What film did you watch last night?

Coco 7.5 I really enjoyed it, it was much better then the trailers suggested one of the best Pixar movies in a few few years.

if the incredible 2 is at the same level i will be really happy and it would have been worth the wait .

Star wars - last jedi
3/10
I think it looked well, but as with so much big budget films now, they don’t attempt to make things even remotely within their own history.

I still can’t forgive the first film having four or five habitable planets that all got wiped with one superweapon fired from systems away. Its just twaddle.
This one, bombers that in ‘space’ actually bomb from above, what the hell was anyone thinking. Massive opening scene and it just screamed of, wtf? This film clearly isn’t aimed at me, but I spent ages trying to work out who it was aimed at.
The comedy was awfully timed, and reaked of jarjar, even with mini jarjars at one stage.

I actully think this comes close to the worst ever disney film. I am sure there are worse ones, but they are not springing to mind.

Geralds Game (2017) - 7/10

Went into this one fairly blind, never having read the book. Found it to be very enjoyable aside from "that scene" although as with a lot of King adaptations the ending is often a gut punch

Thought it was going to be one of the best films of last year up until the end...

The confirmation of the spectres identity was such an enormous mistake. Not only did it seem quite goofy, but HUGELY contrived.

Took the kids (age 8, 4.5) to see Ferdinand for the cheap £2.50 sunday morning tickets at the local multiplex. Was a pretty average kid's animated film, but highlighted by a wonderful china shop scene.
Some really blatant cuts saw it jump around a fair bit - they obviously had to chop chunks to meet the U certification.

Also finally watched Deadpool (not with the kids, obvs). Really liked it - was funny and, in contrast to the handful of superhero films I've bothered watching (not a fan, mostly), really benefited from keeping the peril small and personal. One death is a tragedy, one million deaths is a statistic....

Justice League - There must be something wrong with me because I actually quite enjoyed it, and the grittiness that it offers in comparison with some of the Marvel films. In fact, I even like some of the characters more because of the films than I did previously (was never very fond of Superman and I actually found myself rooting for him...). The only one of the DC films I found to be a real dud was Suicide Squad.

7/10 as I agree this one was better as I didn't finish the last Batman vs whoever just got bored.

Watched Padington to refresh my memory and then Padington 2 and I liked both equally so 9/10 for me for a good uplift from watching them both.

Transformers: The Last Knight 4/10 usual Bayhem, bit more attempt at a plot but most of it was usual silliness. I must say though that the Hopkins scenes with the robo-butler voiced by James Carter stole the show. They were the most genuinely entertaining parts of the whole thing. I probably wouldn't have watched it but wife was having a lie in and kids were quiet in family room so switched off brain.

Went and watched red sparrow last night at the cinema with the missus...

Ermm I can safely say that me and missus thought it was very average. It had its moments but missus was pretty surprised at the amount of sex in the movie.

I’d give it 5/10 in all honesty. Also Jennifer Lawrence is very average as an actress. I didn’t mind her too much in hunger games but in this one, I didn’t think she was that great.

Free Fire (2016)

Can't give a true rating of the movie as I gave up after about 45mins, it seemed to be going nowhere, surprised I managed 45minutes to be honest, from what I watched....lots of people shooting at each other, that was it, I think the movie was trying to be funny but it failed hugely. Based on what I watched I would give it a 1/10, It's very rare I give up on movies but this was just trash.

Wasn't just me then.

I rarely give up on a film, but this one was an exception.

I think it lasted about half an hour before I reached for the remote.

Erm, I don't think it's fair to judge her ability as an actress on her most mainstream films to be honest. What about Silver Linings Playbook, Joy, mother! etc..

The Outsider (Netflix) - 7/10
Slightly cliched in terms of storyline but I though it was nicely shot and it held my attention throughout. Worth seeing.

EDIT - Critics are slating it. Something of a pattern emerging here.

Star Wars Last Jedi - 5/10

I love sci-fi so perhaps this is getting a higher score than it deserved but so little of it made sense. It was like they wanted to get somewhere with the story and they didn't care how they got there or how stupid it was.

Luke Skywalker just made 0 sense. He half created Kylo Ren and by all account a few other bad Jedi and his solution to that was to **** off and hide. His only contribution is then to do some bollocksy projection thing at the end to help the remaining main characters do a runner. He then ascends after a job well done apparently.

They can't seem to decide how strong any Jedi etc is in any of these films. Kylo Ren is apparently super strong but time and time again is basically ****. That being said we have this super powerful Sith Lord in Snoak who seems all powerful and can do what he wants and just as he is monologuing Kylo somehow hides his hot headed/wear my feelings on my sleeve persona to hide his intent and kill him. After that he struggles to dispatch a few henchman.

The pursuit of the rebel fleet is again completely ridiculous but that pales in comparison to the final part where they take out the whole First Order battlegroup by sending a lone ship at them through hyperspace. Hundreds of thousands of people die in a space battle between two fleets when one side could just autopilot one of their large ships into the enemy fleet and destroy them.

Oh and the Leia floating back on board after being blown into space didn't make much sense either.

The pacing was very slow, characters were all over the place and the story didn't really go anywhere.

I just can't get over the fact they released it with Superman's CGI moustache removal. It's so off-putting. They reportedly spent hundreds of thousands of dollars digitally removing it because they 'wanted his moustache to look realistic in the upcoming Mission: Impossible film'. What, you couldn't make a realistic looking moustache for less than that?! You're fired!

I think the MI moustache issue was that the MI studio (a different one to the Justice League one) wouldn't agree to let him shave it.

I reckon they should have just given Superman a 'tache, though. Why not?

POTC: OST

Never seen it and thought I’d watch before the new one. Stupid plot, terrible acting from Penélope Cruz and overall just a very bad film. Hopefully, Salazars revenge is better. 3/10. The 3 is just for the effects and action scenes.

T2: Trainspotting

Enjoyed this film. Nowhere near as good as the original nor did it have an impact like the first, but it was still a great catchup on the characters. They still have the great on screen chemistry that they did in the first one. Did feel like it tried to be too clever and artsy at times though with all the flashback and surreal scenes. I’ll give it 7/10.
