Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

Just got my insurance renewal through....Greenlight seem to think I only passed my test in 2007, where as in fact I passed in 2004. The email I have had thus far does not mention any mods either, so I will ring them up to double check the renewal covers all the same mods as the existing policy, as well as informing them of the correct date when I passed my test - one hopes this would serve to reduce the premium.

But anyway, I'm 26, 4 years NCB, the car is heavily modded, with mods to engine, brakes, suspension, gearbox, and exterior....policy includes personal business usage, 8k per annum, parked on a drive in a Wolverhampton postcode, with nobody else on the policy. The bit that really matters though.....£649, not bad really? Over £150 drop from last years....

I've just insured mine through Sky Insurance. Was a bit sceptical at first with them being a relatively unknown company to me but since they are a sponsor of FSTOC forums, they must be legit. Was going to compare them against greenlight but Sky offered me what I thought was a very reasonable price and I just wanted it sorted quickly. Will probably get them to price match each other next year though.

Also rather than using plastidip I'm thinking of giving Halford's spray paints a go for my front grills as buying it from plastidip gets pricey when you include the VAT and postage. I assume they'll work just as well as plastidip?

Just use silicon, mine are secured with it yet they are easy to take off when needed. Also bend all the clips outwards before putting it on, doing both these I'm yet to lose a cap.

Although are you sure you don't just have a thief working your car? ;)

Edit: Make sure you're lining the little groove on the cap up correctly too.

There definitely isn't a thief - it fell off after a blast up some country lanes.

I don't think I ever noticed a groove to line up so that might explain my problem! So you could stick silicon on each of the clips yeah?

I just got mine through £499, a drop of £15 :)

30, 6years NCB and my 3 points dropped off too. Ill be staying with greenlight, Flux have never got close.

For those who are members of FiestaSTOC, can anyone of you point me in the direction of a thread which explains how you take the front grills off so you can paint them? I've looked in the Technical Handbook without much joy. I'm after a guide with pictures rather than just text if possible.

Done my MK6 Zetec Sport last month - everything just pops out tbh. The bottom honeycomb mesh is held in with clips which you can just use a flat head screw driver on, the top mesh simply unclips once you lift your bonnet, you just have to mask up (or remove) the front badge. The fog lights have one screw holding them in which pop out. On the rear reflectors (be careful here) you'd use the flat head again and they just pop out along with the rear small honeycomb mesh on the bumper, then there's 2 small screws under the rear bumper just like the front honeycomb mesh. There's also clips all the way round holding it in place, granted it sounds like you've broken something as they pop out but take your time and it'll all slot back together nicely.

Also seems like plastidip is back in stock. Is that all I need to paint my plastics? Can of this and nothing more?

Sorry I cant comment on the plastidip as I cleaned and sanded my plastics down before applying several coats primer, Ford panther black and then the lacquer. One thing I would say if you're doing the job yourself is take your time, if you rush it it's going to look ****.

Morning all,

Thanks for all you help so far :P I now have another question. Im looking at changing my HU for a double din but have read lots of people have problems with the adapters that they don't fit right and pop out. Has anyone changed theirs and happy with it? What adapter did you use?

Cheers!

Really fancy going back to standard wheels at the moment.

I don't think there's a better wheel that suits the ST really.

Missed this earlier - I have had both the Autoleads, Celsius and Connects2 double din facias for the ST, I thought I'd try them all to see which was best, none of them fitted very well :(.

The best of a very poor bunch was the Connects2, which I attacked top and bottom with 240 grit wet and dry to 'thin it out', so it was a tight fit but not so tight it popped out (its the height of the facias thats the problem, they are all such a tight fit you have to squeeze them in but the tension causes them to 'pop' out very easily). I also glued it in place from behind using Tigerseal to make sure it would stay put.

Not the ideal solution but it looks fine in the car, no mess at all (that you can see!), and you'd never tell it'd been sanded to fit. Double din is the way forward if you can afford a decent unit, looks better than a single din unit and having a large screen or space for more buttons tends to make them easy to operate when dealing with more complex functions like bluetooth and ipod controls etc.

Got my "Welcome pack" from Sky Insurance through the post today. Was rather amused that they had put my car down as having hydraulic suspension rather than just lowered suspension. Quick phone call sorted it though :)

i agree, with the center caps on they look great. Without they look a mess :(

Defo..

Really playing with the idea of getting some standard wheels again and getting rid of my 16" pro race 1.2's

Curses, I change my mind more than I have hot dinners.

i wonder what the wheels would look like if you got them milled down in the center where the center caps should be? probably ****?

You got any pictures of your car on 16s mate? I toy with the idea of trying a smaller wheel all the time.

I have to agree about the wheels without the caps, look a mess. I was considering having the wheels painted and then painting the bolts too. Would help hide it slightly.

Yeah here you go

Lowered quite a bit, don't think they would work without the car being lowered though. Can't fault the 16s, less weight and more tyre wall gives a slightly better ride but just can't help feeling the standard wheels suit the car so much better.

On a separate note, got the rears for my ST170 brake setup conversion, just need to source the fronts now. Also speaking to a company about some adjustable drop links for the front ARB which should be coming to a close soon, will get some pictures up when I receive them.

Also ordered some black faux suede to re-trim the head liner as mine was marked by the previous owner and it's something I've wanted to do for a while. Will either spray the a, b, c pillars black or trim them too. See how I feel at the time.
