Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

Bearing is separate, I just re-used mine each time, I had new top mount rubbers and the group N reinforcement kit fitted when I had it done the second time around though (I've had stock suspension, then Bilstein B12s, then H&R Monotube coilovers).

Anyone know how much a Mountune C.A.I.S is worth?
It's only had 4 days use and i've removed it now with new plans for the car.
Also have a spare K&N 57I i could add to it.

This isn't a sale post, just a question about price.

With the harsher ride i may now be having I'm thinking about whether to go to 16's with a larger profile.

James and Will, you guys have 16's don't you? How'd you find them. Probably just get some Zetec S rims if i can get a good price.

Can't fault them, you don't have any down sides to fitting 16's

45 profile tyre so the ride is slightly more comfy as you have more flex in the side wall, cheaper tyres too
less weight in the wheel, my 1.2s are stupidly light and I can carry one in each hand compared to my pro race 3s where I needed both hands for one (i'm a light weight though)
can go lower with the car if you wanted to

the only issues you might have is the car would look odd on anything but coilovers and there isn't as much choice in track day tyres for 16's I don't think?

Can't believe ford designed the front struts in such a way that water just soaks and rusts up the top nut

Its easier and quicker just buying brand new top mounts from Ford. Plus if you decide to change your suspension again at a later date, with them being new you shouldn't have any rusting issues :)

Good news though. My cousin is getting the dealership to do them for me if i palm them some silver. Should get them on today.

Will, are you WolvesWill on FSToc?

Will definitely look into 16's though as they seem like a better wheel size altogether.

Yes that's me Logsi, you get my pm?

16s are great, ride is better, it tramlines less, the car feels much more controlled and there is more feel through the steering wheel. You do lose a little sharpness on turn in due to the deeper sidewall but the car seems generally much more composed, nimble and progressive at the limit. The UK got 17s as standard while European spec cars had 16s as standard (with 205/45 rubber), for ford UK it was clearly a triumph of marketing over handling! You'll note the 'better handling' clio 182 wears 16s too....

I have 205/45 r16s, keeps the rolling radius as close to standard as possible. Tyres do not seem much cheaper sadly, not for decent rubber! I stuck with p zeros as I got them for £68 each, things like AD08s or michelin PE2s are still 100 quid or more! 195/45 r16 may be worth a look but not sure how this would effect the speeeo.

You do need coilovers though, I had 16s with bilstein b12s and it just didn't look low enough! Is see how you get on with the APs though, even with 17s they may be okay so long add you don't go stupidly low. Supposed to be the softest coilovers for the ST after all!

Finally got my coilovers on and got a rushed level before the light failed on me.

All i can feel like now is

First thing i said to myself though is that i need larger offset wheels. The standards look so skinny in those arches.

The ride of these APs is actually rather good and I'm pretty impressed so far. The car feels very flat and secure. The rebound and damping is pretty progressive and to the point. I can't say it's a harsh ride though as it's not really harsh at all but they do feel every bump in the road compared to standards. They don't knock and judder like the standards shocks which is a massive plus as i hated that with having such a high car. I've got the top of the tyre at the arch curve.

Overall. Very impressed and happy so far. I don't feel embarrassed driving a 4x4 now. I'm glad i did them myself as it was a great learning experience. I did have a right faff with the top mounts but it was great to learn for future reference. Only problem i have at the moment is a slight rubber rubbing sound coming from one of the front shocks. I'm thinking it may be a bit dry so will lubricate it up a bit. I plastidipped the shocks on the front to avoid corrosion and greased the hell out of the threads!

I don't understand how people go much lower than me (20mm eibachs) and don't suffer with rubbing. My drivers side wheel has been rubbing for a while now over big bumps etc :(

What is it rubbing on?

I'm being careful to hear for any rubbing. The only odd sound I'm hearing at the moment is the rubbing/"squelching" of what i think is the rubber shroud around the damper rod. I'm going to get some silicone spray to wet it up a bit. The tyre does run very close to the spring and adjustment platform though.

I'm told the backs will settle quite a lot, i'm hoping.

its rubbing on the arch liner. I took it apart and put it back on in a slightly higher position and it doesnt seem as bad now, although it still does it. It is cutting through the tread too, so it looked like my CS3's had a extra grove!

Something is seriously wrong on that side for it to be doing that, but i dont know what. The Spring is fine, the damper doesnt look like its leaking, nothing is bent because the tracking is ok. Very odd :( Oh and its that side that the CV gaiter keeps failing on, the last one (offical ford part) lasted 400miles!!

Going to look at a ST500 tomorrow, does anyone have one, what can they tell me about it?

Its in the garage at £5980, 2008, black 1 owner, 60k miles. What should i be aiming to pay?

ST500 is a limited edition, black with silver graphics, also has a slightly nicer interior with carbon effect vent rings and centre console, mechanically as standard they are identical in every way, so standard things apply as for any other ST. They also have full leather I believe, not sure on other options though! Got any links to the advert?

Price seems fair to me, slightly higher mileage than one would expect from an 08 Fiesta but the ST500 is sought after and assuming its in great condition then the price is okay I'd say.

Oh and before the dealer starts talking rubbish to try and secure a sale - every single Fiesta ST500 has badge inside that says 'ST 500 1/500', it does not mean you are looking at the first of a limited production run and thus a more valuable car, they are all 1 of 500 cars and amusingly all carry a 1/500 badge! :D

Price wise that seems fairly decent to be honest. Slightly high mileage for the year, as stated, but you may be able to haggle a couple of hundred off the dealer for it?

Yeah, that is very odd! I'm currently looking like this and no rubbing at all. Is the ARB all ok? Is the car rolling into the lining?

I'm going to be keeping an eye out on my wheels and suspension to make sure they stay in good condition and working order. Bought some silicon lubricant today so will jack it up in the next few days and take a look at the rubber damper rod shroud.

I do feel rather low at the moment and should probably put the car higher but it handles so nice on good roads and looks good in my opinion. Absolutely nightmare going around roads with speed bumps on however...

Looks smart, a little low for ny taste but much better than standard!

You got dmb gel overlays Logsi?

Yeah, was very rushed with height as light was fading. Probably going to go like a centimetre higher on the front and see how the backs settle.

Gel overlays are a must always! :p

Probably want to get it to the same as yours. Ala;

Nice bit of poke on that rear wheel also in that pic!
