Yes, the Nitro is a better looking card and significantly quieter than the Merc which is loud even at 35% fan speed. Out of the cards listed this would be my order for purchasing:
Merc wins vs Red Devil due to the slightly higher power limit. However, aside from that i think the Red Devil is probably a better looking and quieter card.
- Nitro
- Merc
- Red Devil
- Hellhound
Cheers, aesthetics don't matter as it's a solid side panel (Phanteks P600S so should be fine for size of the card as well). It's a flip between the Merc and the Nitro - the Merc is the cheapest out of the top three there (£70 less than the Nitro) - Red Devil is in the middle price-wise and would be a case of might as well go for the Nitro.
I believe the Nitro, besides the aesthetics, is also the only one with overengineered cooling. So the question of the prices difference really should be the question for amount of noise it makes (fan wise) and how much heat both you and the GPU can tolerate when the environmental temperatures creep up during the summer. If it's fine (you use Air Con for example), then I don't see why you need to go for the Red Devil or Nitro, the basic default at that point will be fine if the sound level is OK for you.
But if the nosie and temps can be a concern, then the Red Devil and Nitro are your better bets are not sitting next to a heater when in use during the summer. (Thinking about it now, that's probably what helped contribute to my older rig dying, as it happened right after the 40C heat wave in London last year). Anyway, all good cards in any case.
100% correct.seems like unstable memory that doesn't show any signs of it being unstable (artifacting, monitor striping) leads to the core becoming unstable and requiring more voltage to keep it stable at the given core clocks
i've found that my memory was unstable at 2760mhz, so dropping it to 2730mhz allowed me to stabilize the core at 30mV less (1090mV -> 1060mV) with a max frequency of 3000mhz
i realized vram was unstable only in tarkov yesterday, when i'd get flashes for a single frame every now and then, and the only game that required 1090mv to be stable on the core was cyberpunk 2077 - having dropped the mem freq., everything's a-ok at 1060mv now
this is on a 7900 xtx nitro+, mind you, so YMMV
current settings are:
min freq: 500mhz
max freq: 3000mhz
core volts: 1060mv
vram: 2730 @ fast timings
power limit: -5% (not a fan of the card pulling 400+ watts )
thanks! i was actually wondering whether the chip i got is any good100% correct.
Very nice sample you have there if you can run games with only 1060mv.
Cheers! I was very close to going for the Nitro+ however your comments have helped me decide on the Merc - I've managed to get the Merc for about £100 less than the Nitro+ (as long as the cashback goes through okay). I can use that £100 to pick up some games that I have been afterI'd concur, but as don't like Hellhound be off my list.
If took best prices the Merc be above Nitro+ for me.
Visually Red Devil be at top for me, wasn't that much behind Merc/Nitro+ when comparing manual tuned profiles and better perf/watt due to lower limit.
Merc XTX has had best VRAM temp for me. Matched 2x Nitro+ XTX I've had on GPU temps.
To me fan PWM 30% is quiet on Merc, but none of the cards I tuned fan profile for quietness as WC'ing a card as soon as get block.
I'm pretty sure I can't hear the high pitched squeal of coil whine anymore listened to some YT vids where they said its bad and thought nope, can't hear it maybe a faint bit of hissing here and there but thats it.Or I’m deaf as a post. I do have a lot of fans in my case.

I've got 3x140mm intakes and 1x140mm & 3x120mm (Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360) exhaust so hopefully temperatures will be okay.
I'm surprised (well, kind of) that at this price point games aren't included with any of these cards.
Like the cablemod, was it from overlockers? I could do with one for my Merc
This is the Cablemod Pro line, I then bought an additional 8 pin PCIE in same colour, then bought cable combs to make it bridged.Like the cablemod, was it from overlockers? I could do with one for my Merc
Enjoy, I don’t think anyone cares mate.Sorry but I’ve decided to swap my xtx for a 4090. There’s a massive price difference and I liked the xtx but….
Thats ok. Some people just only like red and hate green.Enjoy, I don’t think anyone cares mate.
I care but was more interested in the Coil Whine you reported on the xtx and what PSU you were running with it. As it is so often the case that tbere is nothing wrong with the card itself. It might help others in this thread.Thats ok. Some people just only like red and hate green.
Some people hate blue too. But you know what I say to those people? Relax, they’re just colours.Thats ok. Some people just only like red and hate green.
My XTX has no coil whine. I did have a 3080ti with bad coil whine. I only noticed it when I watercooled it but that was a few years ago.I care but was more interested in the Coil Whine you reported on the xtx and what PSU you were running with it.
