What film did you watch last night?

Dredd is just a remake of The Raid, Judge Dredd has a better story plus a big robot so it's a easy win for Sylvester Stallone plus it's up there with Demolition Man which is a classic movie

Dredd was in production first, and The Raid was quickly made off the same storyline. Obviously Dredd took longer to make due to the effects and higher production values, and The Raid got rushed out first.

Stallone's Dredd had it's moments, but it's not that faithful to the comics except in the background, and basically rewrote the characters (the most important thing) to be a vehicle for a Hollywood star.

Young guns.

Saw them both at the cinema, prefer the sequel. Still a decent romp if you go for Emilio Estevez at his charming best.

95 dredd for me, the costume/props, sets, fantastic for a comic book film.

It's really not, do a bit of googling and you'll see Dredd was well into production before Raid even got off the ground. Within 2 months of the Dredd script leaking online, The Raid was announced as Gareth Evans new project.

EDIT: Just saw someone else already posted this.

Re-watched Goodfellas for the first time in 10 years or so. Still holds up. Probably will always hold up and Pesci still scares the **** off of me.

I don't really believe that there is such a thing as the best film ever, but gun to my head, I might well come up with this.

The Stallone Judge Dredd was a steaming pile of ****. Picked a few ideas from the "source material" and just threw the rest away. Judge Dredd wasn't Judge Dredd, he was Stallone.

Indeed. Stallone's Dredd was a parody. Personally, I'd prefer to to see a faithful take on the character, not just a vehicle for some overpaid Hollywood movie star to further his ego.

But there's always been a bit of parody and absurd humour in the Dredd comics. In fact the one thing I missed from Dredd was that it was a bit too straight and serious, but I think I liked it better than Stallone's Dredd which went way too far the other way and didn't really respect the characters.

When you see what Marvel can do with it's comics, I'm a bit sad that there's so many great characters from 2000AD that haven't been given a fair shake with the exception of one poor Dredd and one really good one that didn't get marketed properly.

Dredd has so many good stories that could be translated straight to screen, but no one has done them yet.

Kingsmen

Really enjoyed this. Great film.

Montage of Heck

By far the best documentary ever made about Kurt Cobain. You don't even need to be a fan to appreciate it. Excellent stuff.

Seventh Son

What an abomination! Seriously, did Bridges really think that accent was viable??

2/10

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Is nice! 7/10

Whiplash.
7/10.
A film that you'd probably want to talk about, after watching it, to decipher the subtleties of the relationship between teacher and student.

They are very similar - I agree.
Though in Dredd, I liked the way the blonde rookie, turned into a female version of Dredd, in one night.
Also, I cared about the 2 main characters in Dredd.
In The Raid, the characters were simply expendable, almost like a computer game. You lose one good guy, its okay, because you/he gets another "life".

...plus it's up there with Demolition Man which is a classic movie

I agree that Demolition Man was a great movie. But Judge Dredd, I felt, was more a comedy and light-hearted. While Dredd was more serious and intense.

I watched Dredd several times, which I cant say for many movies.

Good points.

It annoyed me that Cannon did not get to make the film he wanted, and that Stallone had too much creative input, changing what could have been a pretty faithful Dredd film, into nothing more than a vehicle. The film got a critical mauling and barely made a profit. I think Stallone did say that he regretted some of his decisions while making the film.

Karl Urban's take on Dredd might have been missing some humour, but at least his ego wasn't so big that he had to take the helmet off and shout, 'I am the law!'. :p

The problem is that 2000AD/Dredd is basically british and doesn't have the following elsewhere. This is why Dredd flopped so badly in the US and won't get a sequel.

It's a shame because it's a well made solid film with a good script and great performances. Also one of the few films which makes perfect use of 3D visuals.

Stallone's Judge Dredd is absurdly bad, only the Angel Family and ABC Warrior were any good.

Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Over all loved it, there were bits I didn't like and bits I would have liked to be different but over all they did a great job.

It gets a 8.5/10 from me. :)

The fact that it wasn't well known in the US was why it needed marketing, instead the studio decided that it wouldn't do well because Dredd wasn't well known, and so didn't spend any money on marketing, thus making sure their own prediction came true.

Once again some faceless studio executive who knows more about accountancy than movies makes sure he can pat himself on the back over a failure he caused.

John Wick.
Heard good things about it, was ready for a good Saturday night film. It just wasn't that good, not terrible but certainly not as good as I'd hoped 5/10

Interstellar. Fun watch with great acting but it made things like Star Wars and Mass Effect look reasonable at times, and I just don't particularly get on with films that try to be serious yet completely ridiculous at points. 7.5/10

It actually turned a profit of about £20 million when home sales are taken into account, not enough to get them to make a sequel though.

Stallones Dredd probably killed it as well, i've spoken with so many people who've never watched it because they assumed it would be like Stallones version.
