Project CARS 2

Think of VR as old SD quality TV vs 1080p gaming on a monitor which is HD. You'll struggle to read writing, but if you can't see a corner coming up you're doing something wrong...

The resolution is the only thing that lets it down, the overall immersion is amazing. I just hope the Pimax 8k solves that for me...fingers crossed.

What is the issue really, what "looks like poo"? We can't see what you're seeing so no way to say whether something is just the way it is, there's a hardware fault, or user error involved.

Reading the speedo is difficult, looking down on the straights for the corner everything just isn't clear so I miss my braking point. I'm not saying the vr experience is bad, but it's certainly not a beautiful looking game in vr. I can still drive around the track at a nice pace in day time but at night it was much harder. I'll get used to it though. I think I had my hopes set a little high before i bought the rift.

I see you have a 1080ti and a beast mode PC, are you used to 1440p gaming by any chance? I only moved from 1080p to VR as I only had a 980Ti and that was stretched across 3 screens so it was less of a step down for me...that might be the issue, you could take the gamble on a Pimax kickstarter pledge, but the current tech's limits are hardware, can't push the pixels if they aren't there...sorry. VR is not the right move if you are an eye candy junky with current tech limits. SS is the only option I'm afraid, it's just where we are.

I tried PC2 and it runs like crap on my PC. Weird because it runs fine at 4K when using my TV.
GTX 1080 ~2Ghz.

When you say it runs fine at 4k on TV do you mean PC2 or your computer generally...I've only got a 980Ti and it runs fine on my 1080p monitor with Geforce recommended settings (obviously fairly low)? Define runs like crap?

Yeah I have been gaming on a 1440p monitor for years. I guess it's something I will get used to. I still find gaming in vr amazing. I was playing dcs World and Robo Recall earlier and was blown away by how good it is. I'll get used to project cars 2 in time. Thanks for your replies BTW :)

It's very smooth for me on my 980Ti (hydrocopper - boosts to around 1.5ghz iirc) and i7 6700k @4.6ghz... and I raised a few of the settings. Wish it supported VR SLI so the second 980Ti could come into play!

You should have no issues on default settings with a 1080... perhaps it's time for a new CPU?

599 rim is nice. The only issue I had with it was that it was slightly too thin, which made it uncomfortable for my large hands after a little while.
If you don't have hands like shovels or maybe wear gloves, it's a good buy and you'll love it compared to the 458 :)
Load cell FTW too.

All the TM/Logitech stock rims are too small @27-28cm (aside from the formula) and have too little a gap between the rim and the shifters IMO.

FWIW, I ended up grabbing a 320mm car rim and designing/printing my own button enclosure/magnetic shifters.
Excuse crappy pics.
If you're interested, it's printed in carbon fibre/PETG filament and the adaptor is in carbon/nylon.
Yes, there's a couple of buttons missing because I'm a soldering noob and managed to break them :o

this inspired me to make my own.

10 button box, well a bit of floorboard, magnetic paddle shifters and Arduino nano that uses the Thrustmasters quick release interface so can use on the Xbone too :D

You shouldn't have any problem reading the speedo or any of the cockpit instrumentation. At least in all the cars I've driven this has not been an issue. You don't have a pair of glasses you need to put on?

Is there an issue with SuperSampling on the Vive in this game? It doesn't seem to make a difference where I put the slider I get no performance hit or quality improvement. Thats with the in game SS or the Steam VR SS.

I’ve never really gone down the rig building route because I can just about wire up a plug, got to appreciate some of the work that goes into them with the button boxes and stuff. I can’t help thinking it’s a bit lost alongside VR though...obviously wheel buttons make a lot of sense.

Just watched last weeks Gadget Show. Gaming week next episode, Friday 5pm C5 for those in the UK. Looks like Project Cars 2 in a full motion rig will be on there if anyone is interested.

Got my wheel fixed (brass encoder in place and all working great) and had a blast this evening. Those Ginetta juniors are just great fun.

While stationary, try to pull the oculus a a centimetre or slightly more away from your face and see then if the dials get clearer. I wear multi-focal contact lenses (for short and long sightedness) and find that with the oculus tight to my face, then the dials are slightly blurred (even with changing the lens adjusters), having it a little further away makes things clear. While you obviously can't play the game like that, i've been looking to try to find an additional spacer for rift to keep it further away from my eyes on a permanent basis.

I'm running a 1080 with the SS set at 2 with nearly all bells and whistles on.
