What film did you watch last night?

The main thread of it was 'ok' but a lot of the background work and side issues and stories weren't good enough for me. Spielberg undoubtedly used "Strangers on a Bridge", written by Donovan (the character played by Tom Hanks) for the basis of the whole film, but he schmatzed it all up too much. I also didn't find Hank's or anyone else's acting in it to be memorable.

This dude was great in Wolf Hall

Yes indeed he was - I watched the whole series due in the main to him. In this film he's unfortunately a bit part (can't be seen to be out acting Hanks I'd guess) and is much more a silent/stoic type. This worked exceptionally well in Wolf Hall but not this for me. I didn't expect or want a sweaty/angry chain smoking cliche at all, but the part he played didn't work for me.

Atari- Game Over

Short documentary about the sudden demise of Atari and the legendary myth of them burying 4 millions cartridges of the E.T game in 1983 in the Mexican desert.

8/10

The Seven Five

Documentary about corrupt police in 80's Brooklyn NYC

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4136056/

One of the best docs I have seen in a while. Utterly gripping!

10/10

Watched Fury.

Bit grim, but im guessing that's the point. Probably not the best depiction of the grimace of war, I think there's better films that do that.

Probably should check the range of those rpg panzerfausts before saying it, but that SS company appeared to be carrying an awful lot of them when you saw them marching in.

Average non the less, but if you like the genre, one to watch if you already haven't.

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey - 1/5

Retains none of the originals charm or humour and has an abysmal story.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3/5

Awful compared to the LotR films but a half decent film in its own right. Never watched the rest of the trilogy so might change my score depending on how the story unwinds.

Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy - 3/5

Gary Oldman is outstanding in this film and the idea and story was great up until the last quarter where I lost track of what was going on. Need to watch it a few more times to determine what the hell happened.

Kingsman

7.5/10.

Pretty enjoyable but also slightly bizarre romp. Sam L Jackson's lisp was pretty hilarious.

Quite a nice closing shot as well :D

I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly, the film was very glossy to me too. I didn't feel as though there was any danger whatsoever, and it was devoid of tension.

Mark Rylance is a great actor, but he didn't have much to work with here.

Oh and Tom Hanks is Tom Hanks.

Oops, forgot to put...

Bone Tomahawk - 8/10.

Very good debut by the director and on a tiny budget too. I really enjoyed it but I can see it won't be to everyone's tastes. Really liked Kurt Russell and good to see Richard Jenkins! But Matthew Fox and Patrick Wilson always seem a little B-movie to me, which I suppose this film is to a degree.

The action was very matter of fact and quick, and 'real' despite the subject matter, which I found quite refreshing. There are a few gruesome scenes too... ;)

Interview with a Vampire - 5/10

A film for people who like their vampires pretty. Not a bad film, but completely forgettable.

I still cannot get over how young Kirsten Dunst was. Let alone it was 1994. The theatre killing was chilling. All those black cloaks and the way they looked at the audience.

Sicario.

8/10 and Del Torro was bad ass.

It's been a long time since a movie created so much tension for me.

Black Mass.
As a big fan of the gangster film format, quite enjoyed this. It's not as out there as the classics, but being based on true events I suppose it can only stretch so much of those events compared to other films and their base plots. 7/10 seems a fair score.
