I'm guessing the overvolt is in the spec of what the card can take. Severe overvolting would be the damaging stuff but the amount we can increase in afterburner is minuscule.

Note he doesn't say one year directly, he actually corrects himself. Rather he uses it as an example.

Amazes me how well these cards do at 4K, BF1 70-90fps consistently on ultra, siege 90+fps at ultra, battlegrounds 45+ FPS. Really impressive.

Still toying with a 1080 ti (probably FE or jet stream) or a EVGA SC ICX. I run 1440...keep going to buy then deciding to wait for vega

My only slight regret is that playing 3440x1440 60hz vsync doesn't get the card breaking a sweat with most titles. Unless you pile on MSAA at which point it generally isn't powerful enough.

witcher 3 made me laugh. Only played the opening hour but maxed without hairworks the card didn't boost over 1300 and the fan didn't even come on. Same with sniper elite 4

Stay away from the FE unless you plan on water cooling. They are hot, noisy and throttle.

At 1440p, I went for a EVGA FTW3 to replace my overclocked Gigabyte 980Ti G1. FTW3 is cooler with less noise while the minimums are hitting above 60. I imagine the SC being just as good.

Sorry...my OP meant to say FE/jet stream Ti or FTW/SC 1080. EVGA Tis just seem too expensive.

Payed 650, im well impressed with build quality.

For a massive gpu it doesnt sag at all and looks a lot better in life.

Im coming from a waterblock on my 1070 so im not used to any noise gaming and this is the same at auto fan. Mind I have done very little so far.

I had a custom curve for benching it and it was loud at 70-80% but that's to be expected.

I caved and got a Jetstream too with the Destiny 2 thing. I'm glad I went with a 2.5 slot card for the extra cooling and less fan noise. It does up to 1886mhz out of the box and messing with the clock speed slider boosts it up to 2050mhz @73 degrees.

MSI has done a nice job with the new Lightning. I do kind of miss the yellow theme its predecessors had though, perhaps the customizable included stickers could have gotten a yellow version as well? The facts are simple though, it is big and bulky, but that does cool properly. Fact is also that thanks to Nvidia's limiters all 1080 Ti cards clock roughly the same. And that is where Nvidia makes it very difficult for the brands like MSI to really shine with a ginormous tweak. The new Lightning Z edition GTX 1080 Ti is a funky little dude with that really nice RGB implementation, and I like that though also understand it won't be everybody's cup of Darjeeling tea. The MSRP of 699 USD is for the the Founders Edition. MSI is selling this puppy for roughly $749. Compared to a reference card overall you are looking at an up-to 10% on average extra in performance and 15% when tweaked. And that means the product as tested today passes Titan X performance levels.
