What film did you watch last night?

The Foreigner. 8/10

This popped up on Netflix and give it a go. Not your usual Jackie Chan flick and I hadn't seen anything about it so was quite surprised at the direction it took. Jackie Chan is great. I enjoyed it.

Back to the Future 9/10 Well, what can I say, it's a classic. Amazing movie :)

Split 8\10

James McAvoy is great. Plays his characters well. Gripping story and a freaky ending.

Some terrible American comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates 6\10

Formulaic dross. Funny start but boring moral crap in the last act like every single American modern comedy. Can't even tell it apart

Terminator Genisys - 3rd time or so I have watched it and still feel it was a great way to round up 1 and 2.

One thing still confuses me however... maybe i just missed it but...

How can Kyle Reese be in the future with John Connor when he is infact his father?

agree - Also just saw it, unlike the vigilante films the equalizer/death-wish, you rooted for the character, a bit llike David Carradine in his series,
unfortunately too violent for family viewing .. so different to many of his films. ending was great.

Unlike Hyena 5/10 violent film about cop corruption spiralling out of control - some believable characters ... but most unexpected ending.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - I feel that this one is a bit of a grower. I enjoyed watching it but at the end felt slightly disappointed. Having thought about it more I think I would enjoy it more on a second watch. A lot of my thoughts have been said before more eloquently so I won't rehash them here. 4/5

Valerian and the city of a thousand planets

Ha! I really enjoyed this. Moreso than either of the new Star Wars offerings (Rogue One is better though).

Definitely gave my 5th Elements vibes (which makes sense) and was gorgeous to watch, so vibrant and colourful with imaginative stuff everywhere!

Valerian himself still grates me a bit (just like he did in A Cure For Wellness and Amazing Spiderman), but it was a fun romp, I actually liked Clara's characeter (even though her face/eyebrows generally annoy me).

7.5/10

Because time travel?

Very generous with that score I have to say.

Good visually and some nice ideas, but the two lead actors were absolutely atrocious. Zero chemistry between them. Completely ruined the film for me.

I'd say 5/10 absolute tops.

My ratings are a scale on how much I enjoyed the film, and that enjoyment can vary depending on the type of film and what I enjoyed about it.

As an example, I enjoyed Birdman to a similar level, but for different reasons.

if I were to scale it using similar themed films (sci-fi, space romps), I enjoyed Valerian slightly more than GotG 2 (due to lower expectations of Valerian, higher expectations of GotG 2, and the forced humour in GotG falling flat for me), a fair bit more than TFA and TLJ (mainly due to Star Wars just not having that magic for me any more), and miles above the turd that was Jupiter Ascending.

Valerian was certainly better than Jupiter ascending, now that was truly an awful turd of a film.

I'd put guardians of the galaxy 2 as a 6/10.

I actually really enjoyed birdman, 7/10 for me.

It's all down to personal opinion though :)

I do feel people hand out 8, 9 or 10 scores a little too liberally.

Personally, I rate films as follows:

10 - Perfect film, does not yet exist
9 - Will Go down as an all time classic
8 - Brilliant film, just short of being a classic
7 - Very good film with a few flaws
6 - Commendable effort, things I liked, things I didn't
5 - Very average in every way
4 - heavily flawed film
3 - 1 Awful, not even worth a watch

Spring Breakers

Not sure how to rate this, I'm still not sure what I've just watched. Definitely not what I expected in general, don't know if this was drivel or something that can be considered some serious social commentary.

Pi (1998) - 7/10

Good art style and use of cinematography but filming it in black and white doesn’t really add anything to it, and makes it hard to see at times what’s going on.

The plot is smart and weird, with conspiracy, religion and mathematics, but it never really gripped me.

Good acting from the lead character, and I liked the psychological aspects.

Star Wars The Last Jedi (2017) - 5/10

It’s a good film, but as it’s very predictable and formulaic, I never really found it exciting or awe-inspiring.

Sure the locations and the cute little characters have changed but the tempo of the plot and the concepts are all so similar to what has gone before.

The music, presentation and special effects are great, but the lightsabre battle was lacking and some of the acting and dialogue was weak.

My Xmas season has started.

Trading Places - 9/10 - One of my favourite movies.
If they ever remade it I don't think they could or would do some of the stuff,it still nice to think about what a remake would be like hope they never remake it unless they keep the same level.

Home Alone 9/10 - another all time classic movie.
With Disney buying fox Im hoping they have this on the radar and will take a look at making another one as good as the first 2.

Yogis First Christmas 5/10 - it took me back to when i was little kid (nostalgia)

Bad Santa 9/10 - Still great.

Bad Santa 2 - 6.5/10 not as good as the first.

Holiday in handcuffs - 6/10 not bad for a made for TV movie.

Deck the halls 6.5/10

I think the point was there were some lasses in bikinis, including Selena Gomez. I watched it a while back but can remember very little about it.

Your scale seems to be off. No point having something that will never exist, on top of that you have nothing for 2 and 1.
7 I would say is average, and is how most people rate it, look at IMDb 7 rated films.

10 should exist, but should be used incredibly rarely. I can think of maybe a couple of films I would rate 10.

7 shouldn't be average. 5 should be average. Otherwise your scale is needlessly skewed.
