@Panos
Before I pull the trigger, how are you finding your Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64 compared to your 1080ti?
Reliable? Run cool enough? Much difference in fps? Do you use yours on a freesync monitor? If the frames are lowish (40/50) does the freesync smooth out the judder also?
Matt
Less FPS of course but I have Freesync monitor so it doesn't bother me. However all games I have atm it runs at 90fps+ at 2560x1440. But many times I forget Freesync off, when switching between games, because those using the Clausewitz engine have some flickering with the 2730Z. (EUIV, CK2). Yet doesn't bother me as the 1080Ti which was pushing beyond the 120hz (couldn't run the 2730Z at 144hz with the 1080 nor 1080Ti as I was experiencing issues) producing tearing all over half way the screen and a fast slideshow when moving and looking closely at your surrounding. (with freesync that doesn't exist).
Somehow graphics in games feel better even on same max out settings. By default colours are richer due to AMD having by default tweaked settings. However I found out in WOT & TESO that the bushes and trees have more foliage, while mirroring items have better quality. Same applies to big thick smokes. And I can visually compare both with my laptop which is having a GTX1060.(same settings)
As for cool, here is the peculiar thing. The GTX1080Ti was always hot (high 50s), even with custom fan curve in the middle of the winter in cool room. Even browsing on windows, the card was warm on touch.
The Nitro+ can run the Graphic Test 1 benchmark on Time Spy at 0% fan speed at Turbo mode (1600-1630 overclock), if you have good air flow. Is bonkers. Even overclocked to 1742 you will hear the card running at high fan speed half way the benchmark. And this in warm room now in summer!!!!!!
When watching videos, browsing etc, the Nitro is surprisingly cold in touch.
Otherwise in Turbo mode at normal gaming, I only hear the card in FC5 but is summer and everything is warm atm. Playing WoWs, WOT, TESO for hours is quiet card.
Also mine suffers from coil whine in games, but already first two weeks is dropped by half. When I play games cannot hear it at all though as either I will have headphones or focusing on the game sound, while 90% of the time I have music streaming. I will look at it when the waterblock arrives. I cured the 1080Ti by loosening it's screws, but the Xtreme had serious issue with the coil whine.
Power consumption. On Turbo mode the card never goes over 278W, usually when gaming is around mid 250s Watt. (Max out overclock etc I have seen 354W)
1080Ti Xtreme 300-330W was the norm when gaming.
Also another peculiarity. In EUIV and CK2, the Nitro is burning 75W (some times spikes at 110W in EUIV only) at 120hz vsync. The games aren't graphic heavy.
The 1080Ti Xtreme was pushing a boost clock to 2000, burning 320W for no reason at same fps. If I had vsync off was running ahead at 200s.
Low refresh rate. On the bedroom TV which I am using an 55NU8000 (Freesync 4K tv), I have yet to see a game going bellow the 48hz mark which is the low end of working band of Freesync. And the games I play on the 4k some times are Fallout 4 and FC5. At 2560x1440 if you see a game bellow 90s that should be TWW2 which its crap engine.
I had also (2016) a GTX1080 @ 2190 overclock to share you my experience. The Nitro feels much better card at 2560x1440.
