What film did you watch last night?

Watched The Creator yesterday.

Not to bad, but got a bit bored in places.

Was expecting the main guy to slide down the outside of the wreckage like Khan at the end. :D

The Count of Monte-Cristo (2024) - 9/10

A captivating story of subterfuge, revenge, justice and unrequited love. It’s enjoyable to watch thanks to the rousing classical soundtrack, the superbly opulent settings, beautiful scenery and authentic looking period style.

The strong acting performances, dramatic action scenes and stylish camerawork made the long run time fly by.

Although the story is told over a long period, the characters didn’t really age (making this a timeless classic?) and the ending, whilst just, still felt a bit anticlimactic.

Star Wars - A New Hope

At the cinema on a very big screen.

Amazing and loved every minute of it. Seeing the sets and customs on a massive screen was fantastic!

Was the extended new version or the original screening?

Despite its shortcomings mentioned below, I quite enjoyed this.
I found the scene switching a pleasant surprise and, as said, overall,
it did keep me interested (and guessing) throughout. Not bad at all.

A disappointing end sequence. Four/five things that stood out for me:
1, the timing of the black guy being murdered by the 'old woman' was laughably cheesy;
2, due to the stress, the guy may well have dropped the gun, but it seemed too predictable an outcome;
3, there's little to no chance, IMO, that the woman would have survived that fall (but maybe);
4, if she did survive, there's even less chance that she would have got up and walked/hobbled away;
5, this last one is less of a negative, but more out of curiosity… what was the relevance of the guy that faked his way into the young woman's home?
I wondered if he was a younger version of the guy in the bed?

Seen it before, but figured I'd check it out once more.
A decent film, IMO, but underdelivered somewhat.
I found the relationships between Finney/Gwen and Finney/Robin/Bruce
to be among the more memorable elements. Quite touching, at times.

I thought I recognised the actor who played Finney/Gwen's father, Terrence.
It was Jeremy Davies - who acted as Corporal Upham in Saving Private Ryan.

Promising Young Woman

Thoroughly enjoyed this, started very uncomfortably but got into its stride quite quickly.

Some nice twists and turns, and whilst bits of it were predictable, not everything was.

Great cast who did a very good job, and a satisfying ending :)

Civil War, 9/10.

Great movies and totally not what I was expecting, and so much better for it. Some of the film shots were brilliant in places and really did a good job of showing you what’s going on around what you’re seeing on camera.

Terminator 2 at Odeon last night. Absolutely brilliant on the big screen. I've probably seen it 20+ times over the years as kid on TV and VHS at home but seeing at cinema was like ace. Was grinning ear to ear so many times watch all those iconic scenes and one liners!
I saw this in the cinema on release in '91, and it blew me away. One film I watched a lot on VHS, and then finally got to see on the big screen was Robocop, and it was fab too.

The Terminator 2 - Judgement Day. Absolutely brilliant. What an amazing sequel. It was always hard to live up to these 2 movies from James Cameron. Little wonder the Terminator franchise has never been able to produce a worthy sequel that has come close to the success of these 2. It was a surprise showing and only on 1 night in 1 place at 1 time. So had to make the 100 mile round trip to catch it. It was well worth it. 9/10.

Keep it up. Nothing beats watching these glorious movies on the big screen how they first aired. Even if you just manage to catch a fraction of the magic of when they first came out it’s well worth it.

Deadpool & Wolverine. National Cinema Day so £4 a ticket and the screen was packed. As tickets were so cheap everyone was buying snacks. Maybe the cinemas will comprehend that.
Great film though. I've purposely avoided spoilers so many of the surprise elements were a joy. The proposed new wolverine was a fantastic idea. My wife was 100% onboard with that one.
I did love some of the in-jokes in the credits too. Nice to see "Truthful Timmy..." in there, for example. :cry:
