Bunyan I seen you mentioned your board doesn't have AHCI (same as mine) so I thought we wouldn't be able to do a secure erase or firmware update whilst running under IDE mode or am I mistaken?

Your 100% correct, you cannot update nor secure erase under IDE mode. I have to boot up my SSD into my dad's machine, set his board to AHCI and use the live cd. Bit of a hassle but works non the less!
Right im going to take my SSD round to mates this weekend and do the update. Would it not be easier to hook it up to his PC as a secondary drive, then just use the OCZ Toolbox to flash the firmware? Seems much more straightforward than using Parted Magic just. Thoughts?
I find using Parted Magic easy, getting it to work the first time can be tricky though. I now have a ZIP file with everything needed, which I extract to my empty USB drive and then just boot from it and follow the instructions.
Using the Toolbox is the easiest way with a non-OS drive though.
Think I will stick with the Linux method then Only problem I have heard about is the SSD locking up or freezing. Apparently the fix is to remove the power from the SSD and then reconnect again whilst the machine is still running. Sounds a little dodgy mind so hope I don't have that problem
DragonQ: Would you be so kind as to share this ZIP file and instructions with me please? My email addy is in my trust
Im in work so can't check the link but DragonQ mentioned the Zip file has everything needed to do the update so I assume it would contain Parted Magic as well.
