Not just a different fan but a vastly quieter better performing card in general. Blowers are notorious for being loud and the ref Ti's are like jet engines compared with a decent cooled card.

The blower fans are noisy as hell and the card quickly hits it's thermal limit of 84c at which point the clock speed throttles down, spend the extra 50 and get something decent.

Not the MSI armor though, reports I read says it's as bad as the blower

Which to go for?

I believe Gigabytes Turbo has upgrade internal cooling like their 1080 version. Blower is still loud but is a G1 board underneath which is a £100+ saving for a waterblock in the future

Out of the box it boosts to 1936 core, haven't tried overclocking it yet. Given I'm very picky where noise is concerned this is where I'm impressed most, leaving it to run in Dishonored 2 with vsync off it stabilised at 69/70 degrees at which point the fan goes between 45% and 55%, it wasn't audible over my case fans.

Compared to my Titan X maxwell clocked around 1350 I got the following from a quick test (4k mostly max settings):

TXm - 42.9
Aorus - 64.1 (+49%)

Dishonored 2 - loaded a scene in the clockwork mansion
TXm - 40
Aorus - 62 (+55%!)

MSI armor isn't a blower, do you mean the Aero which is the one I mention above for an extra £20

No I do mean the Armor OC, google it and you'll find a reddit thread of 1080ti armor owners who say the MSI Armor cooling is terrible, unlike the MSI Gaming X 1080ti which is decent

Shame, seems the 1080 Armor card was quite decent too.

I was originally going for that but it isn't redesigned and using the same cooler as the 1080. Not really good enough for such a big chip like the 3584 core Ti, so I am pretty glad I changed over. The Zero Frozr is doing a great job of cooling and I would certainly recommend it to everyone.

Yup, hence the major players switching to 2.5/3 slot cards. It bloody needs it!! But the upside is a nice quiet and powerful card with no throttling :cool:

I don't know why there wasn't as many 2.5/3 slot cards before. The noise and thermals are much better.

Nice to see you don't have any coil whine issues. I'm fairly tempted to try again with a second order. Or just put up with the 1070. Decisions.

I have a Gigabyte Gaming OC 1080 Ti, The card has coil whine and the fans are pretty loud (it gets upto 76 degrees) - massivley dissapointed. I've opened an RMA. I don't want a replacement card, just my money back. It's a real peice of crap the cooler on the Gigabyte, you need the beefier coolers like the Aorus / Frozor / Amp Extreme otherwise its a toasty card.

Gigabyte the cheap gets didnt even put a back plate on it. absolute scumbags.
