Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

What do we recommend brake wise on the STs? Mine will need doing in the near future, currently on the standard pads and discs. Only looking to change the front (is this wise?) not looking to spend a fortune, I've looked at the 300mm upgrade but I will stick to the normal 280mm size for the time being. So, any recommendations?

Was looking at EBC Ultimax discs and pads, can get them for £157 for both at Rude Racing.

Get pagid, about £155 for the front pair with pagid pads which are about £50.

i have pagid all around and when they are warmed up they are lethal on the ST.

Edit: if you do look into these me sure you are looking at the right ones as everyone seems to bring up £17 pagid disks what are 158mm and for the standard fiesta.

Any idea where you got them from? Having a look now but can't see them, cheers :)

EDIT: Found them!

I do a lot of A road dual carriageway driving during the week so I'm not sure how hot they would get under normal driving, how good are they under normal driving conditions?

I do 350-400 miles a week with my job and they do fine, they are as good as the standard ST disks with light driving but a lot better under heavy driving (bit of hooning)... track guys swear by them aswell.

Is it different with disks over drums?

Yeah, the disks are much easier. you don't have to touch the hub nut, just remove the 4 bolts which bolt the hub to the beam and it's off.

Drums, like you said, you need to remove the hub nut and drum so you can lineup the hub or something.

I've got Pagid blues on the front with standard disks and they are brilliant IMO. Better than I thought they would be after coming from 8 pots.

Right. Definitely just getting axle spacers then! Was nearly going to just buy hubcentrics out of ease but with only having to remove the disk break that's pretty easy.

Will take 30mins each side tops.. In fact if you get a mate to help you you don't really need to take the disk off. Just undo the four rear bolts, the 8mm ABS bolt to disconnect the abs sensor and have your mate hold the caliper/disk/hub assembly while you offer the spacer into position and bolt it all back up.

You need to cut a small notch out of the spacer due to the ABS sensor - http://www.part-box.com/images/Modified-Spacer-for-ABS-Mk6-Fiesta.jpg - but you can simply file this away.

Much better than hub centric spacers :)

Urgh.

Tried to fit my coilovers today and did the rears and got the dampers out of the fronts. Only issue now is that I can't get the top mounts off to swap over.

Going to see if I can take them to a garage and see if they can switch them over to the APs. Mate of mine seems to think they wouldnt do that simple task for me?

Sad time for me :( My ST goes on Friday :( I was going to replace it with a cliosport but the cost was too much, maybe another time. Its replacement? a 2011 Zetec S in vison blue :D

Pics when I pick it up on Friday

Nice!

Will probably replace my ST with one of those in a few years.

i had the same issue. Really annoying that something so simple stops you, after you've totally taken your car apart lol.

You need either a really tightly angled and deep ring spanner to undo the nut, or something like the halfords vortex socket set (which I had to panic purchase to fit my suspension when I did it the first time around). It is annoying though!

Annoyingly the the hole for the Allen key on the damper is pretty rusted and will most likely wring off so I may be forced to use a impact wrench...

Is there anyway to get that nut off without an impact wrench and only using a socket without the Allen key?

Edit - I don't mind buying tool as I'm going to use them again and they're nice to have! :-P

Got a mate round today with a few more tools at trying to give the shocks another go and failed. Ended up taking both setups to the Ford dealer where a family member works and left them with him to see if they can switch the top mounts on them tomorrow.

The nuts and thread are so rusted and i think any force on that allen key hole will just wring off.

How much are new top mounts out of interest? Might be worth buying some new ones if they are cheap?

Genuine top mounts are £30-35 if I recall.

Does that include the bearing?

Also, out of interest do these top mount have to sit in a particular way when I'm reassembling? There was a little nubbin on one side of the top mount. does that have to point in a particular direction?
