Scariest ''level'' in a video game

Not that the entire game was scary, but Metro2033 the bit when the gorilla thing drops outta the hole in the ceiling in the library level made me jump a bit lol.

I have to say, the Hotel in Vampire was fantastically scary! Always made me jump so I had to turn the sound off to stop me jumping so much! :|
But for me, the scariest game has to be Silent Hill, especially the first encounter with the demon baby things in the alleyway, My heart has never beat so hard when playing a videogame! That and the school area + radio static....THE RADIO STATIC! *Collapses into a blubbering mess!*

doom 3.. i was sitting in the internet cafe that time and there was another pc right behind me.. i jumped so many times playing it and banged my head into the old CRT.. fuu x[ tried playing it again but i just can't do it..

You are digging away at that lovely block of diamond whilst teetering over an edge 3 blocks above a lava lake, suddenly you hear "SSssssssssssssssss KABOOM!!!!" and you are blown by a creeper into the lake, losing your life and all your hard dug diamond, gold and iron.... Minecraft...

First level of Alien vs Predator (the first game). I owned one of the first surround sound setups, parents had gone out and was playing in the dark. For the whole first level, nothing actually happens, but the atmosphere of that game was one of the most engaging that I have ever come across. Lots of other scary levels around, but I remember this one most of all. Cracking game too.

As a young kid, like 6/7 I will never forget how much the original Half Life scared the pants off of me. Especially the "dragon looking boss" with 3 heads, that was especially scary as a 6 year old haha, good times.
These days I'm pretty sure the scariest thing I've played is Silent Hill 2

What about Metro 2033? That is getting me pretty scared at the moment. The breathing when the gas mask is on, not knowing when those monsters will come... it's enough to get my ticker going!

Another vote for just any of Amnesia, if you watch it on youtube it won't really seem scary you have to be playing it and understand the idea of it. When it's dark, obviously :)

I don't get the love for Ravenholm - sure those werewolf things are pretty weird but they don't really do any damage and the finale on the rooftop is easy if you get them in the head as they come up the drainpipes.

I found the start of HL2, going through the city and storm drains far more unnerving. Ravenholm needs more bits where you feel truly "confined".

The tentacles in the fourth level 'Blast Pit'? I found that very, very tense at the time. Insta-gibbed loads :(

Also, generic head crab moments in HL1. Scarier than HL2.
