Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

Could have a deal lined up to buy a 2nd hand Milltek system for £500. Is there much of a risk buying 2nd hand exhaust systems? I'd be the third owner so I'd imagine any warranty is long gone unless you get one with Milltek themselves?

Not really, nothing can really break on an exhuast so it's not a major issue.

Only thing that might need looking at is sometimes the baffle in the silencers can need replacing but your talking a good number of miles before that happens.

Just make sure it's all Miltek and there aren't any chunks missing out of it and you should be fine :)

Calipers all ready, just waiting for the discs and pads to arrive :)

Just fitted the Sony unit found on later models to my car, can't believe the sound quality difference. My old unit was a let down and I rarely even used the radio because of it, this new one sounds much crisper and looks far better quality to boot :) Isn't a 6cd multichanger like the old one but supports mp3 discs so that makes up for it.

My radio recently kept losing the time and date so it got sent off to Ford to see if they could fix it. They weren't able to fix it but upon the dealership plugging my radio back in, it wouldn't turn on at all so got sent back to Ford for the second time. Basically because my radio wasn't covered in the warranty I took out when buying the car, I had to make do with whatever radio Ford gave in replacement. Unfortunately the replacement was a 1 cd changer compared to the 6 cd changer that came with the car.

Was looking at the Sony head units but a cat back is the higher priority.

Well set about fitting the st170 setup, was easier than I thought really. I've never replaced rear discs or pads before but I will be from now on, it's easier than the fronts! Simply had to remove the old caliper and carrier, push off the disc and then mount the new disc, carrier, slot the pads into the carrier and then bolt the caliper over the top. Had a small moment where I couldn't get the caliper mounted but discovered it was because the small prong on the pad wasn't lining up with one of the holes in the piston.

Fronts were going to be harder as I had to drill the hub out to 12mm (not sure why really when my 8 pot, 330mm kit used 10mm bolts so surely a 300mm kit can cope with 10mm too?). Jacked the car up and prepared to do one corner at a time until I discovered that my drill was too small for a 12mm drill bit.. doh. Quick call to my dad and persuaded him to drop his drill round I began drilling.

Anyone who has tried to enlarge a hole before knows how difficult it is to get the drill bit spot on centre but some how I managed to drill them out. New disc mounted, carrier on, pads slotted into carrier and then caliper bolted over the top again, job done.

Had some trouble bleeding the brakes (my 10 year old quickly got bored of pushing the brake pedal down) and I couldn't get rid of the spongy feel so popped over to Halfords and bought an Eezibleed, what an amazing bit of kit. Started flushing the old fluid out of the system while it drew the new stuff through, job done :)

Drove down to Shrewsbury to see the family few hours later and had slight wobble through the steering wheel. Either this is due to the 3mm spacers I've put on the front recently or the fact that my wheels are not balanced right (not taken them on the motorway before) I don't know. I've removed the spacers and will see if it's made a difference later on.

First impressions? Well the setup feels stronger than before as you would expect, how much of that is down to the increase in size I'm not sure. I had a go at bedding the pads in before setting home from Shrewsbury, doing 10-12 near stops from 60 to 15mph as instructed on stop tech, the brakes did feel very good. Think I'm going to do this a few more times as they say the disc is meant to be a blueish colour afterwards?

They add weight... :p

I hate arch liners after owning previous Fords where the rear arches start to rust because water and dirt gets trapped between the arch and the liner.

Front's aren't too bad and stop water and dirt from entering the engine and side repeater but the rears I don't bother with.

Makes it easier to keep things cleaner too

I though you was supposed to do <1000miles on the pads before doing the hard braking bedding in? Mine went very blue after some hard presses lol

Did you take out all your arch lining to go lower? :p

My front left liner partially fell off the other day, it's now got a nice hole in it where it was rubbing against the tyre. It made an awesome sound, like back when I was a little kid and used to put drinks cartons in the wheel of my bike :p Just popped it back in place and you can hardly tell!

Not according to what I've read on the Fedro box, think it's because the ds2500 are considered a race pad? Was just told to get some heat into them gently then once they are warmed up do the bedding in procedure.

But everywhere i've looked says different things :p

DS2500s are meant to be bed in with a few stops, rather than just driving normally for 1000 miles or so.

I was careful to bed my second set in properly given my first set ended up glazed, you have to get them hot but also build the temperature gradually, I started by barely dragging the brake at slow speeds and building up to ever bigger stops. I think I was too aggressive on my first set!

What's the easiest way of getting a red elbow for my K&N? Can you buy pipes that are an exact fit from somewhere?

Also recently fitted my OMP strut brace but I can no longer unscrew the cap for the brake and clutch fluid. Anyone else had this problem?

I'm also looking into getting red colour HT leads like these but it seems they are designed for racing engines. Would putting them on a standard ST150 engine cause problems?

Hello all,

I think I've decided to go for an ST. The choice was between a Clio Sport, Type R, Astra 2.0T or Fiesta ST.

The reason I've opted for the ST is because the Clio will probably fall to bits, the Type R and Astra are 31mpg at best and double the insurance and I am coming from a Fiesta Zetec-S and it's been a fab car.

How much would I have to spend getting it to around 170-180 bhp? I've had 150bhp before so want a bit more poke if it's affordable.

Thanks

It's naive to think gaining decent horse power is going to be cheap. Getting to 180 is 20% increase, that's a large gain. A decent ST costs 5k~ so an extra 1800 is about right for that gain.

You need a smooth power curve otherwise it's pointless. So really everything you said was naive, as I pointed out.

It's naive of you to assume I know a lot about cars and the cost of such increases. I don't.
