Christ, be as well sticking a steel girder under that card :eek:

Its a pity case manufacturers don;t get together with the gpu vendors and have some kind of inbuilt modular designs inside cases for gpu support. About the only ones that do are dell with video cards that have a handle attached to them that slots inside the case. Thats why there's 3 screw holes on the end of the geforce cards for the bracket to be attached to

Yeah a bit of fishing line! Just a bit of support, or the card sags quite a bit. I done the same with my GTX 1070, but the 1080tTi is even heavier!

Yeah, they're a beast as I remember CaptainRaves card sagging at the time with no support even though he didn't have it for all that long yet.

Imagine if it was copper. :eek:

Sorry I just see this. That's a good idea tbh! I don't know where there isn't much out there in terms of GPU support. If I fitted my GTX 1080Ti without the fishing line I can't see the PCIE slot lasting for too long...

I didn't realise the 1080Ti shroud is all metal! The 1070 was plastic...

The 1070 must be pretty light? I never knew the Zotac shroud on the 1070 was plastic.

Ordered a ROG strix which should be with me tomorrow. Crazy price but with selling my 1080 it doesn't feel so bad.

I think I will have about 10mm clearance between the card and front rad so fingers crossed there...

Do I need to reinstall any drivers or just swap and go?

I did a swap and go with my old 970 and everything was fine

If you have MSI afterburner I'd probably uninstall that first, just in case it does something funky with clock speeds, fan timers, etc.

I am hugely impressed with the strix. Serious performance and thermals are insane. 65c under load in games with 40% fan and it's boiling in here!

Question though, the backplate runs too hot to touch. Is that an issue on any of the other components? My 1080 backplate barely got warm.

Exactly, its not a bad upgrade price wise if you're trading in your old kit. I'll be selling my 980ti sli to cover it, after costs i think my new card will have cost me 400-500

It is a monster of a card. Love mine. cool, Super quiet and clocks like hell.

Luckily mine is wedged under my I/O cover on my motherboard so it keeps it pretty straight. But I like that idea of fishing line though, I may try that to bring it up a couple of mm.

Mine seems to be boosting 2038Mhz out the box! And I have the "Core"... So I wonder what the non core boosts too? Anybody shed some light? Oh also the "Core" edition just comes in a non core edition box with a "Core" sticker next to extreme. Also on the card it states Core where the model sticker is.

Without the fishing line I think my PCIE slot would be snapped off lol. Do you have the "Core" edition also?
