Cruicial M4 0009 Firmware Update

Happy with that. :)

Why are my read speeds down compared to most and my write speeds higher than others? I'm guessing it could be due to the size of the drive but surely I should still see 500MB/s+ Read?

This is a 240GB M4 that came with 0009 already on it.

I was able to tweak the RAID setup of the 2 x 64GB M4's and was able to squeeze out some better numbers than I got before.

System:

  • i2500k CPU running at 4.2Ghz overclocked (stock volts)
  • 2 x 64GB Crucial M4 SSD's running firmware 0009
  • 8GB Kingston PC10666 DDR3 Ram (HyperX Blu)
  • Gigabyte SoC GTX460 1GB Graphics Card
  • MSI P67-G45 B3 Motherboard running latest beta bios.
  • Antex TX650W Power Supply
  • Antec 300 Case

That's weird firstly what did you tweak?

is a test today I've had as high as 1080 Sequential speeds depends what mood my pc is in.

with this set up

I've been told that intel RST would boost it but tbh I don't think i need it. First on the BF3 servers every time :)

Downloaded the firmware but for the life of me i dont know what file i need to create the iso help :)
ImgBurn will let you burn the ISO to a blank CD/DVD/BD. Then you just boot from it.

Not sure about the reads but higher capacity drives will have faster writes due to more channels being used.

Thanks, yeah it's interesting with the read speeds. This was a fresh install with AHCI enabled from the word go and the intel rapid drivers.

so when you install WIN7 with SSD always AHCI enabled?

To get the most performance out of the drive yes.

If you install windows 7 whilst in IDE mode and then switch to AHCI you will blue screen. There is a workaround for this though, just a simple key change in the registry.
It's just easier to set it to AHCI before the install.

Just installed my new 64GB Crucial M4 and updated to the latest firmware.

How does this look:

Also, I have 18gb left on the drive. Is that enough empty space for the drive to run well as my Windows 7 drive? I've installed a bunch of software and a game.

Thanks.

Hello Chaps. Might be a complete moron here but Just wondering - Wouldn't the Corsair Force series 120GB/240GB be a better drive for its price and its write speed? Or am I missing something?

apologies If i'm asking a silly question. Just trying to work out if I should buy this or the Corsair 240GB

No idea.

But you won't see the full speed due to the SATA 2 ports on your motherboard, assuming it's for the system in your sig.

Not really, the SandForce controller is uses still has lots of problems.

Reliability > speed.

It's not as if it's heaps quicker anyway.
