Hitting the magic 1800mhz core clock frequency on the new 17.11.1 driver with 1200mv again....woop woop :) Damn I love this card

fast forward to graphics test 2 for peak core clocks.

Sweet Tony. I get excited when I see my clocks boost past 1730. Jealous mate.

Edit: Just has a wee nosey at your rig picture - looks lovely that. Don't have the spheres to go custom water - maybe in another couple of years I'll find the courage...

Thanks mate. I'm just anal in whole numbers, in gaming the difference between 1730mhz and 1800mhz is probs less than 2fps lol.

Mine doesn't seem to even want to reach 1600 :(

I'm thinking it's either power starved by my 650 watt psu or not getting enough air in my Corsair 240 cube case. I just ordered a 860 watt Seasonic psu for delivery tomorrow so if that doesn't improve it I'll put it in my old Corsair C70 case, I'm also thinking this might be a good time to build my first loop but I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

EDIT:

The Corsair air 240 cube case is designed to give you a choice of which way up you have it, I just turned the case the other way and added an old 9cm noisblocker fan I had so it sits next to the card pushing air straight onto the gpu's fan and now it runs a whole 8 degrees cooler at load. I've left it running Heaven for 15 or so minutes and it max'd at 75 degrees with the hot spot maxed at 87 and the HBM max'd at 83, Much better than before and the fan speed max'd at 41% which is also lower and quieter than before.
Much happier now :)

Almost forgot to mention that it's now clocking higher too at just over 1600.

Welcome and on TROH.:)

Cheers.

Got a refund for the Alphacool Eiswolf 240, it remained out of stock for to long and I couldn't be bothered waiting any longer. So now I going to just stick with my original plan and do my first full loop.. Buy the new CPU first though.

I wanted to find out what PSU's those of us here with Vega 64 and Vega 56 air blower cards are using?

Just catching up after being away for a while... happy to report my Be Quiet! Pure Power 10 600W PSU is still going strong even with my Ryzen 7 OC @3.85, 32GB DDR4 ECC B-die @3066, and V64 (EKWB) running at ~1730MHz core & 1150MHz HBM and a full custom WC loop. The highest system power draw I've ever seen on my power meter is 571W.

I would expect the real world speed and stability of the voltage regulation control loops varies with PSU models, and the larger output capacitors in high power PSUs can somewhat mitigate a poorer response. I may have accidentally lucked out in getting a fantastic quality PSU, but I chose it as I thought it was a good deal at £65 earlier this year. It's only rated 80 Plus Silver, but crude efficiency isn't intrinsically correlated with other quality or performance factors.

Trying out the 17.11.1 drivers, but I'm seeing core clock spikes and crashes, so far just in Fire Strike.

Hi, I'm shiny new here - Just picked up a vega 64, after A LOT of deliberation, but my hand was forced when I saw that scan upped the prices by £100 quid or so in the last couple of hours so I jumped onto overclockers offer for the vega as they haven't done the same. Any advice on tweaking it when its delivered - I've read a load of the pages on this thread but 153 pages its a bit overwhelming working out what to start with. TBH the power draw of the 64 scares the bejesus out of me!

IMO you'll be better off with custom WC. The initial cost is higher but later all your doing is changing blocks when needed.

I purchased 2x MagiCool G2 Slim 360mm from OCUK. They've worked really IMO, I went for 6x Arctic Cooling F12 PWM, again cheap but been really good on results IMO.

This is worst case for loading for me, Bionic CPU/GPU. TR 1950X stock, VEGA DPM6: 1557MHz 975mV, DPM7: 1652MHz 1125mV, HBM: 1100MHz 975mV, PowerLimit: 65%. Case is Be Quiet Dark base 900, I modded front to mesh and cut the inside of top panel to allow more air out from side mesh.

Bionic results in ~600W from wall plug for total rig (inc screen), room ambient 22.1C, link.

I'm now happier with my air reference V64 than I was with the AIO version and so far my 650 watt psu seems to handle it fine. I was worried it was starving the card as it wasn't going up to 1600 let alone the stock 1630 mhz it's meant to be at but now I think it's more to do with temps as I've improved those and it now passes 1600. I ordered an 850 watt psu so tomorrow I'll see if it's any better with that as the stock clock should be 1630 mhz. Plus I'll see about overclocking once I have that installed. You're doing really well running all that with a 600 watter.

Yeah I'm seeing that a lot with 17.11.1 when monitoring with gpu-z it's hitting 1790 sometimes in Firestrike and that causes the crash when usually it's just a constant 1720/1730 and stable. Seems like the drivers aren't locking the oc settings properly or something but it's annoying none the least.

I get ~1600MHZ at stock too with the default 1632, although mine's running 1050mv.
