What film did you watch last night?

The Royal Hotel. I don’t know what I just watched but I liked it. Most of that may have been down to Jessica Yu Li Henwick.

Crooked House (2008)

The month of ghosts and ghouls so I would watch a good old ghost story. Produced by Mark Gatiss, three short stories in a similar vein to the masterly ghost writer MR James.

This was recommended to me a while ago by an OCUK member and I always meant to watch but wasn't sure where! Just last night I discovered it was on Amazon Prime - cool. :)

Doesn't disappoint if you like spooky tales.

Aliens for about the fiftieth time, this time the directors cut in 4k. I'm going to give this 9/10.

I don't throw this score around lightly, but this film is an utter masterpiece. Strong female characters done right. Diversity in there too, all great characters. Disney take note. What a film.

No crappy CGI, all done with practical effects, and it still looks great, 37 years later.

One of the greatest films of all time.
Where is Aliens out in 4k?

Raging Bull

The main character was so unlikeable that I struggled with this one. Someone said the violence was hard to watch I thought they meant the boxing not the domestic violence.

I'll have to disagree, I thought Blade 2 was a solid sequel. It didn't retread the same ground, expanded and improved some of what had come before and had some fairly decent performances throughout.
Agreed, Blade 2 was a little different tonally but it did a lot of things right, the enemy was great and had some good casting. Some of the CGI is a little dodgy in places but 1 is the same (remember the blood drop?) and it's just a thing with films of that time. Such a shame they never built on it and made any more Blade films after that...

Mmm - I know what you mean and largely agree, but there’s a slightly awkward (by modern standards) bit of trivia which I didn’t know until recently: Vasquez, the memorable tough Latino woman, is actually a white person in make-up.

Nobody can deny that the actress did a damn good job and it’s otherwise such a good example of a decent strong female character.

Doesn’t take away from the film being good etc. but it’s a side note worth mentioning in the context of championing the otherwise great diversity and characters in Aliens (in case some people weren’t aware).

I see what you did there :D

Glad you mentioned the CGI in the first as the Deacon blood god scene at the end hurts my eyes.

Hmm, good point, didn't realise that!

Apone is a great character though, love him. He should have got more screen time.
