Dredd

Wasn't expecting it to be my cup of tea, but I really enjoyed it! The storyline what somewhat lacking in depth... but in all I thought they pulled it off very well.

Refreshingly violent and adult focused.

Solid 8/10

The Hunger games - 3/10 (no idea how it has 7.3 on IMDB)

Wish i'd have read the books now :(. Just seemed like a Disney version of Battle Royale.

Resident Evil : Retribution

Quality film, great action and special effects with a solid story too.

Haha who am I kidding, absolute rubbish film probably the worst I've seen this year, utter pony from start to finish :p

:D I have yet to see the last two films as i just knew they would be awful. It's a shame as the first actually had a bit of promise, then they got wrose and worse. I saw a screenshot of one of the zombies from the latest film and they aren't even pretending to try any more :p. The games are going the same way sadly.

Watched the new Total Recall - was actually quite impressed with it and enjoyed the changes in storyline to the original. The tech was pretty cool, especially the surveillance 'weapon' in the Recall treatment room - nice touch.

Didn't come across as a straight modernisation of the original but gave plenty of nods to the classic. I don't think you can beat the original for what it was but it's a fair attempt IMO.

8.5/10 - one of those films I'd actually quite happily watch again after just finishing it.

Agree with you entirely on recall. I was dreading seeing it, the original had such sigma with the arnie verhoeven combo double, the perfect pitch that couldn't be matched if you saw it in the time and day.

Well happy the way it worked out, the new film with the nods and the ace tech.

Speaking of head in the clouded past, i wanted starwars last night.. i choose IV Jedi.. as good as ever:)

Did you guys not find the nods to the original film more than a little erm, 'unsubtle' shall we say?
Take away the great effects and what were you left with?

Imo, they could've made an entirely fresh scifi movie with these visuals without having to rely on the cash in value of the Total Recall name.

Just my take, glad you enjoyed it :)

I do know what you mean but what can I say, I enjoyed it. Not the biggest Colin Farrell fan but I must admit he wasn't bad in this film.

Take away the great effects in most films and you're often not left with much, sadly.

I found the scenario much more believable than the original - i.e. part of UK/Europe and Australia only habitable place on earth vs. Earth/Mars.

Of course there were weaknesses in the storyline and things I would have rather seen done differently (ending was a little poor IMO) but on a whole I thought it was a good job done.

Yeah, the scenario was more believable, but then Mars wasn't even in the original story so I guess this remake is the more authentic version if not the most enjoyable. How much of that is down to the Arnie factor is debatable :D
I guess I'd have liked it a lot more if I wasn't such a big fan of the original.

Ending was poor I'll agree. What the hell was her continuing motivation amongst other things? I'll say no more due to spoilers and stuff ;)
It's the 'Cursed earth' scenario along with the cityscape that makes me wish this had been the Dredd movie instead...

I guess it was a bit too 'iRobot' for me if that makes sense.

Ted - 6/10

I think it was a bit overhyped so I was a bit disappointed by it. The acting from everyone bar Wahlberg wasn't great either.

Totally agree.

Definitely a couple of laugh out loud moments, but I was continually distracted by the writing style of Seth McFarlane. It was like watching a live action Family Guy, which isn't as fun as it may sound.

How weird, I thought EXACTLY the same about Dredd - I thought the wrong DVD had been put in the case initially.

Also watched Skyfall - really liked it, although not as good as Casino I was most definitely better than QoS.

Loads of people were talking about a big twist at the end but I thought the ending was very predictable but there again that is what Bond films are about - you know he's going to get out of every scrape and carry on.

7/10
