A great big warm welcome to the team! :)
If you haven't done so already then why not check out the Folding@Home Setup Guide and the Quickie Guide for more foldy-tastic tips especially for when you're in a rush

Back down to our weekly output of 2 weeks ago - however pretty much all the other teams around us have had identical drops in output :o
Good going everyone, no matter how bad the work gets it's good to see everyone still doing their best - 50 tiffy winners can't be wrong!
Sorry anyone who's not been mentioned - you know what to do now

woot - 12th highest producer this week and just broke the 9K barrier

you lot must be slacking!!! ;)

for those after better work I took -advmethods off all machines and although some got 600 pointers initially all but one are now back on those horrid almost 400 pointers getting lousy PPD :o

nothing seems to stop these horrid WUs, no matter what kind of work you ask for there seems to be a 95% chance of ending up with total pap :o

taking off -advmethods definately improved the chances of getting a 600 pointer or Amber (not good news if you have any Intel rigs) but sooner or later most rigs have ended back up on the horrid stuff again :(

I'm more than a little tempted to sell off my slowest rig and some spare parts to fund an AGP 1950 PRO, still waiting to see some hard evidence first though

edit: It'd also help if the cards were in stock and were a lot further away from the £200 mark that they are set at currently :o

Ever so slightly busted :p
Well there's no proving it either way, I can account for 6 clients as Conc runs 2 CPU and 1 GPU client and knowing how much he likes to fiddle he's no doubt reinstalled windows at some point over the last 7 days - it's the other 2 clients I'm concerned about :p

1 . LordShadow - 5,595 with 2 active clients
2 . Unforgiven - 5,250 with 3 active clients
3 . StevenG[OCUK] - 5,159 with 3 active clients

the judge's decision is final ;) :D

Ohh the pain... almost 4 days for each 396/392 pointer. Every client has one, with or without -advmethods.

My P3 which downloaded its 381 point wu on September the 16th has only 14 hours to go!
GO GO GO!!!! :D

I managed almost 1300PPD on average over the last 7 days, 700PPD being due to my GPU, a further 270PPD from the stream of 600 pointers on the other half of my [email protected] - that leaves just over 300PPD from 3 Socket-A systems on 24/7 and a couple of other part-timers :o
If it wasn't for most of the other machines actually having a valid reason to be on I would be tempted to turn them o**, though these horrid WUs are just as important to the science as any other so I guess I'll just carry on regardless :p

i was getting my gpu up and running :) thanks! now back down to 2
Yup you pointed that out in the single machine thread also - I wouldn't worry about seeing 3 active clients but I think that's got to be the allowable maximum to qualify for the time-being
If people start going crazy with quad-core/dual GPU I'm not sure what use that would be for the news post anyway - most likely just alienate those with more typical setups :o

Oh, and Rich, I was talking about resigning F@h, not the beta stuff.
That's not good :(
Though I can see why you would what with the GPU and, to a lesser extent, the SMP clients effectively de-valuing the traditional CPU effort.

Perhaps Stanford should have stuck with their initial scoring for the GPU client, it's only really the combination of Core2Duo and extremely nice 364 pointers which made the 440PPD GPU benchmark look like a slap in the face :o With the current work I'm sure the offer of 440PPD (or more like 500PPD with some overclocking) would have looked quite good.

However from Stanford's point of view the GPU is doing work in 1/20th to 1/40th of the time and the SMP clients can complete work in 1/2 or 1/4 of the time which makes a huge difference to the science when the creation of new WUs depends on the results of the previous generation.

I guess only time will tell if Stanford's points policy with the new clients does more harm than good in terms of keeping enough of the right kind of clients, they've lost me as a CPU client beta tester for now but since there seems to be no CPU client beta work out there for testing I don't suppose that matters much.

edit: Anything on the BURP front at the moment? - That's a project I actually found pretty interesting, probably due to actually being able to see a finished result :D

edit2: Mr B I noticed earlier in the week you had 3 consecutive days of production in the range of 1600-1700 points - I take it this was just a build up of horrid ~390 pointers and not related to loverly SMP client production then? :(

Concorde regains his number 1 spot above the slackers. Shameful tbh, because the GPU hasn't been folding for 40-48 hours this week :D

so nerrrrrr :p

We all know you have a mighty machine, how hard is it to manage one week with a maximum of 3 active clients being displayed? :D

Joe42 said:
Didn't you get an x1950 pro? How does it fold, is it almost as fast as the xts and xtxs?
no not yet - if I do it would have to be an AGP version and they are still on pre-order, plus the price is a bit silly at the moment but I'm sure that will come down once the initial rush is over

Since GPU folding performance is mainly down to how many pixel shaders the card has the 1950 Pro with 36 shaders shouldn't be too far behind the XT/XTX's with their 48 shaders. Of course GPU clock speed also has quite an effect so they may lose a bit there too - hopefully there'll be enough power left to make it pretty good crunchy value for money :)

Overclock! Overclock for medical science! :D

I too reckon that the 36-pipe model should do fairly well especially considering its reduced price when compared to its 48-shader big brothers.
Well I have heard results for the AGP X1650 Pro which has only 12 pixel shaders and takes about 36 hours per WU - that's not bad seeing as the X1900XT has 4 times as many shaders and is only 3 times as fast.

KE1HA's got his hands on a new card too ;) :D
