What film did you watch last night?

The Wailing (Korean Horror - bought on Apple Store)

Bumbling cop tries to solve the mystery of a series of strange happenings and murders in his hometown.

Very mixed feelings on this. It’s tonally inconsistent; tongue in cheek at times, serious and somber in others. It’s unnecessarily long but picks up with decent suspense in the closing act, even if how it wraps up is a little underwhelming.

An intriguing journey but nothing more.

5.5/10

10/10 for me. One of the best.

The Substance - 7/10.

I actually really liked this on the whole. I felt the last 15-20 mins didn’t work, but the last minute or so did.
Also, I’ll have to go back and study the first half’s Margaret Qualley sections, purely for research purposes and fully understanding the story… ahem.

Starlet 2012.

A Sean Baker film, that once again focuses on the lives of sex workers. In this case a young adult film star befriends a woman in her 80's after finding a cache of hidden bills in an item purchased at yard sale. It's very funny and poignant and feels very real. Note if you are watching with a significant other or anyone under 18 it's quite graphic for one scene in the middle of movie. Still it's actually a very sweet film. 10/10

(Ziggy from the Wire S2 is in it as well!)

Blast from the past (1999) - Saw a clip on TikTok and wondered why I had missed it and never heard of it before, plan to watch it tonight

How did you watch it twice, were you being interrogated?
I watched it when it was relatively new and then a couple of years ago.

I think I've probably watched a lot of films I didn't get or like the first time and re watched them years later. Sometimes I change my opinion and other times I don't.

I can also watch films that I may not find as entertaining, but still enjoy the technical achievement, the acting, the score or whatever else

There's plenty of films I've really enjoyed first time and then years later re watched and been disappointed.

I actually liked this, found it a bit creepy though.
I watched some bloke on YouTube talk about how good the book is on YouTube and though I watched the film when it first came up and thought it was rubbish I decided to give it another go as I couldn’t remember it.

Tootsie (1982)

Strange that at my age I've never seen this, I remember it being a big film at the time. But a 13 year old me wouldn't have wasted a rare cinema visit on this type of film.

Despite it's age, I found it an enjoyable watch and quite funny in places.

7/10

Arthur ( original ) - loved this when I was younger, lost a bit of it's charm now I'm a lot older but still enjoy watching Dudley Moore.

Fellowship of the Ring ( BR extended 4k ) - few days off work so thought I'd revisit the trilogy. Nothing really to add , an epic film on an epic scale. CGI is starting to look ropey in some scenes mind you but all is forgiven considering it's age.
