January Transfer Window 2017/18

Chelsea FC @ChelseaFC
Asked if the club are trying to sign Alexis Sanchez, Conte says: 'I don't think so.'

So now it's down to Raiola and Arsenal. Hopefully it's a formality despite what Raiola might come out with (he said there was no Pogba deal the day before he joined so take what he says with a pinch of salt).

Reading between the lines it sounds like Raiola is looking for some sort of pay off for him/his player.

Yep, he'll want a pay off from us and lots of bonuses from Arsenal. He's a very aggressive negotiator and unusual character.

99% of agents are the same, it just so happens that it's been his players that have been involved in high profile deals where at least one of the clubs involved has been desperate and he's leveraged that.

If you were selling Mkhitaryan in isolation, unless you were desperate to get rid of him at all costs then there's not much bargaining power with him but with it being suggested that Mkhitaryan holds the key to the Sanchez deal, it gives him leverage to get the best possible deal for him and Mkhitaryan.

I'm sure that's the case to a degree but Raiola does seem a bit crazier than the others. He threw a chair at the Borussia Dortmund negotiators when we were signing Mkhitaryan...

I suspect we'll have to pay half of his remaining contract off or something. :(

Sky Sports News now reporting it would be a straight swap, Mkhitaryan for Sanchez (they could be guessing though).

Yes that's what Raiola is saying

Yep, Sky have just spoken to him so chances are he's told them it'll be a swap. Seems a fair deal on the whole as we'll end up paying Mkhitaryan to leave, no doubt.

How so? Lets assume the £30-35m fee for Sanchez is correct, who can Arsenal sign of Mkhitaryan's quality for less than that?

Yeah, it seems logical when you think about it. Mkhitaryan hasn't been great but he's certainly an established high level player who would fit Arsenal's team. I can't see him dragging them through games though at all, they need improvement elsewhere.

The Sky article: http://www.skysports.com/football/n...s-on-henrikh-mkhitaryan-agreeing-arsenal-deal

Interesting points:

The agent, who counts Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku among his clients, says he proposed the 'Sanchez to Old Trafford, Mkhitaryan to Arsenal' deal more than six weeks ago.

Raiola told Sky Sports News: "Mkhi's problems at Man Utd are purely related to playing football. He has no problem with the manager. It is not personal. And he has two and a half years left on his contract. He doesn't have to leave."

Both of these things bode well for a deal being done, especially it being mentioned 6 weeks ago. You would think some groundwork has been laid.

Jim White, who's usually Raiola's first port of call tweeted earlier today that there's only a 10% chance of Mkhitaryan joining Arsenal and that was a condition of the Sanchez transfer. As I mentioned earlier though, this is probably Raiola pushing for more money.

Tbf, they'd be 2nd in most other seasons too just not a million miles behind. You're spot on about Mourinho though - in Martial and Rashford he's got 2 very talented young players in that position already but he sees Sanchez as a better short term fix.

Martial yes, I think Rashford is better as an out and out striker. Martial could be too but we have Lukaku as the first choice there for now and the future. Martial lacks consistency, he's normally very good but can be frustrating at times.

My post was based on Mourinho as your manager. As long as he's there then Martial & Rashford aren't centre forwards. Re Martial being inconsistent, that would be a fair point if you were signing a player that's been performing consistently.

When he was happy at Arsenal he was fairly consistent, since then he's been miserable. I hope we'll get the "old" Sanchez, otherwise this deal is a problem.

To be fair, we had a transfer strategy in the summer for the most part, but failed to get Perisic (which caused problems on the pitch and behind the scenes too). Lukaku was bought instead of Morata when it became apparent we could get him ahead of Chelsea.

I don't think Sanchez is a panic buy as such, more a world class player who is on the market and we could actually make good use of him, especially with an effective swap for Mkhitaryan.

For what it's worth I think City fabricated the Chelsea thing to try and cause trouble as they are annoyed about not getting him on their terms.

I think Liverpool would pay the Sanchez transfer fee but his contract would shatter their wage structure.

At Utd you will get good players because of the club but they won't sign the best any time soon. If Sanchez wants a crack at the title and play football, Chelski are the best option.

We are currently of equal standing to Chelsea IMO. They seem very unsteady, despite being better over the past few seasons. Conte will likely be going in the summer by the sound of it and they need a number of new players.

Lukaku was wanted by Chelsea and joined us, Pogba was the most highly rated midfielder of his type in the world and Real Madrid wanted him too. Even if you'll say the reason was purely down to money, we still got him. Nobody dreamed of playing for Man City, but they have established themselves as a modern footballing power using money and are doing fine.

City as it stands are well ahead of everyone, but to start making claims like Man Utd won't sign the best players anytime soon is wishful thinking. We are about to sign one of the top players in the league by the sound of it.

According to the sun Liverpool are after Malcolm if so can't see arsenal getting a look in

I think Arsenal have backed out due to Mkhitaryan.

Mike apparently wants to go back to dortmund

Id say the deal is dead and by that i mean sanchez to utd also

Says who? He can't, Dortmund don't want him. Raiola is just trying to get Arsenal to pay Mkhi close to £300k a week at the moment.

Raiola can **** off if he thinks that is going to happen. (Hopefully)

It won't happen, but that will no doubt be his starting point for negotiations. Arsenal reportedly offered 300k to Sanchez which he turned down. I suppose they'll settle on 220-250k, assuming it's agreed.

I did call it a few pages back, Wenger will not be forced to pay a player £300k by his agent. For all of Wengers faults, I can’t fault him on that. And if Raiola thinks he can get away with scamming Arsenal...good luck to him lol

I reckon Sanchez will stay till summer then make his move to City rather than Utd.

Reading all of the reports from those in the know, I'd be surprised if it didn't happen now. It makes sense for all involved parties, but of course Raiola won't just roll over and take an average deal. Arsenal won't have to pay £300k a week, he's not on close to that at Man Utd.

In 2009 Mkhitaryan said in a UEFA interview that his favourite team was Arsenal, so he probably wants the move. Don't forget that this was initially suggested by Raiola weeks ago, he's not stupid and he knows he can't demand the sort of money from Arsenal that he could elsewhere.

It would be in Arsenal's favour to back up that story and tell Raiola they'll sell him to Utd without Mkhitaryan.

There are numerous reports emerging from all over that the deal is edging ever closer (rather than the opposite), both clubs want it finalised so the players can be registered in time for Saturday. Every game counts.

reports as far as yesterday saying he doesnt want to come to arsenal.

well if arsenal want him(cant believe that as this is the first time arsenal ever mentioned him) and united dont mind offering him a part of the deal then lets go ahead and make it happen? what is the delay?

Yes but what reports? Sources are important.

The delay is because a swap deal is complex so will take some sorting out, throw Raiola into the mix and it's even more complicated.

Still yet to see a credible report that says he doesn't want to join Arsenal. Just because he hasn't jumped at the first offer Arsenal made, doesn't mean he isn't interested.

Sanchez's journalist mate:

@MaksCardenas
Is not about the money. Alexis prefers United to city because he knows he can be a star there. In City he would not know even if he would always be a starter. And Alexis likes to play everything even friendly matches.

:p
