What film did you watch last night?

Its more based on the game than directly related to the cartoon.

Also the film while not great was a million times better than the Dumgeons and Dragons movie released in early 2000s.
So much this.
A lot of negative reviews are people who haven't played the game and compare it to old screen content.

Its so much like the game. Which is why I loved it.

Asteroid City 3/10

Couldn't get on with it at all. Not that I don't like Wes Anderson films, The Life Aquatic is a charming little film IMO. Found AC very boring. A few likeable moments but on the whole a nope from me.

GF was convinced it was deliberately bad as a comment that you can make a bad film with an excellent cast. :)
Was thinking about watching this but might not bother now :D

Same. I watched about 1/2 hour of it before I switched it off as I was just bored silly.

I tried watching The Ruins a month or so ago.. I think I lasted about 15 minutes before boredom got the better of me.

Watch the last Bill & Ted recently. You can pass and you'll get back some life.

Sort of lost faith in most of the Hollywood films to be honest.

Joker

Felt much the same about it as I did the first time. Just get nothing from it I'm afraid. It's broad, tepid and really quite poorly written in places. The screenplay is just so weird and the dialogue really does it all it can to make what should have been a truly great, all time performance simply good. What annoys me most is how it so badly wants to emulate better movies before it without ever trying to be anything more then the sum of it's parts. It really is just a poor mans Taxi Driver which is fine I suppose, but it feels like it should have played out better.

OST is on point though, I'll give it that.

Jolt (Amazon Prime). Comedy/Action movie with nothing i found funny. Lasted 20 mins. Only lasted that long because Kate Beckinsdale is in it, how does she look that good at 50?

A Haunting in Venice (2023) - 6/10

Another solid murder mystery with a darker tone but the supernatural horror and obvious jump scares made it less entertaining somehow.

The characters were ok and with good performances but none really stood out and although there was some drama, it was mostly plain and with few thrills.

The choice in camera angles, sloppy editing in some scenes and dark, confined setting made it look and feel cheap.

Venom (2018) - 7/10

Enjoyed this movie much more than I thought I would - was expecting a serious action movie but Tom's performance was hilarious at times.

Action was decent and the Dolby Atmos soundtrack was firing on all cylinders :)

Watched the Equaliser trilogy over the last few days with third at the cinema last night.

I like the first two films, more than enough to have watched them two or three times.

The third film, however, is easily the weakest of the three for me. There's a lot less action than the first two films and even less of Denzel. It also feels like I went to see a foreign language film, as it's set in Italy, and most of the dialogue is in Italian with subtitles.

I'd happily give the first two films 6.5/10 but the third installment is a 4/10 for me. I doubt I'll watch it again when it comes to streaming or physical media.

JUNG_E (2023) - 6/10

A personal and emotionally driven story of android life - what it is to be human, human rights and how they react when they find out they aren’t human.

Nothing truly new is covered, but the story is well told and the characters are good, even if all the men come across as silly and all the women come across as sensible.

The fantastical futuristic setting looks impressive and the brief and infrequent action scenes are fast paced and exhilarating, although the CGI does look a bit cartoony in places.
