Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

Not sure I like the new car much, will need to see one in the metal to judge though! Rear looks good but the front....hmm.

On a frustrated note...good news is I'm getting stage 3 mountune fitted tomorrow, on the bad side my clutch is playing up again and I have got to drive from Essex to Wolverhampton when its done - I am going to have to pay to get the box removed and the slave cylinder looked at I think.. :(.

Stage 3 mountune = sweeeeeet! :D Will post more tomorrow about it, but the sound, oh my! The induction noise is much more obvious.

As for my clutch issues, well the mountune guys bled my clutch and said loads of air came out. They said it may not have been bled properly when the garage replaced my master cylinder. For the drive back, a traffic filled 4 hour slightly around the m25, m1 and m6, it never missed a beat so I'm hoping its sorted! Mountune did impress me with their service, a very serious and professional outfit as is clear from the premises! They did not charge me anything for looking at the clutch issue.

Does the stage 3 really make a massive difference to justify its price? it's around £3000 isn't it?
I'm possible looking at the 165Upgrade just because i want to change something.

Does anyone know if the remote windows work on the ST? when you hold the unlock button and they open, hold lock button and they close. It works on my mates 98Ford focus but don't seem to have it on my fiesta st.

well, £3000 is a lot to splash out in one hit, but for 50extra BHP it would totally transform the car.

Stage2 is probably the best value for money (i would say that i have it.. lol) 165 costs a lot when a extra £600 gives you 20bhp more.

Fiesta ST doesnt have remote windows, only some with aftermarket alarm systems will have that.

Stage 3 Mountune

Thought I'd post my thoughts on the stage 3 upgrade via Mountune having driven around a bit more today. I had it fitted yesterday at Mountune HQ (a very impressive facility), it took around 4 hours to fit everything and test drive it.

I am glad I was not the first to have it fitted as the initial map was not as good and ran a little lean at the top end, but I had the revised 'Cal 2' map which cures the fuelling issues and changes other parameters slightly, and is maybe 2-3bhp more powerful. Mountune are now very confident it will make 200bhp on most rollers, I was told to expect between 200 and 206 as the norm, so its going to be a pretty quick car when finished.

I am upgrading from the stage 2 Mountune package, which is the 185bhp package consisting of upgraded exhaust (manifold, cat and cat back), valve springs, cams, induction kit and a remap to suit.

Stage 3 adds to these existing parts cast aluminium high flow inlet manifold, a larger 60mm diameter throttle body, and another remap, bringing a claimed 200bhp.

It makes the car a lot easier to drive slowly for a start, at low engine speeds in low gears there was always a bit of a hesitancy and jerkiness to the throttle action at times with the 185 kit. Pick up from low revs seems less laboured if you're in a higher car and the engine as a whole seems to rev more freely and feels smoother. You don't need to change down so often and its much more relaxed around town. Cruising in traffic at 30mph in fifth seems a lot more comfortable and responsive. I feel the apparent increase in smoothness to the engine is because the metal inlet vibrates and hums less easily than the standard plastic item - one can't deny the ST has a pretty buzzy engine at high revs, and sounds a bit coarse, but this goes a hell of a long way to helping things!

It gives the car a much much more prominent induction sound, a proper growl at larger throttle openings, a real head turner as it sounds almost like throttle bodies, I had people turning round from 30 yards away when I booted it on a dual carriageway from 30mph in fourth, even at low speeds if you give it some throttle it really growls. I cannot explain how big a grin I had when I first floored it in third :D.

The torque seems better lower down and in the mid range, giving much greater pull. The stage 2 kit was very peaky and 'cammy' in its power delivery, and it was easy to be caught in the wrong gear and have to change down. Stage 3 seems smoother with a less pronounced step when the cams start to work, but it pulls harder and faster to the limiter in each gear.

Down sides...it is expensive for what it is, as an ST owner if I had a standard car I feel I'd be hard pushed to spend £3k on a car now given how little they are worth. I already had the 185 kit and figured for my car + £1k I was unlikely to get a much better hot hatch than mine given all the other mods, so it made sense. It is also a fairly rough looking casting and is not painted/coated in any way, it does not look anywhere near as smart as the Cosworth inlet manifold although as this is purpose made for the 2.0 engine this is a better item from a performance point of view for naturally aspirated applications. A proper coat of paint may help the appearance somewhat if you are fussy but I havent bothered.

Overall though...I recommend it, the sound is really something a bit different from the norm and leaves you with a car thats probably a bit faster and a lot more characterful than say, a newer Clio 200.

Anyone with aftermarket exhausts, what have you got? i'm wanting a noisier exhaust and was looking at THIS. Looking to fit it myself if that's not too hard to do.
Only thing is i don't want it to be too loud as i drive at night quite a lot, but i do want to notice it more than the standard one.

Not too sure what i need for more noise, would just the back-box do it? i've got the K&N 57I so a bit of noise up front.
What should i do?

I was a bit disappointed with the sound of just a cat back exhaust to be honest (I had the mountune one before I upgraded to the full stage 3 setup). It added volume but not an especially nice tone! The full mountune exhaust really sings but I was a bit unimpressed by the cat backs sound when mated to a standard system.

If you want something discrete for town/night driving I would get the resonated cat back miltek system, its only really louder when you floor it. If you can stretch to it then a larger bore flexi pipe makes the car a bit louder and also feels a little less strangled.

On a side note, my car is broken again, barely made it back from castle combe today, clutch problem has reappeared, going to be a gearbox out job so I best bend over and grab some lube :(

The box itself is fine, the behaviour of the clutch pedal suggests it is a hydraulic problem. Master cylinder has already been changed so it has to be the combined slave cylinder/release bearing.

Jamsport (who fitted my diff along with a new slave cylinder and Helix clutch in march) have been fantastically unhelpful with resolving the issue and given their location and the car now being undrivable its got to go to the local garage who did the master cylinder.

The slave cylinder is around £70, so not the end of the world, but the labour to take the box out is going to be a fair amount, and the killer is that if the slave has leaked fluid onto the clutch the contamination will result in greatly increased clutch wear....so Id be well advised to put a new clutch in at nearly £300!

I have a sportex catback and its very loud. Cant say anything about if it has gave me any power or owt like that as I havent RR it yet.
