What film did you watch last night?

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) - 4/10

A superhero movie where they forgot to include the superhero and when they finally do bring one in, they bring in three at once.

The tribute to Boseman is effectively moving and the story is good and quite mature, but there’s nowhere near enough action and it feels like a hodge-podge of lots of other things.

The film is slow, long and dull; the action is bland and lacking, the American CIA scenes were completely unnecessary and although there are some visual spectacles in the grand scale, it’s never that spectacular.

The villain was good, the characters are ok and the tribal elements are colourful, but it just didn’t excite, thrill or amaze me the way a superhero movie should.
Right there with you. I went to see it tonight and was extremely disappointed. One of my friends who also went did love it however.

Die Another Day.

Had to finish up the Brosnan films but this is a bit of a train wreck if I'm honest, after gaining an renewed appreciation for Pierce Brosnan as Bond even he seems to know the movie he is in isn't very good. The action is a bit hit or miss, the story doesn't deliver and all the actors seem to be there for a pay check. A disappointing end to his reign :(

4/10.

The Menu (2022) - 8/10

The absurdity of the situation makes for some deliciously dark comedy complemented by the knowledge there are places like this in existence (although hopefully not to the extent shown).

The plot constantly plays mind games with the characters and the audience and although it’s not as shocking or disturbing as it could have been, it’s still very effectively done.

Crafted with plenty of style, strong acting, music and design, its taste lingers afterwards and makes for a wickedly entertaining evening, even though you can clearly see how it’s going to all play out long before the end.

Looks good that! Added to watch :-) Anya Taylor-Joy is easy on the eye.

Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical (2022) - 6/10

A highly likeable musical with all the songs, sets and scenes you would expect and a simple but strong moral story.

The story does get pretty dark at times and the tone is a bit all over the place, but all of the lead characters, especially the villain, are great and each get their own song.

It wasn’t as comical as I was expecting and the songs aren’t as memorably catchy as I would have wanted, but there are a couple of great production numbers and overall, it looks impressive.
