What film did you watch last night?

Basically his selfish actions (diddums I'm all alone) deny her of a life...

Then we are meant to care for this character and have a laugh with him?

The film sucked! Imo :)
But wouldn't they'd be dead anyway as the ship was breaking down? He didn't know that at the time when he woke her up, granted. Can't believe we're debating this, it really wasn't a good movie :)

Dredd.
Watched it again, love this film, Karl Urban is Dredd, he fulfils the role very well, very honest to the source material.
Just a drug bust. A single day for a judge.
9/10

Damn shame it didn't make enough for a sequel. They could have had a wonderful series of films.

One of my all time favourites, they got it all right. Shame they only released in 3D at the cinema, otherwise it would have taken much more money and i'm sure we'd have a sequel by now.

Our hopes now are in the likes of a Netflix series, with the success of Punisher within Daredevil S2, it's possible.

I always get frustrated that "The Raid" which ripped off Dredd got a sequel and this didn't. Raid 1 & 2 are still great films tho.

I'm genuinely surprised that
people did not pick up the fact that Chris Pratt essentially murders JL in passengers.

He essentially wakes her up to serve a life sentence trapped on a ship.

I actually took it that he gave her a life (unknowingly of course) because she really didnt have a life, her entire goal in life was to try and equal her famous pulitzer winning father by replicating his achievements and winning a pulitzer (by writing a book covering her 240 year round trip to a colony and back) she gave up everything in her life to achieve that (as evidenced by the look back at her best friend saying goodbye to her for good) , she didnt really have her own life, just her fathers life. By discovering the feelings she had for Pratts character and being willing to spend the rest of her days with him, she gains her own life rather than trying to simply live up to her fathers. At least thats how I saw it :)

Pretty sure the raid came out first. Was one of the reasons i didn't like dredd as much and didn't see it at the cinema. Thought it was going to be pants and a Hollywood version of the raid. Which it is to an extent but it works in terms of the films universe.

Dredd was started first, the cheaper and less effects-laden Raid was rushed out before Dredd finished post-production. The way it works is a production company shops around a script, and for whatever reason doesn't get a deal first time around, and ends up at another studio. The first studio liked the idea enough to copy it, but changes it enough not to get sued, rushes it out, usually with a lower budget. That's why it seems that several of the same type of film comes out at the same time, and there always seems to be a b-movie rip-off out there at the same time.

Sully (8.5/10)
The mrs and I watched Sully last night, we really enjoyed the film and its portrayal of the events and investigation that followed.

The Raid began pre-production about 2 months after the full Dredd script leaked online, due to Gareth Evans connections in Indonesia (after filming Merantau a few years before), he managed to get it filmed and finished quickly to get it out before Dredd. Thus the common misconception that Dredd ripped off The Raid when it's the other way around.

Saw passengers last night. Entirely average and forgettable. 6/10 at best. Just nothing really to recommend it. (apart from the lovely jennifer lawrence)

Train to Busan - 7.8/10. Some great scenes, but every time your heart was in your mouth there was a slow down. I get they have to take a breath and make new plans, but it suffered from pacing issues when it was just long shots of a kid/dad crying or longs shots of the group; no dialogue.

If they had kept the pressure on, the viewers would have been on a hell of a ride and this would have been a hell of a movie!

The void, 2/10 predictable doesn't really explain why what's happening is at any point. It does do gore quite well for it's budget as it's an indie film but everything else is very forgettable

I'd say it's like Independence Day. Pretty rubbish if you're a snobby film critic, but a good watch if you want an easy viewing.

It's nothing like Independence Day.
Independence Day knows what it is

Passengers doesn't and is just guff. In fact passengers is a very dark film hidden behind a plastic veneer lost in the void of space ... which in fact is a good thing cause it's dreadful, there is nothing to redeem it other than JL pay cheque.

It was one of the best films of the year

(watched on BA flight to and from New York)

The Magnificent 7. Average really, the gun fight at the end was actually quite poor. The fight between the Native Americans was laughable. 5/10

Assissins Creed. It was OK I guess. Not particularly exciting, average fight scenes. 6/10

Rogue One. Really enjoyed it. Good story, good characters, good ending. 8/10

Free Fire. Saw the trailer in the cinema and thought it looked good. Fairly average really, although I always enjoy Sharlto Copley and Cillian Murphy. 5/10 for the film, 8/10 for Copley.

On TV yesterday, P.S. I love you. Just had to mention it here for the Gerard Butler and the worst Irish accent I've ever heard in a movie.
