What film did you watch last night?

The Crow (2024) - 4/10

It’s slow and pretty boring at the start but it picks up in the second half once the bloody and brutal rampage of revenge kicks off.

The lead actor looked the part and the supernaturally dark imagery was good, but the rest was nothing special with a straightforward plot and traditional villains.

Toy Story Quadrilogy - 5/5

Toy Story 3 is still my favourite, very closely followed by Toy Story 2. I don't think Toy Story 1 has aged particularly well, although the story's stil fantastic, and Toy Story 4, while brilliant, didn't quite hit the level of the previous 3 films, maybe becasue it was mainly focused on Woody.

Strangers on a Train (1951) - 8/10

Extremely dated in every way and it’s a rather fantastical method of turning the hypothetical into practice, but it’s still an effective thriller.

The tension and drama builds as he becomes trapped through blackmail and the unhinged stalker element is very well done with great acting.

The music adds to every scene it's in and whilst the ending is ridiculously silly and a bit drawn out, it’s a memorable finale.

American Pie (1999)

Never did see the it the first time around.

I thought I had, but I would have remembered the scene with the girl and the webcam.

I enjoyed it, couple of bits did make me laugh, good looking actresses, pretty light hearted, got a bit gay at the end. Was probably better 25 years ago and if you were a teenager I guess.

6/10

Inside Out 2 (2024)

Our granddaughter came to stay over last night and she wanted to watch it. My wife and I hadn't seen the first one, but it's not really required.

I haven't seen any recent Pixar films and this didn't seem to have the quality of something like Toy story or The Incredibles, but perfectly watchable with a 7 year old.

I'm not quite sure who the film is aimed at though, with the main character starting to go through puberty.

Not exactly something an 7 year old would be interested in, or probably understand. Given it's a coming of age film, do older children and young teenagers even watch this style of animated film?

It's just a bit of a weird, mixing that subject with a cute animation style.

But what do I know, seeing as it's the highest grossing Pixar film ever.

5/10 for me
9/10 for my granddaughter

Watched Triple 9 last night. Loved the opening bank heist, unfortunately the film lost momentum after this. Great cast but didn't translate into a great film. Didn't like Kate Winslet as a russian gangster and I just can't gel with Anthony Mackie. 5/10.

Alien: Romulous

If you leave your brain at the popcorn counter it's a fun sci-fi thriller. If you engage your brain it has a paper-thin plot, plot holes the size of Acheron and does not further the canon in any meaningful way.

6/10

I'd probably rate them in this order:
Alien 9/10
Aliens 9/10
Alien 3 6/10
Prometheus 6/10
Resurrection 5/10
Covenant 5/10
Romulus N/A not seen yet

For me

Alien - 7.5/10...looses impact on subsequent viewings hence the 7.5
Aliens - 9/10
Alien 3 - 7.5/10
Prometheus - 6/10
Resurrection - can't remember
Covanent - can't remember

Longlegs https://www.imdb.com/title/tt23468450/

Quite slow to get going, though the subject of the film kept me curious,
so I was content to carry on with it.

Personally, I think it got better as it progressed,
though I'm referring to the half-way to two-thirds mark, so rather late.

There are some brief but quite disturbing moments in it, with Nicolas Cage's costume/make-up being one of them.[/SPOLIER]
