What do gamers actually think about Ray-Tracing?

They have updated the models, those models here being physical assets, player ownable ships with full and fully functional interiors, the one you're looking at is 450m long. takes a year to make one of that size, the largest player ownable ship is the other one with the ships flying out of the front, it is 960m long, it has an internal tram system.

IMO the bottom one looks way better, much more detail on it, and contrasting detail.
The bottom one does have more detail, but I almost think it's too busy. I too prefer the look of the top one, from a design point of view (based on that screenshot).

I don't know why I'd care about the rest of it or what relevance it has. Like when No Mans Sky says it has over 18 quintillion planets to explore across 255 galaxies. Does that make it better than any other space game cuz it's got some big numbers?

Owning a massive fully functional ship that you crew with 100's of real players is cool as _____

Elite Dangerous had the same thing, no it doesn't, this will have 5 on launch and 1000X more content, end goal is 100.

Not as cool as having 18 quintillion planets.

Also not sure what either has to do with graphics and ray tracing.

You asked, would be rude not to provide an answer.

Best this is probably make all SC / SQ42 related questions in this thread.

---------

One this you should notice is in the top video the shadow sides of the ships are more or less blacked out, somewhat, the bottom with RT GI there is ambient illumination.

That's a long thread, is there a specific post that mentions the whole 100 real players as crew and Ray Tracing connection?

There will be somewhere in here... its just known from the intended player count and usable stations in ships like that.

RT is this segment from last year.

It all looks very good and seems like they're doing good work. When is it going to be released, is there a date yet?
I only watched 10 minutes from the time you linked on but again saw nothing about ray tracing with 100 crew members on screen at once or the 960m long ships.

On a side note, I like that Thor (from Pirate Software) calls it "Store Citizen" because of how you level up... something, based on how much real world money you spend on it.

You can't see them on the website because they are not for sale.

Star Citizen Wiki.

Javelin Class Destroyer.

Bengal Class Carrier

You would buy them in game with in game earnings or....... Build them yourself with the space station you just built.

Also watch the whole of the SQ42 play through in my signature, all of it, these things are subjective but this is a spiritual successor to Wing Commander, it is a Chris Roberts Epic, to me.

I've spent 10 minutes watching Star Citizen videos already, that's way more time than I ever planned to give thinking about the game.

I've asked the question enough times and not got an answer so I'm just going to stop asking to avoid derailing the thread any more.

Giving the richness of the data driven procedural generation tech, 18 quintillion should be doable and much more interesting than NMS can ever do in its current form.

For RT, this year's graphical presentation:

Some from last year

However, if you're not passionate about it, there's no point seeing it.

Feels good to be back on proper path tracing with the new AW2 DLC, look at the quality

Look at the hair strands!

Amazing to see how matured Remedy's Northlight engine has now become and performant. I remember PT during AW2's launch and barely scratching 100fps, now it's 130fps with the same settings lol.

I like to have it, but have to admit there's been time when I've genuinely forgot it was on and went to turn it on..

I think some games do such a good job simulating lighting it's not immediately obvious, however it does generally make a great visual impact so I'm a fan.
