I thought ASIC % meant the amount of leakage a GPU could handle, and sometimes the lower ones would overclock better as you could pump them with volts to get a better clock speed (this was a while ago, watercooling people generally looked for it as we could plop a block on and go mental with it)

Just finished my case swap and awaiting the arrival of my Sapphire Pulse XTX so I can finally get the MBA card out and play some games without overheating!

Hello everyone!

I am a new member here but thought I would post my setup with my Nitro+ :) I actually received it a couple weeks ago from Overclockers but have just been lurking on the forums until today. Thought I would post a few pics of my setup. :)

I mostly use the computer for VR (Beat Saber, Synthriders, Boneworks, Bonelab some VRChat and a few others) as well as FFXIV (upgraded the GPU from an Asus Strix 1070) but with the Nitro+ 7900 XTX I have been doing some more demanding flatscreen gaming and playing Cyberpunk now that I can do RT and I have been loving it!

Only thing I have found strange is the benchmarking it in 3D Mark. I have never owned an AMD GPU before and finding it difficult to get something stable in Adrenaline.

Had an issue with my 5900X not single core boosting, it was just doing an all core low clock at about 4.3, I've sorted it now but I think it was holding back the Nitro.

A cards power limit's are set by it's bios. The 7900XTX nitro+ has the highest limit. So the card to buy.
Ohh yeah I know. My post is regarding MPT. On the 6900XT people used it to increase power limit of the cards since they were power limited. However the 7900XTX Nitro is already using over 500w when overclocked, and supposedly 3 8-pin + PCIE slot can handle max 525w. So the card is technically running on the edge without MPT.

There's a lot of BS about 8 pin power specs. The R9 295X2 ran on just 2x 8 pins and is a 500w GPU. This 150w number is only to cover poor low grade cables. 250w+ isn't an issue for a quality gauge cable.
MPT hacks the windows reg to allow the extra power, not a thing on 7000 series by the looks of it.

What you see quoted in reviews and manufacturer presentations is PCI-SIG specification.

Hardware specs differs, see relevant section OP here.

So in the case of MBA 2x8pin, you can pull 2x288W+75W(PCI-SIG) from slot, most decent PSU be 2x396W+75W(PCI-SIG) from slot, now 3x8pin :D ...

Next look at this data from my Nitro ...

qYBJ6LA.jpg pjbtUpd.jpg

See the 5% PL headroom on OC VBIOS +15% from Wattman, that run was on GFXCLKmin: 2648MHz GFXCLKmax: 2848MHz MEMCLK: 2748MHz VGFX: 1095mV ...

Tell me we are not powerlimited ...

A person could say "Hey your VGFX is high, so taking up powerlimit ..."

See this set of data on GFXCLKmin: 2748MHz GFXCLKmax: 2948MHz MEMCLK: 2748MHz VGFX: 1050mV

8h0FT8V.jpg W8YXXxf.jpg

Now we put aside hardware power spec for 8pin is no issue. What about GPU VRM/PCB? The VRM quality and PCB layers used are very high quality, even on MBA and not the limiting factor.

For the very first time, AMD GPU is locked from power on.

We have no access to manipulate via ACPI, VBIOS, SW in OS.

Even EVC doesn't currently support RX 7900 series, as the VRM controller used by it, Elmor has no datasheets/registers information.

We have the limits a manufacturer places in VBIOS. And what the driver allows us, which again answer to SMU of GPU, which again we have no access, as far as we know currently.

The nice thing about being able to tinker on a card is not just about increases :) ...

My RX 6800 XT Pulse on STD VBIOS, I ran for over a year with reduced SOC voltage (+75mV), reduced VRAM voltage (-100mV), stock GPU clocks/voltage and increased VRAM clocks.

By dropping SOC and VRAM voltage, the "headroom" created by reduction, meant the powerlimit was used more towards aiding GPU clocks.

As I also had a waterblock on RX 6800 XT, the temps were sweet, so nice sustained boosts ...

To get on The Owners List all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Radeon RX 7900 XT(X).

So apparently for real gaming it appears that some games require 1100mV for my card to be stable 7900 XTX MBA.
Why are we still looking this up? ASIC value has no impact on performance, ability to OC or undervolt. It's like using the last four letters of your name to determine how well you play football.
ASIC quality has been around for a long time and I can't remember a single time when someone reported a better OC with a better ASIC. It's an urban legend that just won't die, I don't know why.
