annoyed my in this is....
from alleged crime to jury selection and trial in a week?

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

Boring cloying and no improvement over the others. Maybe there was enough material for one more film (combine Part 1 and 2) as this feels very stretched out with countless filler. Some good action sequences just don't make up for the lack of pace.

Another one for the teen Twilight market.

3.5/10
