What film did you watch last night?

Prey (2022) - 8/10

A different setting for the franchise which looks and feels authentic enough plus has some impressive scenery and special effects.

The plot is simple and the ideas are clearly shown; the lead character felt a bit too capable overall, but the acting was good and they were likeable.

The action scenes were entertaining, even if the violence was toned down a bit, and the atmosphere and tension builds up quite nicely once the hunt truly begins.

Some humour towards the end, but the finale was a bit ridiculous.

The Killers Game (2024)

Starring Dave Batista, who looks ridiculous in this. The man is 55 and the tanning beds have not been kind to his skin over the years, so he's a odd colour and his skin it like an old leathery hand bag.

I'm sure I saw him in an interview state he would like this to kick off a series of movies like John Wick did for Keanu, but this bombed hard ($30 million budget, made $5 million Worldwide!)

I'm not surprised. It doesn't know what genre it wants to be. It starts like a weird romantic comedy but the leads don't really have any chemistry, but then has cartoonish violence but with really gory (CGI blood) kills.

Ben Kingsley does a weird accent as his friend/contractor, and Alex Kingston pops up as his wife, making out of nowhere anal sex gags. They also have two Scottish assassins who they subtitle for some reason. And towards the end Dylan Moran pops up as a Catholic priest who I think was supposed to be funny, but didn't work either.

4/10.

puppet master 2 - good. but would really benefit from better music

strange darling - really good - i recommend this one.

The Dead Don't Hurt (2024) 5/10

Western. I grabbed the popcorn and settled back thinking this was going to be good! Viggo Mortensen stars as a small-town sheriff in a corrupt town; I was expecting something like Unforgiven or Pale Rider.

Viggo has starred in some of my all-time favourite films, sadly this one isn't for me. It's got great vistas, the story and all makes sense, but I want Tombstone levels of action in my westerns. :D

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice finally appeared (non cam) , was decent although thought it went on to long and it wouldn't be something I'd want to watch again like the original on occasion, original is 9/10, this is 6/10

I watched the Crazies again, havent seen it for about a decade but I fancied a little late night zombie-esque fun, plus it has Timothy Olyphant in it. Considering some of the stuff he has done, most notably Deadwood and Justified, I'm amazed he hasnt won a major award.

(Talking of Justified, the same can be said of Walter Goggins)

Terrifier 3 - Love or loathe it film. If you like the first 2 then you will find entertainment in it. If you don't you will hate it.

I'd say 7-10 people of the 50 in the preview showing tonight walked out after 10-15 mins.

Cash on Demand (1946)

Continuing my trawl through old b/w movies of the 40's 50's & 60's
really enjoyed this one, & one I'd not heard of before, staring Peter Cushing (not in a horror film!)
