What film did you watch last night?

Beauty and the beast. 8/10

Cracking movie. Very funny, very typically Disney. The singing was all bang on. I can barely remember the original so i cant really compare it though.

Only thing i didn't like was the voice of the teapot...East end cockney London accent...WHY GOD WHY
I heard a clip on the radio of Emma Thompson doing that ludicrous accent and Ewan McGregor doing his best filthy English kerniggits French accent. Urgh.

I thought Ewen McGregor played it very well. It suits the setting in the film. I just don't understand why ET did that horrible East end accent.

Maybe it grinds me as it brings back too many bad memories :P

Anyway. About to go in to see GITS. Will report back later. :D

Ghost In The Shell - 8/10 for me, and a solid one at that.

I am a big fan of the original anime. I haven't seen it for a while but I have seen it many times. I was originally apprehensive about this anime being adapted into a movie. But gradually seeing trailers and sneak peaks excitement began to build.

In short, I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it for many reasons....if you see it and haven't seen the original with zero reference to it, you'll think it's a good futuristic looking action movie with a bit of sci-fi thrown in.

If you have seen the original you'll smile when you see the recreation of some truly iconic and memorable moments from the anime. Major jumping off the building and turning invisible for example, or the fight with the spider tank.

But what I like, is that it it follows the anime and original story, recreates some iconic moments...but it DOESN'T try and be something other than an adaptation of the original.

The effects were stunning, SJH gave a great performance IMO. The actors played it all well. Overall, very glad I saw it in the cinema!

Ghost in the Shell - 7/10

Visually stunning, great sound mixing, elements from all the different anime/manga, but the script fell flat in places.

7/10 for me too, visuals were great and many aspects and effects were well executed. The atmosphere and environment was well done and really set tone of the movie. As a film it was good and I think it would work well for the general audience, but for those that are familiar with the anime, you can't help but compare it to the original movie. I think the script could have been a bit better in certain parts and for me the movie differences and the creative changes stood out like s sore thumb. This may be to simplfy the plot to improve pacing and shorten the length but in my opinion hurt the story as a whole. Although it did nothing wrong I deducted a point because of certain directions it took.

Overall still enjoyed it and thought it was well done. I am glad it was so good as it could have been much worse.

On 13 hour flight to Malaysia , so had a movie spree on the plane.

La La Land - 0/10 , turned off after 30mins. Definitely not my cup of tea but thought I would watch it to see what all the fuss is about. Didnt see the fuss.

Inferno - 5/10 , latest Dan Brown outing. Tom Hanks looking very haggard and aged. Had the actress from Star Wars Rogue One in it, who irritates me (see below). Just a meh film, not good, not bad, just exists.

Star Wars Rogue One - 6/10. I know its very shallow and nasty of me but the lead actress irritates me because she looks like a rabbit with those two front teeth. I just found myself hypnotised by them in scenes. Good CGI for Tarkin and Leia, I mean you could still see it was obviously CGI but good though. Found the film overall to be quite so-so but filled in a gap of how Leia gets the deathstar plans. One thing that I was very surprised about was just how bad some of the acting was, not just bad...but REALLY bad.

Passengers - 8/10. Totally cliche ridden, every aspect of the main story and subplots has been done before. Nothing new here yet I really enjoyed it. Great popcorn movie, loved the thought gone into how the ship is automated early on. Amazing chemistry between Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, not hard at all to see how the rumours surrounding them came about.

Films to watch on the return flight in a couple of weeks. Sing, Hacksaw Ridge, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Assassins Creed.

Hacksaw Ridge is well worth a watch, saw that on yesterdays flight. Fantastic Beasts is worth it too.

I'll watch Assassins Creed on my return flight.

the infiltrator - 6/10 love cranston in it, rest was ok.

suburra - italian flick, 8/10 thoroughly enjoyed it, would certainly recommend it if you want a crime drama

operacoes especiais - brazilian flick - 6/10 it was ok, easy to watch but not a lot to it

Free Fire (2017) - 8/10

A one-gag movie, but it manages to keep it humorous throughout without it becoming tiresome.

Good range of characters and some nice little touches keep it entertaining, but there isn’t much to it beyond the core premise.

Jonah lives

Good god this was the biggest pile of **** I've ever watched. You could put a guy on stage and have him play "land of hope and glory" by repeated sharting and it would be infinitely more entertaining than this ****-pile.

Free State of Jones.

What a quaint little film, nicely acted and the story based on a true story . Matthew McConaughey is brilliant in it as are the other members of the cast. Even the wife enjoyed it and she usually hates war films.

I'm in London on business so had hoped to sneak along to the cinema as a treat without needing a babysitter at home. I'd wanted to see Freefire, but a showing had been cancelled or something so that sucked. I saw Beauty and the Beast instead. Now I'm an ardent fan of the 1991 film, so I was ready for it to be terrible, and I wasn't disappointed, which is to say I was. It was rubbish. Clunky, artless, not funny, without pace or rhythm, overlong... the voice acting and singing pretty much sucked. The excellent songs were horribly arranged. The whole thing fell headlong into the uncanny valley and never made it out again and the whole thing looked faker than the animated film because the cgi just isn't good enough.

Rubbish.
