What film did you watch last night?

The Martian. Solid adaptation of the book, makes a good job of it. Excellent performance from Matt Dampn, very funny, great visuals, great soundtrack. I enjoyed it a lot.

The Deer Hunter - 4/10.

I did not enjoy this film at all. The wedding scene drags on for way too long (around an hour?!) and you don't feel as though you got to know the characters any better in that time.
Russian Roulette scenes feel pretty much forced into it. Also, Walken's character making a career out of playing Russian Roulette... seriously?

Could have had an hour or so cut from it and wouldn't have been any different.

Thorougly disappointed, and I just can't take Robert De Niro seriously when he does scenes where he's crying.

I thought The Deer Hunter was rubbish as well. It had good bits, but large chunks of it were dreadful, and I absolutely agree with you about the wedding.

Godzilla (2014) meh.... pretty poor really. Edward's 'Monsters' is a far better film; here he seems out of his depth... and the two best actors killed off so soon

4.5/10

Just watched the older Broderick film and there's not enough Godzilla in it really like I remember.

Sometimes I to look for some oddball films for a change.

Turbo Kid - 8/10

Super low budget retro superhero meets Mad Max. Did I say it was low budget and they ride bicycles no cars. Despite the this it has some fun gore moments and actually made me laugh a couple of times.

The other not so well known film was.

Everly - 7/10

"An action/thriller centered on a woman who faces down hitmen sent by her ex, a mob boss, while holed up in her apartment."

That's it really forget the plot or attempts to act out some scenes. There's some titillation and lots of people being killed with guns n stuff. It stars Salma Hayek if that matters to you.

OK I also watched.

Tomorrowland - 8/10

I was expecting the worst being a Disney film but despite the initial bit (after the intro) where I thought yea here we go another typical cheesy Disney kids film. It actually entertained me for the whole film. Clooney & Laurie were in it which was the main reason I gave it a try.

Human Centipede 3.
1/10 - will never get the time back in my life. All three not really my type of movie but first one was interesting for it's weirdness, and the second even more weird and quite comical. The third, a lot of shouting and not much really - ended up speed watching the last 50% of it. Some parts were funny but just tired of the movie - hopefully it's the last one they make. I did like the fact that they had some of the lead actors from the other two in the final one.
Second movie I thought was the best. From the clinical cleanliness and wealth of the environment and intelligence of the character in first "centipede maker", to the poor, dirty environment mentally challenged aspect of the second maker. For me the contrast and more comical nature of the second made it a little better.

Alive 7/10

Really great and compelling story but I found it hijacked a little by poor overall character portrayal and the shortened trip across the Andes which was one of the most amazing aspects of whole thing.

Surprised with how entertaining the Martian was.

Expected to enjoy it due to the subject matter at hand. Better because of the entertaining way in which it's all presented.

Definitely a film for everybody, buffs, geeks, young and old, great to see the local cinema packed with a audience of exactly that.

A triumph.

9/10 are truly good, films like the fog or the thing

something 5/10 would be rom coms or poor comedies like the three amigos

don't like many modern films they all tend to be tripe, but Prometheus and taken 1/2 wasn't to bad and the purge 1/2

Captain Philips

Was alright. Expected better but was worth a watch. Got a bit boring and frustrating though. The parts were played well.

6/10

Tried to watch 'Spirited Away' because it gets talked about a lot as one of the best ever films, not my cup of tea at all though. Stopped halfway through.

Those Studio Ghibli style films can be a bit marmite and slow paced. Sometimes you need to be in the right kind of mood to watch one.

Maybe try Howl's Moving Castle instead. Princes Mononoke is one of may favourites.

So not exactly a film, but it's released on DVD so anyway. I watched The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall. Very good if it's something you like.
