Post your FTTC line stats & unlocking info

New installs (towns new to FTTC) have wildly inflated downstream attainable rate figures, due to lack of crosstalk, once more and more lines are enabled on your cab the rate will drop. How far it drops depends on line quality etc.
 
I've had BT Infinity for about 3 hours now. A couple of modem reboots as I unlocked it.

Not really, you should be at ~38Mbps downstream. But you'll need to wait 10 days before BT will talk to you about it
 
thing is, is he using wireless? whats bt speedtester site say etc.

ahhh, home plugs, the 3 re boots may have brought in the dlm

The full java-based test will tell you the IP profile. Are you using wired or wireless?

wired via homeplugs (@ ~75Mbps)
result is 22/8.42
profile is 38.71/10.00

In my welcome letter it said I should get 40/10

Done some more testing.
Using my netbook, direct to the HH3 I get 37/8

Tried the Homeplugs in different sockets and it seems that, whatever it speed it reports, I'll only get about 1/3 that through speedtest.net etc. :(
ie
homeplug ~75Mbps, speedtest ~22Mbps
homeplug ~45Mbps, speedtest ~15Mbps


Ah well. 22.5/7.5 is better than 7/0.8 :rolleyes:

I did that already.
My problem is with the Homeplugs.
Basically, whatever the homeplug utility reports, the actual maximum data rate will be around 1/3, due to overheads and the fact that homeplugs are not fully duplex.

The actual brand is doesn't really matter much. The overheads are a part of the way Homeplugs work. Also because of marketing they conveniently skip the fact that homeplugs are only simplex devices, so they mis-state the speed.

I've managed to increase my speed by using a filtered surge protector strip for the other devices (BT modem, HH3 and cordless phone base station) near the Homeplug.
I'm getting ~30/9 now at my PC.

I know people shun wireless, but I live in a 3 storey house and my computer is on the top floor and router is on the bottom, I still manage a 300mbs connection with a wndr37AV and get full speed, might be worth a try, I know routers are expensive, I'm waiting for the Asus N66u.
 
How do I connect to to the modem through my router? Do I have to put in a NAT statement or something? Or just put them on the same subnet?

Never mind, I just put the modem onto the same subnet as my router. Kind of expected it to just work anyway like it does with Virgin, not to worry, will post stats shortly.

Looking good, was just about to say from the attenuation figure it's about 450/500 meter line lol.

I would expect the downstream attainable rate to drop in the coming months to the late 80's, as more people fill up the cab.

Mine was well over the 100 mark, it's settled at 95 now.
