Mine seems to be boosting 2038Mhz out the box! And I have the "Core"... So I wonder what the non core boosts too? Anybody shed some light? Oh also the "Core" edition just comes in a non core edition box with a "Core" sticker next to extreme. Also on the card it states Core where the model sticker is.

Without the fishing line I think my PCIE slot would be snapped off lol. Do you have the "Core" edition also?

Yes mine is the core edition also :). Boosts similarly to yours around 2025mhz I think out of the box. Overclocking wise, settles at about 2050-2076mhz (+250 Memory) after a good long run and the card up to temp.

pcb is also insane. I loved my MSI GX but even that with dual 8 pin couldn't put any extra voltage due to it trying to go over its 117% power limit. Zotac barely ever scrapes 100% out of a possible 120% and that's with the voltage maxed out as well.

And I think so too lol, the card weighs an absolute tonne. Great design and due to its triple fan and quite wide spaced radiator it gets rid of the heat extremely well compared to other cards i've tested.

Quietest card I've tested so far by quite a long way.

Exactly, its not a bad upgrade price wise if you're trading in your old kit. I'll be selling my 980ti sli to cover it, after costs i think my new card will have cost me 400-500 :)

Lower power use
Better performance
free from the sli headache

Yeah I also look at it as a running cost. My 1080 was 550 quid a year ago. I should sell it for 350 or so. So it's cost 200 quid for a year. 16 quid a month or about a third of what most people spend on phones :p

Hopefully vega sucks and this holds its value reasonably well ;)

That's how I calculate GPU costs too. I wonder what the 1080Ti will be valued at 1/2 years from now.

Also regarding the Zotac Core which I have now, I should probably do that fishing line trick? as the card sags a bit since it's so heavy

haha we can hope, but most likely WILL suck :D

Hmm £16 a month, this gives me an idea! What about a GPU rental company. Instead of buying gpu's, you lease them for the year and can upgrade every year to the newest hottest model or pay a final amount at the end to own it outright. Say £20-25 a month?

Would be quite good for budget pc gamers who can't afford the crazy prices these days. I myself got my new gpu on buy now pay a year later scheme, will have it paid off in a few months so its all good.

Yes completely doable. I'm not sure it'd work as a business but the logic is sound. I use the same thinking when I buy my new iPhones. Yes they're 800 up front, but keep them well and sell them just before the new model and it's not so bad. You do need decent cash flow but I have a friend who does it with 0% credit cards. Buys the asset, pays off what he expects to lose in depreciation each month and sells it at the end and pays the balance out. 1080Ti's for everyone! :D

Those zotacs are insane! My 298mm strix fit with less than 10mm of clearance to my front rad though. Phew!

Here's mine. No Zotac for me. Haha.

Ordered some flexible braided PCIe extensions to help as the current ones ruin the look!

Have any strix owners used the fan headers and if so can you customise the curves?

I'd like to spin my exhaust fans up in conjunction with GPU load rather than CPU. But I want the control so that I know they're kept within spec.

My board came with a couple of thermistors which I guess I could stick to the backplate if not possible...

I use a thermistor cable with my Gene VIII. You can change the fans pwm curve to react to the external sensor rather than the CPU temperature. I slipped the thermistor cable under the back plate on my card.

anyone here played around with the voltage curve in afterburner much? I see some people posting much better OCs vs just typing an offset in, havnt really got the hang of editing the entire curve yet though...

Great idea... stupid question but assume they don't conduct?!

Great thanks. I'll give that a go.

My backplate gets really hot so I might set the middle radiator fan to spin up separately from the others to force some additional airflow over it too.

So I bought a 1080ti Asus strix (none oc) and I'm happy with it but noticed something strange.

The card only boosts to 1860 by itself but will go no higher unless I manually clock it and can get it to 2000mhz.

It seems a bit unusual I thought turbo boost would get 1900+ by itself I've even tried with the fans maxed out to avoid thermal throttling and with power limit maxed but it just wont budge.

I cant help but get the feeling that the non oc card is limited in some way unless you overclock it manually.

Edit: The non oc versions boost clock is 88mhz less than the oc version, That would put it at 1949mhz (about what i'd expect it to boost to by itself) I guess asus have to justify releasing the oc version somehow by limiting the other one.
