Windows 10

So as it's now RTM, am I correct in saying this turkey is going live as is with no more changes? :(

No - it will update on an ongoing basis, whatever version is deemed RTM for release on the 29th is only the start. Remember this is now going to windows as a service, and Microsoft have promised to support Win 10 for ten years support cycle.

Why turkey - I have found build 10240 runs very well for me - obviously there are still glitches to be fixed, but they will come sooner or later. Which build are you currently on?

I'm on 10240 too, well basically I am completely underwhelmed with it, I see absolutely no improvement over 8.1, it even makes some things worse, this is more like 8.2 than a new version of Windows :( (or 8.11 for Homegroups lol).

I dunno the whole thing just feels very Vista-ry...

I do like windows 10, haven't used the preview in awhile but installed 10240 on to a VM and liking everything so far.

the changes to the start menu may even get me to not install classic shell where I would have done on the last build I used!

I've still not got the Win 10 logo. Google-foo has failed me at everything I have tried.

The only thing I can think of is that, when I went from AMD-Intel I asked MS for a new key for my OEM Win 8 Licence and somehow this is causing the drama. It's all very odd.

I'l wait for the rush to die down and give MS a call. I have every update done etc just no logo.

Luckily my lads Win7 is going to be upgraded so I will get to see what it is like.

Hmmm mine was updated KB3074667 10 min ago then restarted PC and booted reached lockscreen fine.

Mine will not boot at all. I cannot restart as it will try to install again. Ran SFC /Scannow and it fixed a few things, but still fails to boot.

Anyway to force install and update externally, outside of windows update?

For anyone having any issues with the KB3074667 (Seems to be only be at this stage )

But have a look here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...p/2a48d39c-e1e7-43e6-849b-3a686514e5a9?auth=1 This is the fix thread, but yet to read through it all as I am at work, but really want to pin this down!

I shall give it a go later, and keep you posted, a really stupid thing to go wrong!

Out of curiosity, how long did the said update take to install, for those of you it worked for?

i have read somewhere that MS as said not all devices (pcs/laptops) will get the windows upgrade logo before the 29th. some devices will get it after the 29th.

not sure if thats true or not

Not everyone will have the opportunity to upgrade on the 29th, but they should have received the opportunity to 'reserve' a copy before then, assuming of course that they have a legal and qualifying copy of Windows 7. 8 or 8.1 already installed.

8 doesn't qualify, only 8.1 does.

Enterprise and any install connected to a domain is also excluded from getting the Reserve icon (although still entitled to the upgrade, but managed centrally).

I have a non-qualified version of 8.1 (Pro Embedded), but I have briefly used Windows 10 as part of the Insider program.

Will Insider members be given a genuine Windows 10 license key to use after launch?

W10 is a upgrade, it will use your windows 7 SP1 or windows 8.1 key so you will not get a new key on release.

No.

also u won't keep on the RTM for to long, being a insider means your basically a beta tester and you'll keep being a insider even after release so you'll have keep on testing new builds as you have been doing.

u can opt out of insider then you'll need to upgrade from win7/8.1 to win10

Cheers, thanks for the replies. I'm screwed then as my Win7 license is also non-qualified.

I'll wait and see how easy/expensive it is to get on to the Long Term Service Branch!

so you have a pirated copy of W7?

if you have a OEM copy or retail copy of Windows 7 SP1 or windows 8.1 then you can get the W10 upgrade

I tested windows 7 SP1 on a VM with a dodgy copy of windows 7 SP1 and this also got the update (W10 icon)
