What film did you watch last night?

Guardians Vol 2 - 6.5 outta 10

Not as good as the first as a few too many plot threads and characters to cover this time plus
I'm just plain confused as to how powerful different factions are, the gold people were the initial threat but surely they're no match for a Celestial yet on Ego's own planet he is unable to control pretty much anything that happens all too conveniently. And where does Thanos fit in on the power scale compared to Ego? Also didn't really like the 'I loved your mother......I put the tumor in her head because......no real reason. Was also expecting at least one of the many end credit scenes to indicate the Guardians heading for Earth or some such, and Sly just seemed unnecessary unless he is now going to be a Marvel regular or at least in Vol 3.

It did keep me entertained throughout and had some great comedic lines
Rocket being a Trash Panda got the biggest laugh from me
but there were also a few too many one liners that felt a bit forced and unnecessary. Soundtrack was ok but not a patch on the first imo.

Traders (2016) - 7.5/10 On Amazon Prime

Hadn't seen it on Amazon before but had good reviews, was pleasantly surprised. Irish made film. Basic plot is after he loses his job at a big investment firm a man is approached by his colleague (Samwell Tarley of GoT) about an idea he has for 'Trading' where a person sells all their assets for cash and using the dark web website his colleague created and following a strict set of rules they meet with another person willing to offer the same amount of money, go to a random location and fight to the death. Not some cheesy martial arts fare but just people who need the money and are willing to kill for it. Worth a watch.

Will also mention 'Triangle' mentioned above as well 7/10. Good little backwards, what the hell is going on movie with a decent pace and ending.

Elysium - 7/10

Didn't really like it when I first saw it when released but watched it on Netflix today and it was enjoyable. Blomkamp has fairly limited range imo but what he does he does from good to really good. It's nothing amazing but entertaining, well paced and I always enjoy Sharlto Copley especially as a villain.

Okja on Netflix - 7/10

Tonally quite inconsistent, it starts at as more of a comedy but has some really dark parts to it. Overall though was very entertaining and quite emotional, well acted by all involved and very good CGI. Maybe slightly too long buy only by 15 minutes or so.

Jennifers Body - 5/10

Awful dialogue, so cringe worthy, film is all over the place but I liked the theme's and Adam Brody was funny for his limited screentime but that kiss...

Robocop (Original) - 8/10

Saw the 'Making of' popped up on YouTube and hadn't watched it in years, still very well done despite the age.

Jaws - 10/10

I think i've finally seen it enough times (10+) to not find it as terrifying anymore but its still such a well put together film it really has no equal in the entire thriller/horror genre to me.

Wer (2014) - 7.5/10

Very unique werewolf/wolfman movie. Ending goes off a little but is still alright but the rest of the movie I thought was a very interesting take on the genre and i've seen a lot of them. Definitely worth a watch.

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight on UHD.

Batman Begins is good but have always preferred The Dark Knight (even though I was never too keen on the Two Face part of it it does tie itself into Rises so I accept it).

Begins looks very good in 4K but The Dark Knight is a whole other level, it looked absolutely amazing especially the IMAX scenes and still has some of the best action sequences I can remember, the truck flip scene in particular has always stood out to me.

Begins - 8/10
TDK - 9.5/10

Both are well worth the 4K release, TDK especially. Will watch Rises at some point but I actually watched it in December prior to the 4K release so need to give it a little more time as it was always my weakest of the 3 (but still good 7/10).

Wer (2013/14) - 6.5 to 7/10 as a movie, 9/10 as a monster/werewolf movie.

Ending didn't quite match up to what preceeded it but very good, original and interesting take on the Werewolf genre. Highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the monster genre as don't think i've ever heard anyone else mention it.

Death Becomes Her - Saw this on Amazon last night and hadn't watched it since I was little. Definitely picked up on things better as you do when you're older. Was still pretty good, good dark humour and was nice to see Bruce Willis acting so against type, especially considering what he does now. Some of it has definitely aged poorly but not enough to ruin it. 6/10

How it Ends - 6/10

On Netflix, well acted but ultimately didn't really go anywhere. Some good visuals throughout.

American Assassin - 7/10

Also on Netflix, was surprisingly decent. Not the best of this genre or anything but lead actor was quite impressive (especially as he was on the Teen Wolf TV series!). Michael Keaton was enjoyable and the action was well done. Opening scene drew me in as felt realistic, or as realistic as I would imagine that kind of situation to be. Villain was a bit meh but hope there is a sequel.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Pants on head/10

Managed to watch 10 mins (incidentally the same time I lasted in Indy 4 - Aliens?! Edition.)

Concluded this film is just not for me; nor for anyone who hasn't recently suffered massive head trauma.

Love these type of reviews. Barely watches any of the movie and assumes anyone who likes it is mentally disabled in some way.

Bravo sir.

Well this kicked off a bit more since I last looked lol

My point wasn't exactly what others have been saying. I can understand deciding a movie is not for you after 10-15 minutes - although I would question the fact that you are watching Mission Impossible 4 so assume you liked 1, 2 and 3 and 4 just seemed so different to you?

My point which everyone seems to have skimmed was aside from the lack of anything meaningful to say about the movie you declared anyone who does like it as someone having brain damage?? That's certainly a high horse to be on. Especially when MI4 is sitting at 7.4 on IMDB and RT of 93% of critics so a lot of people liked it but they all have brain damage according to you?

Yeah, even though I was the one who originally challenged the comment lets just leave it there, is getting pointless now.

Back on topic I watched the Batman v Superman Ultimate 4k cut last night. 6/10.

It will get a couple of points just because it has Batman and Superman and of course Wonder Woman but a lot of film I found myself wanting to skip through. I didn't hate Jesse Eisenbergs Luthor portrayal initially until he goes too far with the erratic speak, gods this, gods that. Think the film was about 3 hours long but there was about 1 hour to an hour and a half of entertaining content. Certainly made me appreciate the Superman portrayal in Justice League more even though that film is far from perfect.

In 4k some scenes looked fantastic but some just had far too much grain that it really detracted.

Blade Runner Final Cut - 6.5/10

Sorry to all the mega fans but whilst this is a fantastic looking film even now, let alone 1982 and had some great ideas, the characters are fairly thin, mixed with some hammy acting and just not as much depth for me as people seem to pull from it in all the fan reviews and breakdowns I have read. It also moves at a snails pace. The setting and ideas are great but the execution of the story wasn't the best.

Blade Runner 2049 - 9/10

Takes the fantastic setting and visuals, updates them and actually adds character depth and a nicely paced story. Brilliant score (although the originals is still fairly good its definitely more 'of its time'). Doesn't hold your hand throughout and just found it much more absorbing. Jared Leto's character could have been more fleshed out but still made an impression with his limited screen time.

Both watched in 4k. Blade Runner looked very nice in some scenes although others showed its age a fair bit more whereas 2049 just looked amazing throughout.

Hereditary - 8/10

Could be trimmed a bit but very well executed re cinematography, sound and acting. Liked the ending and a lot to dissect and think about. Makes everything you saw previously take on a whole new meaning.

Hold the Dark on Netflix - 6.5/10

Beautiful cinematography and good performances all round but it all added up to not much for me. Story just wasn't there and considering the film's length the ending left a lot to be desired.

Halloween (2018) - 7/10

The original is my favourite slasher film so was looking forward to this. My only concern after seeing the glowing early reviews was how much can you really do with a slasher film nowadays unless they were gonna go supernatural like the originals dire sequels. Luckily they didn't but as per my initial thoughts there isn't too much you can do to really make it interesting.

However, it was well made, great score, good acting throughout, well written (aside from one point
the 'New Loomis' turn was just silly as there was no payoff - I assume he caused the crash that let my Michael out but it's never said
) and was nice and brutal, gory in some places but nothing compared to most films that really go for that factor. Wasn't that suspenseful but pacing was good although a slower start than some might expect.

It doesn't re-write the genre or anything but its just a really well made film and well worth seeing if you just want a good time.
