The Radeon RX 5700 XT Owners Thread.

I am running two displays - one being 144hz. Still, as you say, 84c idle is mad.

*** A Competitor's *** support have been absolutely great. NOT. After showing them the screenshot they advised "your gpu core frequency is maxed out at 800mhz, it is likely you have a mining virus on your computer".

Christ alive.

Erm? something is wrong with that, what happens when you put some load on it?

Under load is generally OK - particularly hot at the moment, but then again my room is abou 25c! I get around 75-80c at the moment in modern warfare etc.

Ok so that is odd.... i wonder if its just not reading correctly when idle? can you very carefully.... put a finger on the heat sync when its idle, is it burning hot, not just hot like a cup of tea that's been sat for a few minutes, but really hot?

I wonder if its just a faulty sensor then, if the underlod temps are normal.

Edit, humbug had the same idea, but i hadn't refreshed my screen. Would still need an rma, as the faulty sensor will impact fan curve.

@Kaapstad sticking with this board and case for now... so here is the evedence.

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Radeon RX 5700 XT.

Yep so - touched the heatsink. Red hot. too hot to touch at idle.

BIZARELLY- yesterday, the fan was at 3 RPM (so I guess actually turned off, although I didn't physically check), and the idle temps were 60c. Now they're at 80c idle with 400rpm.

Erm? something is wrong with that, what happens when you put some load on it?

I Had that & posted some time ago back when I got my 144hz monitor in wintertime, was going to 60c idle & making the silent 0 DB fans ramp up & down
playing a game underload was the mid-80s, ever since been playing at 60hz

You'll need to raise an rma I think (or test in a 2nd machine). It's very strange that your idle temps and load temps are the same, doesn't suggest that the cooler is broken.

Why is it using 38W at idle? Should be <10W.

Use GPU-Z and see what that says, clocks, voltage and power consumption.

If your heatsink is really hot then it suggests contact is okay. The question then is whether it's simply using lots of power at idle for no reason and for some reason the fans aren't kicking in.

Even 38W I reckon should be manageable with a low rpm fan.

I have one 144hz screen and a second display at 60hz - Apparently 144hz causes issue with idle frequencies etc and so does a second display. So I think a combination of the two may be causing that?

EDIT: Well. Just disabled the second display and lowered the first to 60hz. Still 30-40w usage and memory clock stuck at 1750.

Weird - it happens to me constantly.

It also happens to me regularly. Even if I experience no issues with games crashing or windows crashing. When I restart, it resets to default or loads a bunch of settings which I haven't even set/saved at any point. Bizarre. Crap.
