Forgot to mention that another massive turn off for me with the Series X is super slow download speeds.

Tried every solution going but still takes well over 8hrs to download a 70-80gig game. I have fibre to the property averaging 450mbps.

Series X downloads are terrible. Wasn’t always the case but for whatever reason in the last year or so, speeds have been laughable and are often consistently sitting at around 10-20 Mbps.

By comparison my PS5 will download an 80gig game in about 20 mins (over Wi-Fi) so it’s not my connection, it’s not my router, it’s not that I’m using Wi-Fi.

It’s the Xbox and Microsoft servers being ****

I've got 1Gbps hardwired and it's still painfully slow. Even more annoying that it slows down even more if you're playing anything at the same time.

Yeah for me the console will not show more than about 60mbps download speed on the console speed test. But the upload speed is consistently higher! Go figure.

Right now it’s showing 55.48 down and 83.20 up!! In reality it’s connecting at 55 but I’m only getting 10-20 during downloads and that’s with no running games/apps.

In the time it’s taken to type the above I ran the test again and it’s showing 12.24 down and 39.97 up.

Seriously MS have broken the networking on this console. Every other device in the house is solid so I genuinely believe this is a forced situation by MS for whatever reason.

Maybe cost cutting on server bandwidth or something.

EDIT: Following a console restart the download speeds improve briefly. Maybe a few mins at 200Mbps then it’s like the throttling kicks in and I’m straight back down to 10Mbps. Sometimes as low as 1-2 Mbps.

Suggests MS services are over subscribed or under resourced if they are having to throttle downloads in this way.

Surely the new star wars jedi games are xbox series only?

I can't cement for fps games, but imagine there must be some difference to performance during game play for series players and xbox one players.

I play dbd and that game was the reason I upgraded from one to series x, as it started to run like poop, which during a competitive game was a big disadvantage.

Yeah I don't know what runs only on series X. Gears ran just fine on my Xbox one and when my son is using the X I have no issues just playing on the xbox one, other than loading times. I think it's a nice little console that hasn't been utilised at all other than to play remakes and remasters. I'd played about 100 different games by now on the 360 this far through its lifecycle.

I regret the purchase, if I'd known what I know now I would have carried on playing the xbox one and got a PS this generation to play all the exclusives I've never looked at.

I get 10 x that download speed with Series X. So it must be your internet provider / wifi or some other unexplained factor.

Maybe. Strange how every other device in the house works just fine though. I’ve even changed ISP and bought a high performance router and there’s no difference in performance in Series X download speeds between previous OEM Sky hub on 35mbps FTTC and an Asus ROG wifi6 router on a 500/500 fibre to the property service with completely new wiring infrastructure. Makes no difference if I’m connecting via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. I’ve changed plenty and attempted to troubleshoot and the only consistent thing in the equation is the Series X. If you read around, there are plenty of other people with this issue and it seems to have manifested following a console OS update.

Sure you don't have a game running? I have 250mbps and my series x always hits that.

Yep. Totally sure. Always close games down if I want to download something.

Yeah tried all that. No difference. My downloads are being throttled server side and it’s not my ISP (I checked) and it’s not my router / Wi-Fi etc. Like I said, I’ve done all the troubleshooting and nothing has helped.

As already mentioned every other device works fine and I have a PS5 and PC that both utilise my bandwidth without any faffing about. I’ve wasted too much time trying to fix these slow download speeds. Pretty much the only thing I haven’t done is replace the console.

Yeah could be a console issue also, I remember the first series x I had experiencing the same issue with speeds accelerating and dropping constantly. It's definitely a common issue that frustrates.

And same as you no other devices had the issue.

I can't say one particular console has dominated my time this gen. Playstation has performed better with releasing AAA games eg. God of War Ragnarok, Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, but inbetween the major releases I find myself drifting back to Xbox/PC and Game Pass ( which basically costs me nothing due to MS Reward points ). I don't think either platform has excelled this generation, if I'm being honest. For those new to consoles, or returning after a long time away, I think Playstation is more appealing due to the impressive catalog of games from the PS4 era.

This really. I been playing PS5 more lately but only because I’m catching up on stuff, although I’ve enjoyed recent stuff like Horizon Burning Shores dlc and before that Stray and some older games I had not yet played like last of us 2 and Detroit Become Human.
I would say ps5 has some better exclusives personally but both this gen consoles haven’t exactly kicked it out the park on new games yet.

I have no issues with download speeds on bt. As @Zatoichi.uK said above, the only time it is throttled is when I have a game open. Go on the download page and suspend running games to speed it up.

Similar, I have 900Mb Zen and get between 500-750Mbps downloads unless I have a game running in the background

Makes no difference when game is closed and quick resume list cleared.

I’m capable of downloading much faster than it lets me, and this is evidenced by the initial speeds when a DL first starts. For example today I downloaded Ghostwire and it started at about 200mbps. Within about 20 seconds it was down to 10mbps.

I’m on manual DNS (Google and Cloudflare) but on auto it’s a similar experience.

My Series X is a day 1 release unit from 2020 so I had wondered if it’s a hardware issue, but as above it does reach ~200Mbps which still isn't as fast as it should be but clearly much better than 10-20mbps. So the throttling is either server side issues on their end or maybe a faulty Wi-Fi chip. But then if it was faulty I’d expect erratic behaviour and connectivity issues which I’ve never experienced.

I should note that I’m connecting via Wi-Fi 6 5ghz.

Day 1 release here as well, I’m on a 350 vm connection and over Wi-Fi I get an average of about 180-200mbps.

It’s definitely server side, I find small file app downloads very slow to download.

Had a Series X since launch day. Also have a day one Project Scorpio in the living room. Not touched either since I cancelled Game Pass about a year ago. Bought a PS5 in Feb and have used it loads since. Mostly for single player exclusives I missed out on. I think I prefer it although do prefer Lives friends / party system and app integration. My PS5 doesn't seem to want to download while its not switched on. I used to find a game on the GP app and download it remotely and it was done by the time I got home.

Have you made sure your PS5 is allowing remote connections and is in rest mode? You also need to link it to your PS5 app on your mobile/tablet.

Weird, have full Fibre with BT and was getting 840Mbps downloads when downloading Jedi Survivor.
