The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Should I buy the Red Devil 64 or should I pay a bit more for Nitro+ ? I like Sapphires's cooling system and how silent it is.

The Red Devil has a silent bios which runs everything at a nice and quiet 2000 rpm. The Sapphire is meant to be a better card, but the Red Devil is definitely a great buy at the current 450 price.

Need some more coil whine advice, sorry!

My other half can't stand the buzzing from the card when I'm playing Strange Brigade - her PC is in the same room and it's audible over four case fans, two radiator fans, the Red Devil's own fans and the game sounds from my speakers - so I'm probably going to have to send it back.

Are there any brands that are less susceptible to coil whine, or are the 56s less likely to exhibit it? I want to stick with AMD this time rather than get a 1080.

Which monitor you have? I was looking for 4k but decided 3440x1440 is the way to go for gaming, as I can use the TV for 4K.
Also not going to buy the new LG since pricing seems stupid at over £1000.

The AcerXR341CK, I got it on the MM as it's owner moved up to the 38" LG Monitor.

https://www.ultrawide-monitor.de/acer-predator-xr341ck/

I lucked out finding one on the MM when I did as I'd just gone through 2 brand new Freesync monitors I'd had to return for various reasons, I wasn't willing to spend between 5 and 8 hundred on a new monitor if it wasn't exactly what I wanted with no issues. I'd just returned a £680 ultrawide and that was when I saw this on the MM for a lot less so I grabbed it. If you can find one of these I'd definitely say yay, But Acer may have a replacement out with a higher refresh rate as this is a 75hz model, not that that bothers me, It runs great, especially when paired with Vega.

This is the monitor I had just returned, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/acer...n-superwide-curved-led-monitor-mo-092-ac.html It looks decent enough but the one I had was being recognised as a 60hz panel instead of a 144hz one, I'd heard horror stories about Acer support so I sent it back inside the 2 week window instead of playing around with it & chancing having to deal with Acers customer support (at that time OCUK had a disclaimer on the store pages of many Acer models saying that any warranty issues would have to be taken up with Acer directly), That scared me off at that time. I think things have changed now and OCUK do deal with it but that would be something you'd need to verify with OCUK before buying if you're considering an Acer product.

I just noticed yours was an RM X, not an RM, I'd still check it with a different PSU though If I was you, The Corsair HX PSU I recently got made my Vega card whine really bad even though it was completely silent with other PSU's.

From what I remember the Corsair RM PSU's weren't that good, I originally planned on moving to a modular RM from my non modular TX but the low quality capacitators and coil whine complaints seen around the web stopped me. If yours is one of the RM models that replaced the TX models I'd try a different PSU first, The Corsair RM PSU's with the name coloured mustard yellow on the case had low quality transistors and often caused coil whine, It was a known problem at the time which was why they moved from the RM's to the RMi and RMX's with white coloured naming on the case and better quality Japanese transistors. I recently bought a Corsair HX 850 PSU to run Vega and it made my card whine really bad, With my 5 year old bronze rated Corsair TX 850 it was silent but not with the platinum rated newer model so I sent the Platinum rated HX back and went with a different brand PSU, none of the cards I've had since then have had coil whine.

I assume she is using turbo mode trying to push 280W.

Coil whine is a combination of things and gets cured by time. The first thing you should to is to untighen the screws to the right of the gpu are you see it upside down. Just losen a bit and tight again but not with force. Just very mild like you squeeizing an eg. dount touch the gpu screws, nor any screws with stickers on them

second is to run the card as lower power. On page 284/285 i have posted some settings. Set them and see how it goes. Coil whine will be reduced while performance will go up. If still issue lower the powerlimit horizontal slider to 10% or 0%

let us know how it goes

What a beauty.. Roll of h plz Kaap.

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Vega 64.

I just noticed yours was an RM X, not an RM, I'd still check it with a different PSU though If I was you, The Corsair HX PSU I recently got made my Vega card whine really bad even though it was completely silent with other PSU's.

It's the 2018 revision of the RM850x, I bought it at short notice when my existing PSU proved not to be up to the job of running the Vega on anything other than power save mode (which also involved coil whine). It looked OK based on the Anandtech and Guru3D reviews.

Anyway, I've also tested the Vega with a Cooler Master Real Power Pro 850W and the noise is the same with that PSU. The Cooler Master PSU is currently powering GTX970 SLI in my other half's PC, no coil whine there.

I haven't tried either of the GTX970s with the new RM850x yet, I can do that if you think it'll be of any use?

Sorry, I should have specified - the Vega 64 is in my PC, not hers. Her chair in our PC room is about six feet away from my PC case. I currently have the Red Devil using the silent BIOS. The noise isn't quite so loud if I also switch to power save mode in the drivers, but it's definitely still audible.

I haven't touched the card with a screwdriver as I want to still have the option to send it back - I love the performance but not at the expense of driving my other half up the wall!

Am I right to assume that none of the Vega brands are likely to be better than another in this respect?

Probably no point from what you've said, In the past people on this forum have said that they've removed coil whine by leaving the computer running either Heaven or Valley over night, I can't remember which one it was they used and to me it sounds unlikely but it can't hurt to give it a try. After experiencing loud coil whine with the HX I doubt I'll bother with a Corsair PSU again, I've currently got 2 spare psu's here a TX and a G2 both tested silent with the Vega that whined with the HX. I'm not sure what Cooler Master PSU's are like, any good?
